Game_Over_ManPrometheus ForumPG13 vs R, what's it gonna be?Dec 24, 2011
I think the last time both R and 13 versions of a film were shown simultaneously was for Saturday Night Fever - the ratings being X and A certificate respectively. Tbf the A version of that movie is as good as the original X cut, just minus explicit language and the gang rape scene.
There's no reason why both versions of Prometheus can't be shown simultaneously either. Would really storm the box office I reckon. Ridley has stated he's making 2 cuts, we all know he wants the R, and hopefully this will be the version they first release.

I will chime in with the proverbial, "who cares what rating it gets?" and just hope for a good movie. Alien would most assuredly have been a PG-13 film if released today and it is scary as can be. If it is a good movie, it is good no matter what rating it gets.
ReplyshardyPrometheus ForumPG13 vs R, what's it gonna be?Dec 24, 2011
i wish Scott would push the envelope and some buttons and go for an
extreme R, or better yet, the dreaded "NC-17". not likely he'd go for
the latter, but i can't recall the last time i saw a sci-fi film with that
particular controversial rating
i just hope that if Scott must bend to the studio heads and have
a PG-13 rating, i hope that he releases an R rated version as well
i think it's WE who need to determine what is acceptable
in this regard and NOT the moronic "film ratings board"
time will tell.....
ReplyNot_my_intentionPrometheus ForumPG13 vs R, what's it gonna be?Dec 24, 2011
miser, alien would not be pg-13 if it came out today exactly the same. there is to much blood to begin with and on top of that they say "fuck" way to much, you can only say fuck in a pg-13 movie twice, and that's if the rest of the movie wasn't violent at all. just saying. but you are right, as long as the movie is good it does not matter but that's what i am saying, its not the blood and sex that makes some R movies better, its because they are better because they had the freedom to make the movie they wanted and not a cut down version.

Then what happens to all the ampules, assuming the crashed alien ship is the same as the derelict of ALIEN?
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
Stolen and burned up in the Prometheus when it crashes.
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
Prometheus or the new theory that the ship is called the Megellan.

Sorry was just pulling stuff off the top of my head but thinking about it the room with all the eggs in Alien looks very different from the room with the ampules. I can't say but it seems to me their are a lot less ampules. However you may be right none the less of course none of us can know.

No, no, no... you're right there... Think of the symmetry of the thing... What are the first spoken lines of the trailer...? Now contrast those with the famous lines of John Hurt... Clue..."we've come this far..." think like a screen writer... Look at the possibilities... The beauty of self similarity....
ReplyDinosaurRaghhhPrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
I kind of think the ampules are the engineers way of storing either their young or perhaps different species in different ampules. I think we will see the eggs, but we won't see any of the eggs or the xeno(ish) creature until the film premiers......... I would have also thought that the ampules stay safely on the planetoid in a big underground cave and the ship which has been quoted as being a 'carrier of weapons' takes the bilogical weapon of the xenomorth........
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
They may be related because they were designed by the same engineer but have very different functions. I think the ampules are seeds for planting new life. The ship has lots of different functions and rooms I think. In one shot Shaw gets sucked out of screen and into a void. What would cause this? I was thinking maybe the derelict can breath because it is some kind biomechanical atmospheric processor also.
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
Yeah I agree the underground cave may be a possibility and it just was never discovered in Alien.

I like the idea that Jonesey the cat is behind it all though......... would be a good twist :)

ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
hum dont know but i can add that in the eggs room there was a sort of blue laser cloud ...in prometheus we see some red lasers in the ampule room ( or not far away ) ...
ReplyGigeresquePrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
I was thinking the same thing. They may have tons of different life forms stored in different rooms. Also this may be a completely different ship. Maybe each ampule contents gets mixed somehow and it creates the xeno eggs. The shot of David taking the ampule contents out seems to have four compartments. Maybe those four combine to make the xeno eggs. Maybe...hmmm.
ReplyGigeresquePrometheus ForumDNADec 24, 2011
Frantz...I was thinking the same about the red lasers. Different rooms...different ships??? Interesting.

Interesting theory. I had been thinking about this myself and actually heading towards your thinking.
ReplyNot_my_intentionPrometheus ForumWhy the difference in SJ cockpit from Alien and Prometheus ?Dec 24, 2011
it makes sense but honestly i don't think there can be a theory at all. i just think they made it to look more modern for today's style. not that your idea is bad but remember, they need to worry about the main plot and things for a 2 hour movie give or take, i dont think they would take the time out of the movie to explain why a set looks different, not just to your theory but to any theory.
ReplyGrooveraiderPrometheus ForumWhy the difference in SJ cockpit from Alien and Prometheus ?Dec 24, 2011
I'll go for James Cameron "ALIENS" theory. Inside the derelict overtime was
covered in a secreted resin made by whatever thing came out of the
dead space jockey. I think what we're seeing in Prometheus is the true
mechanical look of the ship and what the space jockey actually was.
ReplyNot_my_intentionPrometheus ForumFox Releases 5 New Stills From Trailer!Dec 24, 2011
i heard a lot of people say they think that the space jockey ship fly's like that, vertically, i disagree, if you watch the trailer at the part when it explodes in mid air it is flying like we usually think of it from the first movie, and when it falls out of the sky it falls that way and lands on the ground vertically, then falls on its side. honestly i hope i am right because if it flew like that i think it would look kind of stupid........ that's just my opinion but still.

Maybe thats why WY setup in the Thedus system in the first place. Losing things in space is really easy after all.
WY may have known that the Prometheus was lost in that area but werent sure exactly where and were confident that at some point in the future one of their ship would stumble across it. Which would explain why there were protocols in place where the Nostromo had to stop and render assistence.
