The man behind Nine Inch Nails composed the music for the U.S. film adaption of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Here, he discusses composing the film's unsettling score, his early days making music in Cleveland and his work with Nine Inch Nails. To put it another way... The Downward Spiral is Inferno, The Fragile is Purgatory and an as yet unreleased album would be Paradise... Dante's Divine Comedy, which I also own.

@ Bio....Thanx!...someone who is fimiliar with even one of the artists i mentioned (very cool).....i got tuns of music....but i will have to really look to find the perfect song....so many...tho i will stick to what i said before....it just works so much better when their is a huge contrast between what u see and hear...not to many directors have caught on yet.....tho i have to say that they could not have chosen better trailer music....so their is acceptions to my little rule!....tho scores are different...they almost have to follow the plot and mood.

The Man you speak of Sparky is the reluctant genius known as (Michael) Trent Reznor. BTW Trent Reznor IS Nine Inch Nails, NIN is in essence a one man band. He did work on GWADT, as well as The Social Network with Atticuss Ross, which was his first score, of which he won an Oscar and Golden Globe for. He also did the score and SFX for id softwares Quake. His songs have been used in/for Se7en, Terminator Salvation, The Crow, Man On Fire, 300, to name but a few. He is probably the most influential artist of our generation, is partly responsible for the Marilyn Manson alter ego. He owns his own record label, the Null Corporation, is married to Mariqueen Maandig (whom along with Atticuss makes up the new band How To Destroy Angels), has a son called Lazarus and plays XBOX Live.

There is Only One Song for me that "reminds me of Prometheus"...This One... It was an April morning when they told us we should go As I turn to you, you smiled at me How could we say no? With all the fun to have, to live the dreams we always had Oh, the songs to sing, when we at last return again Sending off a glancing kiss, to those who claim they know Below the streets that steam and hiss, The devil's in his hole Oh to sail away, To sandy lands and other days Oh to touch the dream, Hides inside and never seen. Into the sun the south the north, at last the birds have flown The shackles of commitment fell, In pieces on the ground Oh to ride the wind, To tread the air above the din Oh to laugh aloud, Dancing as we fought the crowd To seek the man whose pointing hand, The giant step unfolds With guidance from the curving path, That churns up into stone If one bell should ring, in celebration for a king So fast the heart should beat, As proud the head with heavy feet. Days went by when you and I, bathed in eternal summers glow As far away and distant, Our mutual child did grow Oh the sweet refrain, Soothes the soul and calms the pain Oh Albion remains, sleeping now to rise again Wandering & wandering, What place to rest the search The mighty arms of Atlas, Hold the heavens from the earth The mighty arms of Atlas, Hold the heavens from the earth From the earth... I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way I know the way, know the way, know the way, know the way Oh the mighty arms of Atlas, Hold the heavens from the earth. "Achilles Last Stand". Led Zeppelin!

I have no idea what song will remind me of "Prometheus" as I have yet to see it :-P I do, however, have 2 songs that always reminded me of the original Alien. The first one is "Space Oddity" by David Bowie. Musically it suits it perfectly for me and the song conveys such a dreaded sense of loneliness that it fits the feel of the movie. The whole idea of claustrophobia and being stranded out in space. The second song is a more odd choice. "New Horizons" from The Moody Blues. I really cannot put my finger on why but every time I listen to the song, it makes me think of the film. I think it has something to do with the cover of the album it comes from. and this was the original back cover

Ok this one is close enought....Pj Harvey - The piano. It is a dark and disturbing tune with a very interesting video....some sexual and religious undertones.......the lyric "oh god i miss u" is the horror of being all alone and "nobody's listening" reminds me of "In space no one can hear you scream" scenario from alien....it's a tortured and haunting track......that is the best i can come up with so far. But even if u think it does not relate well enough....that video is really something else! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpNxP7FcywY

Glad to see there are NIN fans here! I'm a long time NIN fan and have all their Halos. (The fragile being my favorite as an album). I'm sure the composer of the Prometheus score will do a great job. But I still would love to have heard a collaboration between a traditional composer and Trent + Atticus. At least I'd like to get a HTDA song on the soundtrack (if it fits). For right now, I can't think of a perfect song to match what we've seen so far of Prometheus. But I think several songs from the Fragile or HTDA's EP would fit tone wise.

