It doesnt mean that scripts/ideas etc cant be worked on..... I would imagine that it will take at least two years before a sequel will be released and it wont be confirmed until FOX assesses how Promethues performs in June.

Do we really need a third thread on Prometheus 2? Anyway, here is a bit of info about it. http://io9.com/prometheus-2/ From the site, about 1/4 of the way down: Blade Runner Director Ridley Scott address the Harrison Ford rumors, saying that he's not even sure yet whether Rick Deckard will even be in the movie — but if he is, then Scott says that "nothing would please me more" than a reunion with Ford. He also gives this update on the current state of development: We're still in discussions about whether it should be a prequel or sequel. It's an interesting conversation. I'm meeting with writers and I've also gone back to [original Blade Runner screenwriter] Hampton Fancher and he still speaks the speak. He's right there. I spoke with him this week. But we don't even have a script yet. Finally, he says that he is doing this in part because he enjoyed the experience of making Prometheus so much. Speaking of which... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prometheus 2 Ridley Scott revealed this: "I'm also thinking about what the hell I might do for a Prometheus 2." Clearly, when Scott goes back to science fiction after thirty years, he does not mess around.

Exactly Seashells! Regardless of Ridley's enthusiasm for a sequel, it's all gonna' come down to the final box-office sales. This movie has got to appeal to the greater Sci-Fi fanbase in general and not just to us hard core Alien-fanatics. Only time will tell.

I'd rather see a Prometheus sequel than a Blade Runner one! Although a sequel to Prometheus won't probably be out till 2015 I'd have thought, as I doubt Ridley will want it clashing with the second Avatar movie. . .

Yeah I've read that somewhere to, and the big chair type thing we saw in Alien was a kinda interface to control the ship. That'd be similar to the Wraith species in Stargate Atlantis, who share their DNA with the actual spaceships they use. It would be an interesting way of showing how the SJ's used their own technology though. . .

Have you also noticed how it crashes sideways, and must roll over once to stop in the position we see it in the 'overhead' shot? That shot also shows the track made in the earth as it rolls... very neat idea - but then this IS a Ridley Scott film - so I am sure we can expect more things we have never seen before! :-)

XenophobePrometheus ForumTruth about the Ampule room?
Could be that. . . The room where the SJ's created or experimented with our DNA, supposed to other sites used for other species. Perhaps a Xenomorph related ampule room somewhere. . . ;)
Reply
dbPrometheus ForumTruth about the Ampule room?
That would be a cool reveal. But... 1. Is the ampule room on the derelict? 2. Is the ampule room in a temple on Earth? 3. Is the ampule room in a temple on another planet? (Which one?)

MembranePrometheus ForumTruth about the Ampule room?
Neat idea. Like there could be a 'human' room, a 'xenomorph' room and countless other life-form rooms where the SJ/Engineers (or whatever is the 'gods') have used to populate multiple planets in multiple solar systems throughout the galaxy.

This is a notion I seem to recall being mooted somewhere else, as I remember thinking that it would have been neat to see a couple of different types of giant 'alien' heads too. However, if there were others, I suspect the 'human'-like version would have been kept a secret and out of the promotional material, to keep it a plot-point surprise. So I reckon that there's only ONE 'giant head' in the movie, and it happens to look like us (or something very like us), for reasons yet unknown. However, for all we know at this point, those 'ampules' laid out nearby could themselves each hold a DIFFERENT 'DNA -type' within, rather than being just one type of the same 'bio-former'... By the way, if you're reading this Ripley Clone 8, perhaps you can check out my request at the end of your 'GIF' topic at some point. Thanks.

I think the Ampule Room is on the planet that we see the small spacecraft going down to (with the huge mountain scene in the trailer). . . Although again, the Derelict was large enough to house a room this big. So who knows!

Google "Egyptian canopic jar" and some of the articles give me the chills. During mummification, the royal bloodlines of Egyptian throne would have their internal organs, or viscera removed and preserved in these jars. One jar type would house the lung, the other kidney, the other stomach, so on. The only organ they would leave behind is the heart because the heart is the seat of the soul. One of the theories for viscera in the jars is that they "believe" that they are going to need these organs when they are resurrected. If the Space Jockey is a dying race, and those little face huggers carry their genetic codes, then the eggs, and the jars in the Ampule Room, are no different in function from the Egyptian canopic jars. Maybe Earthlings are cattle to these "Gods", a host for them to recreate themselves.

I love the concept that humans are merely "hosts [for Gods] to recreate themselves." It lends itself to some crazy shit. Ultimately, with how epic this film aims to be, I expect a good amount of time on the earth discovery. Further, I expect it to be more ambitious in its shock value. More than chest-bursting and "haunted house" horrors; I think it's going to point towards our own human mythologies and creation stories to deliver some form of conceptual horror and shock. The idea that we our existence serves some sort of disturbing purpose or subservient role sounds great.

