I read it as half of the SJ Bio meck mask (which most likley connect to the hose or trunk, when he is seated and the, marsk suit and chair close around him - see the open apeture of the chairs bottom) if you look at the Bald Bio mech Guy in the picture he hs a slightly drooping pointed face he will most likley resenble the Fossilised SJ we all know and love. Unfortuanlety I really think he will be the SJ and if you look to the left you will see one what looks to be an open cryo tube (there are what looks like 3 on the floor (a closed one near him) and slightly behind the chair). Yep my money is the big dude is SJ sans Bio suit/ chair molding and has just left the cryotube to the left (It looks open). Most likely thought dead in the chamber when David was looking at the starmap and then aweaked for his mission in the chair (if this is indeed the same room or perhaps a regular shaped room on the ships or facilities)
shame like others I really wanted to see the really alien SJ's doing thier stuff but I guess not and Scott has gone with the much more believable humanoid race, makes sense with any techno species to be adaptable (not stuck in a chair with poor head movement - if that was his nosed permantley connected to his ribs) and stand up and engineer things but a shame all the same, still wanted the SJ to be Alien all on its own and in its own way more strange than the creature that killed it.

Hi all, newbie here.
I have a strange appreciation for Alien 3, on one hand I cannot abide by how the perfect ending to Aliens was so carelessly undone and Hicks and Newt were killed off-screen, but on the other hand I do enjoy the film in its own right and have seen it more times than I care to remember. It is (many many) leagues below Alien or Aliens but if I consider it a standalone film I can enjoy it, as a continuation of Ripey's story from 1 and 2 I hate it.
If they announced one day someone like Cameron would be helming a new "Alien 3" that carried on from Aliens I would be over the moon, but if it never happens I'll just consider 3 a film I can enjoy but not personally consider the real sequel to Aliens, more like a "What if" story.

I love that film as well and have said before that considering how much Fincher was put through by the studio and it's executives and even people on the set at times during the making of that film, it's extended director's cut which was made without his input but completely in his Honor, is a remarkable Film and quite a cinematic achievement.

I must say I'm really surprised at the criticism thrown at Aliens, I didn't really know there was such dislike for it, I've never been able to find fault with it, I think its genius from beginning to end.
Miser:
You obviously didn't sense the humour in my shocked reply. I wasn't irritated I was simply surprised at your opinion, there was no need to ask me to go elsewhere. Maybe you're feeling a bit menopausal ;-) Or maybe we're talking about different films? I say this in response to your last comment "Aliens isn't really Sci-Fi". I fear we might have drastically different views on what is science fiction and what isn't.
Shardy: How can one film be described as "a mythology" ?? also I ask you to retract the comment that Aliens is in the same company as AvP - that sir..... is unforgivable :-)
ReplyTromatizerAlien Movies ForumAlien3 "reboot"?Dec 23, 2011
I don't think they'd reboot Alien 3 HOWEVER, the first Aliens comic books written by Mark Verheiden (and the novelization in three books, written by Steve Perry) take place after Aliens, assuming Alien 3 never happened. They were written prior to Alien 3 and, if you ask me, are freaking fantastic! The original comic was in black and white and actually featured Hicks and Newt as the main characters 10 years after ALIENS. After the release of Alien 3, the names in reprints were changed to Wilks and Billie so they could still be relevant to the established movie universe. These stories are amazing and you definitely owe it to yourself to check them out. If you are lucky enough to come across the original versions, well, you are lucky lol If not, just change the names Wilks to Hicks and Billie to Newt in your mind. Ripley actually comes in in later stories as well. But yeah, it's basically about an alien queen being brought to earth, a cult of humans who believe the aliens are gods, androids, the military, Weyland-Yutani... definitely worth the read. I enjoyed Alien 3 (save for the effects), but these stories are top notch.

