Interesting idea, except that there is a nasty big gaping hole on the chest of the so-called Engineer/SJ as depicted in the first ALIEN movie. If the Engineer is the final form, what's with the "hole?"
My guess is that the Xeno is a genetic nightmare. Maybe it's part of the wrong cycle of life. That's why in the trailer someone mutters "It's so wrong!" There's gonna be some perverse stuff going on in the movie. The Egr, SJ, Xeno and humans - one big happy family ?
ReplyBellaisanAlienPrometheus ForumEngineer Life CycleJan 11, 2012
True but perhaps the old make way for the new? It would be very perverse to us that for a new form of life to exhist, the parent would need to be the host. Especially a form of life advanced enough to form civilisations and spaceships.
'Wrong life cycle' has got me thinking that the mutant human that may or may not be changing into an Engineer could be seen as a threat by the infant Engineer as it is part human / part engineer??
ReplyEGR101Prometheus ForumEngineer Life CycleJan 11, 2012
Dude, you are making it too complicated. This forum is just for us to speculate freely. We don't know how the movie turns out. What I meant was: whatever the life cycle is, the old familiar Xeno is the "wrong" part of the cycle. Maybe it is the violent/aggressive segment of the gene that gets turned on accidentally.

i was thinking on alien res and i though god, if you compare the space jockey to the hybrid, the have alot of simalarities. god i hope thats not the sctick lol
ReplyBellaisanAlienPrometheus ForumEngineer Life CycleJan 11, 2012
This is speculation Engr101, my speculation is that the xeno and Engineer is one in the same.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumEngineer Life CycleJan 11, 2012
Interesting theory bella, but it's hard for me to make the jump that the Xeno and the Jockey are the same species (but just different points in it's life cycle). I definately see the Jockey as being a higher organism, so it doesn't seem efficient to kill off a Jockey and replace it with a Xeno. Unless it's some strange bio recycling that happens when a Jockey is going to die. End of life, go become a host.
I'm also thinking that the Engineers might not be the Jockeys. Up until last night I assumed the Engineer was the big blue alien and the Jockey was an Engineer wearing the Jockey suit seen in the ampule room pictures. After seeing the new images, I think that the Engineers and Jockeys are a seperate species. The new head pictures seem to be the actual SJ head, and it's this creature that wears the suit and helmet.
I think the Jockeys are possibly slaves to the engineer. Maybe the ampules contain Jockey DNA so the Engineers can find some compatible organism to transform into Jockeys and rebuild a slave labor force? Instead humans start mucking around with the ampules unsupervised and accidentally create a proto xeno?

Jeff I like your Pilot = Slave, Engineer = DNA God theory. Since the hint popped up that the engineer may not be crew members I thought about that same concept. The figurative Prometheus in this film may be a Jockey that assist the humans at a key point, and was sent by the Engineer on a one way trip to earth to deliver our punishment.
I think the official trailer during the Super Bowl or Valentines Day will create questions to keep us guessing until June 8th.
Happy Hunting!

yeah it was awesomely realistic
ReplyvisualizerPrometheus ForumAlien felt 'real' - Prometheus feels 'surreal'Jan 11, 2012
I think the scares will come from the story and disturbing realizations about the creation of man. The realism of "Alien" won´t be the focus of Prometheus IMO. Strong visuals and great acting will probably be there, but this is layed out as a philosophic "big picture" movie, not at claustrophobic horror movie.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumAlien felt 'real' - Prometheus feels 'surreal'Jan 11, 2012
If you try to set up the same atmosphere you will lose always against Alien ..and people and critics will compare immediately ... they want to avoid that .
To be honest from the trailer Prometheus dont look as a philosophic "big picture" but an horror/action movie of great breath and intriguing premises ..i will not go more deep than that .
ReplydeadcellPrometheus ForumAlien felt 'real' - Prometheus feels 'surreal'Jan 11, 2012
from what i get of the plot most of it will be in space, so you can get that claustrophobic feeling to an extent, but you cant compare it to alien. plus you have to make this its own indiviual film, like aliens, for it to hold water. i just hope they dont show the beast as much. as i said in previous posts, makes him all the more terrifing the less i see it

A revelation that we were created for some nefarious purpose by coldly malevolent "Gods" from outer space, isn't really all that deep, but it could be effectively, very dark; particularly, if the protagonists believe that their makers were necessarily enlightened.

You know I still can't play the Marine roles in the video games because they give me that same feeling.
The Descent Is another movie very effective with making you feel 'in' the movie.

I have long thought that the Annunaki could be part of the story but never thought to look up the writing. Very nice find.

Also see the History Channel Ancient Aliens. Definively match that Annunaki idea even if its absurd.

The concept of Annunaki will figure a lot in the movie. They won't call it as such though.
June 8 is the date, people.

yes i think is something not enough discussed yet ..is part of the temple ? another construction ? of just the other horn ?
ReplypjrPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
Great find - I never would have noticed that, but after looking carefully at the trailer I believe it is a large building!
ReplyStarbeastPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
Me and danrald discussed this on a previous post but danrald thought it was the other end of the crashing ship which later self-righted itself into its eventual resting position. All guesswork, admittedly. The trailer was really packed with more questions wasn't it?!
ReplypjrPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
I too started out thinking it was the other side of the ship, but it's very rectangular whereas the ship is very curvy. Yes, the trailer is really packed with food for thought!
ReplydeadcellPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
true, the original script said they found the derelict but behind it was a dome where they found the eggs, not in the bowls of the ship.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
I think the size of the SJ ship is making it difficult to judge this shot.
AVPGalaxy has high res pictures so I'm going to reference those.

If you look at this shot, I think it's pretty clear that this image takes place after the mid air explosion or collision. You can see wreckage all over the ground. I would think that if there was a seperate temple, it should be partially visible in this picture?
I think it's all part of the ship. The ship is so immense that it looks like a seperate structure.

What you describe as a "building" is actually the other "horn" of the SJ ship striking the ground, just before the closer end near Rapace/Shaw does so. The ship turns ~ 180 degrees after the impact/explosion high in the atmosphere, and strikes with the rounded end up. ( horns down ) It then rolls across the ground until it stops with the rounded end on the ground, and the horns, sticking straight up in the air. ( the shot where Rapace is staring at it ) The most amazing thing about the whole sequence, is that the ship ramains intact.
ReplyEGR101Prometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
The derelict ship when sitting upright does reveal something peculiar.
Look at the the right arm of the ship with two protrusions coming out of it, one longer than the other.

ReplyEGR101Prometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
The general consensus in this forum or anywhere else seems to point to the fact that that Giger-like structure crashing down on Noomi & Charlize is part of the derelict ship. I think this may be something else. There are 2 different scenes. Ridley did mention in one of his interviews that "something so small" becoming "something so large" What is it? I can't wait for June to come.
ReplyGehirnPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
It seems BLONDIE and ABGIRL started running from under the ship, which means not only did they have to avoid the final tail part, but also the mighty UBERFIST too.
Kind of silly for ABGIRL to wander off from a safe observational position in the middle of the horseshoe to its ROTATIONAL PATH OF DOOM.
ReplybirdmanPrometheus ForumENGINEERS' TEMPLEJan 11, 2012
I agree that it is also part of the derelict ship. But in the beginning of the trailer, when the bay door opens and vehicles proceed to exit the human ship, the "building" in the distance sort of resembles the derelict laying flat. Not like in Alien or Aliens, but completely flat. Just a thought.