I think that Marc Strat will do alright, he has alot of training and working with Zimmer and some others hopefully has helped him have his voice for this film. I look to see some tribute to Goldsmith's music but I dunno....we shall see. I have been a NIN fan since they came out and trent ceases to amaze me. His work is unique and he is a doing a great job with Attiticus on their projects. A agree with many that the Fragile Cd and Year Zero would fit pretty well with this story.

NICE man. I've been collecting autographs for sometime now. Heading out to LA for college this year. Majoring in Film Production. Can't wait.

For as cool as it is to get that autograph, I have some issue with people who attend these events and hound people like this. Paparazzi and autograph seekers. Especially the ones that are like "hey NOOMI< the white card right in front of you, the white card". You can even see on her face that she is just "meh" and almost like "alright, get me out of here" Nothing against the original poster. NO disrespect meant at all. I guess it is hard to explain my viewpoint on it without sounding like an asshole but something about it just bugs me. I guess doing all the traveling I have in the past with some actors and minor celebs has lent me different eyes on the scenario.

Those are the same people who are going to get really upset if they don't get the autograph. Afterward it is "what a b+++h", "f++k her she an a++hole", "she slept with dolphins to get where she is", etc

@Biomechanic - Yeah she seems really nice to go out of her way. @Spartacus - Thanks ^_^ @Ripley Clone 8 - Yeah, getting these autographs becomes addictive...LOL When you have time from your film studies you'll have to come out to these events sometime :) @Miser - It'ss typically fine to call out to an actor / actress when they arrive. Some of them want you to be as loud. Otherwise they won't come over to greet you. But I also understand what you mean. Those people you speak of are the Paparazzi and graph dealers. My feelings are mixed with the ethics of paparazzi and graph hounds myself. I'm a fan, FIRST. I like the actor's work enough i'll collect their signatures for fun. It's usually the ones with no manners who shove their cameras and photos photos into the actor's face while trying to get more than one signature strictly for profit that irks me. But at the same time I know there's a market for celebrity autographs and press photos. So it's not always a bad thing as long as you're kind and courteous.

their will be 2 versions....i am almost certain!....but the toned down one will come first and the re release (more hardcore and explicit version) will feature in selected 3d theaters upon the dvd release....well that's my guess?

i agree mekja....the pg13 rating is a big concern for me, you and Ridley...and I am sure just about anyone on this forum....i want explicit violence, sex, horror and very disturbing subject matter.....not to mention some harsh language....but we will hopefully get that once they release the directors cut....hopefully!

My guess is the PG13 release will be shown early to mid afternoon and R release will be shown early to mid evening. Probably 90 minutes for the PG13, 120 minutes + for the R.

half an hour of extra footage?....nah if we lucky....maybe an extra 7 or 8 minutes...those precious extra minutes can make a huge difference tho!

It's fascinating how the studio will ignore the fanbase to please a special interest when it comes to mangling a good movie. We have the power to choose yes or no, so release art as it was meant to be experienced. It's funny to see when they tweak a movie to grab a larger audience and it fails miserably. This is easy money for the studio, so hopefully they'll piss off on this on and let us see Ridleys's true vision. Hopefully!

I seriously doubt there will be two differently rated versions of the same film released at the same time. From a parent's perspective, I would imagine that could open up the liability door for Fox to get a lawsuit. People are just that screwed up... I can imagine some pathetic woman wants monetary compensation for the counselor visits her kid gets, because she gave him permission to see a film that she thought was PG-13, when in fact he saw the R version- and he was "injured" by what he saw... If it's released PG-13, then I fear the R-rated version won't be available until the BD release.

Not_my_intentionPrometheus ForumPG13 vs R, what's it gonna be?
i agree, a pg-13 alien would just not feel right even if there are no xenos. look at how AvP turned out, it broke my suspension of disbelief all the time because of things like the CB with no blood. how is that even possible? if something burst out of your chest there would be blood and guts every where, but they had to cut it so younger kids could see it. but i guess thats ok because that movie was not that good anyways. also how can it be rated pg-13? just from the trailer we can see people mutating and covered with blood and acid to the face, it looks like they would need to cut a lot to make it not R. but it really should be R just for the sake artistic vision. really all movies should get the R approval and then they can re-rate it after its finished because having that freedom to do whatever you want artistically will usually end in a better movie. how good would alien be without its visionary idea of the alien and its evolutionary process, not to mention its obvious sexual symbolism? not very good, let me tell you.