"which came first, the chicken or the egg"
it's even more confusing than that....
"Which came first, the Alien, The Egg, or the Facehugger"
ReplyGavinAlien Movies ForumWhat was made first, the Alien or the Egg?Dec 23, 2011
LOL, it really does make me laugh when people say "which came first the chicken or the egg" - The egg of course, dinosaurs laid eggs, small percentage evolve into birds, such as the chicken.
In terms of Alien, I like the Queen (and Princess) idea. Just because it essentially makes them bugs doesn't weaken them in my view. Insects are one of the oldest forms of life, can exist virtually anywhere and after any catastrophic event, and outnumber us by at least a million to one... making them 8 feet tall with acid for blood and using us as hosts to propagate, well that makes them frightening as hell in my opinion.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
Whomever it was that mentioned that this room probably contains human related samples in the urns, with another room with an Alien head surrounded by urns containing Alien related samples is probably right IMO.
These ampule rooms could be categorised storage rooms, each containing samples of a certain species with a monolithic icon of the species within the room.
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
I really don't think there are other relics. I think the face was carved by ancient humans and given to the aliens when they revisited Earth and they put it in their ampule room to honor us, their most advanced creation.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
But we don't know, Giger has a preference (amongst others) to draw such big heads of various forms and of various creations...

...whose to say that their isn't a room with a giant Alien head, surrounded by ampules, and many, many others, each with one of their creations stored within. The monolithic icon could be a symbolic version of a label - think of a folder in "My Documents", the urns are the files, the room is the folder and the icon is the name/title of the folder.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
My understanding of the Big Giant Head to date is that it is a BioMechanical Control device used for one of the Engineer's ships.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
Whose to say we haven't, that maybe what they find on earth, but that capture from the pre-trailer suggests to me that it is a marker for the contents of the urns in that room.
We are all assuming that the Jockeys made us and the Alien, why stop there, why not create many other forms of life for many other planets and purposes.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
exactly, I understand your idea BM but it is my belief that the giant head wasn't constructed by us, but by the Space Jockeys. Why do I think this - look at the detail on the side of the big head in the last pic you posted, it is similar in design to that seen on the outside of the derelict and the inside of the map/pilot room, thus it is my opinion that this head was constructed by the Space Jockeys, not only as a marker so that they know what samples are within the urns, but also as a greeting/confirmation to us when we discover the truth about our origins... which is what the film is supposed to be about.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
the explanation I came up with as to why a Human Looking Head is that some Alien Intelligence viewed their first human space traveler as a sort of God and made it in Man's image, the man they saw first.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant HeadDec 22, 2011
Time will tell, but think of it this way...
We find whatever it is we find that leads us to travel to a distant planet and to that room. Once there we find a huge human head overlooking a vast amount of urns, and (presumably) an empty Space Jockey suit. We grab the Space Jockey's "helmet" and one of the urns and head back to the Prometheus. Inside the urn we find a configuration of four vials stored in some green goo. Inside each vial is genetic material for various lifeforms on earth, with one of them containing human genetic material...
That's my bet. Regards other rooms, I don't think they will be shown as such, most likely inferred, for example... As the crew leave the ampule room with the "helmet" and urn they walk past a passageway leading to another room. In the mist and dust more urns/ampules can be seen on the floor, and the silhouette of a large Alien head overlooking the urns/ampules.

ReplyPredatordreadsPrometheus ForumTo be or not to be pg 13Dec 22, 2011
There is a real good shot for this movie to be released in the theaters with a PG 13 rating. But when it is released on Blu-Ray/DVD they will make a Unrated directors cut that is of course the R rated version. That is how I think fox will do it. I can see if Fox is looking to make this movie beat out all the Superhero blockbusters and this would be their strategy.