Didn't Ridley recently say Prometheus will be epic? Alien wasn't meant to be but became epic. Prometheus, in contrast, is meant to be epic. So my guess is that this quote refers to the same thought... Prometheus is about BIG issues that affect everything. Something like that.

Yeah Alien was definitly concieved as a claustrophobic horror set in space. Prometheus seems to be made out more like a sci-fi epic, but also with that distinct horror that we see in the original Alien movie. Those two combined, make me so excited I can barely restrain myself. . .

...you, me and nearly everyone I speak to about this film. My "other half" is already fed up with me going on about it every time I speak to her! :-) I don't think she realises that ALIEN is (in my humble opinion) the "Holy Grail of Sci-Fi Horror Movies" and if Ridley is messing with "his baby" then it's most certainly "going to be all about everything". When I first heard about an ALIEN prequel project, I thought "Oh God. No. Leave It Alone." But the more I see and hear about this, and from Ridley's quotes so far in interviews and trailers, then I am not so angry... I am as happy as the boy who sneaked the VHS copy of ALIEN into his friends' house while his parents were away to watch it. Heaven.

I know what you mean @Paul Littlefield.... I was blissfully unaware of this Little movie until Halloween of this past year. I work in special ed. and we were unloading the buses that morning when a random acquaintance stopped me and says, "You know about the 'Alien' prequel, right?" Never mind that I'd never spoken to this person about 'Alien' or anything....ever. I just stared at him. I thought it was a joke. Then he goes, "and, oh, it's directed by Ridley Scott too." The ten year old boy in me thought his head was going to explode.......THAT NEWS......Ridley Scott returning to the world of 'Alien'.....I'd been waiting to hear that for at least seventeen years.....I still almost feel as though it's too good to be true.......

I'm just a blithering, babbling obssessive now....that can't let it go....and I think my family might just about be ready to kill me over it........ As to the "All About Everything School"......I'm an alumnus myself......it's simple, I think.......Ridley going after the biggest of all questions.....the unkowable answers that lie beyond that question.......and 'Prometheus' will likely scratch at the surface of it all......As Ridley said, both faith AND science come off baffled on this journey......

Without anything other than the ship in the second picture, there's nothing to reference to determine the scale, so I'm afraid one wouldn't "know for sure".

True, in the bottom picture the ship does "seem" bigger than in the top one. . . Probably just the eyes tricking us all!

GhorgulPrometheus ForumThe Same Scene or Not?
It's not the same. Here's what happens: They cause some kind of alarm in ancient temple with that head - Space Jockeys arive using their ships wormhole capability. The ships jump to orbit causes the sandstorm/shockwave which throws Shaw backwards in the trailer. The 1st picture showed is when their ship is landed. Then, Sh*t happens, Space Jockeys are leaving, and starting their ships wormhole (the ship spins at high speed along its center axis). Humans crash something into their ship while it's spinning, causing it to fall down in flames, roll around and stop to position shown in 2nd picture. Also, flashes in end with credits are hiding hidden picture.

I think the perspective of the two pictures are reversed !!! If you could make Shaw out in the 2nd pic, she would be standing at the top of the frame looking up at you through the arms of the ship and could therefor see the three ports from her angle

@itchyz Dude, you r in the wrong forum. My favorite films have woman replacing male as the traditional savior. ALIENS & SILENCE OF THE LAMBS are 2 very popular examples. There is a reason why the screenwriter & director of ALIEN wanted Sigourney Weaver to survive in the end of the movie. If woman is the carrier of the future of our species, then she has to survive - untainted!

Wow @itchyz...."men panic and woman takes over and gets the job done".....I don't recall many of those stories being out there....usually...the stereotype has women panicking and the muscle bound meat head saving the day......real creative and original, that is...yeah, right...... .....And I don't know about many of you, but I can't seem to remember the men of the Nostromo flipping out, throwing there hands up in the air hysterically and running about screaming in a panicked state.....I recall Ripley being unique in her role as hero, forgive me, heroine in that kind of story. And since when is a strong woman standing up and doing something sound, intelligent and independent an Agenda? If a strong female survivor in storytelling really scares you that much at a fundamental level, socially and subconsciously, then maybe you should 1) move to a forum that isn't full of people in love with a story you clearly have chauvanistic issues with. 2) time travel to the stone age....they may like you there. 3) grow up.......a strong female shouldn't automatically threaten you're masculinity...or are you that insecure that you can't handle the idea?

BishyPrometheus ForumPossible Creature Design from Giger's Necronomicon?
The creature design has to exhibit some sort of sexual-biotech content. Part of the brilliance of Alien is that it harkens to a fear of inter-species rape. The question remains, "how will this be portrayed by Space jockey race?"