All I know is that "Alien" is my favorite movie of all time. I am just mesmerized by the concept and performances. Space intrigues me and there is so much history that happened before humans on earth populated - that's biblical. Can't wait for Prometheus!
ReplyXenotronPrometheus ForumXenomorphs in the movie?Dec 22, 2011
No, there will not be any xenomorphs according to what we know. I hope you're not disappointed.
Even if there were, it would not be the kind of movie where the aliens are loose on the ship, picking the crew off one by one, like we've seen for the past 30 years. There may be something xenomorph-shaped at some point, but it won't be the main attraction.

you have to understand, with suspended animation and the vastness of space, it really may take that long for one trip.
one thing they don't really touch upon in alien is how these ships travel large distances and how long it really takes. and what the psychological effect of workers leaving their family for years and decades and never aging.
if suspended animation is necessitated, than it can be assumed the trip may take at minimal months, perhaps even years. and with the speed i see nostromo going at, it must use a wormhole or *cringe* warp drives?
Although time travel is a science fiction stable, I would lose all interest in Prometheus if time travel was involved.
Things get real messy with time travel involved. For me this element initially worked well in Lost before turning into a big old sticky mess ....... With an appalling ending that ruined the whole thing for me, but that's another story (not a fan of Damon Lindelof for this reason though). Time travel, mutant humans, transmodnification (!) .......... Getting a bit concerned about this now.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumSpace Jockey SecretsDec 22, 2011
Don't get me wrong, time travel can work if it is integral to the plot (a la Terminator), but in Prometheus I dont think it will work, the whole "we created ourselves" idea is ludicrous.
Another idea I don't like is one that has been mentioned a few times, the idea that the Alien as we know being created by accident, by our meddling, as a result of our DNA - the whole android/human becomes xeno idea. I have always imagined the Alien to be almost as old as the Jockeys themselves, kinda their pet project, their crowning achievement.
While on a roll another idea I don't like is the possibility of the Jockey born Alien being a Queen and laying all the eggs in the derelicts cargo bay. That cargo bay was obviously purposely built for the eggs, as shown by the eggs arrangement and the fact that they were "protected" by a layer of laser-mist, that reacted when broken.
I know all these ideas are not guaranteed to be in Prometheus, and most likely probably are not, I just feel that the direction we all assume the story is going in can be done well, really well, just so long as predetermined facts aren't ignored and ludicrous ideas are kept far and away from what promises to be the best film in a long, long time.
ReplywalterhillerPrometheus ForumLV426Dec 22, 2011
that's a cool theory.
my theory on why it's lv426. both are moons. in the trailer, you'll see a landing vessel approach the planet. to the left is a much larger planet.
space jockey's ship crashes on both.
the filming location is the lava fields of iceland. look on google image, it has undulations closely resembling the type seen on lv426.
ReplySeeYouHicksPrometheus ForumLV426Dec 22, 2011
I'm gonna stick my neck out and say no...
In Aliens Ripley states that the derelict was not from there. LV-426 was "a rock" with "no indegenous life." I will say that the derelict is indeed from somewhere else and it was charted for Earth.
We shall see! I can't wait!
It's one of those pivotal events that makes a thinking person sit down and rethink his place in the heirarchy of things. Finding out you are little more than a glorified lab rat can do that.
you can do that without having any evidence to that effect, and you don't have to be a thinking person either, just a person will do.
i submit an even more awe inspiring revelation, which all of us are already privy to, is the fact that all of humanity is but a mote in an infinitely large and unknowable universe. if you know this already, the discovery of aliens isn't going to do much for you.
the most profound discoveries necessarily tears down our presumptions of the world and reinforces the idea that we only know a fraction of reality. discovery of aliens isn't going to do that since we know they exist already(fossilized microbes for example). but that's not what scott is saying. he's not making a mongo statement about alien technology and humans as lab rats, that's way too easy.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumTheoryDec 22, 2011
@ drexl - up until a few days ago that could have been a viable possibility, except for the image that we have now seen a "space jockey" head/mask being scanned in the preview footage, complete with hose-like attachment.
ReplyPredatordreadsPrometheus ForumTheoryDec 22, 2011
I love your theory on the suit that was mentioned Snorkelbottom. If the suit was a sentient being too and the the creepy bald guy would use the suit as a tool for his bidding. It would be pretty awesome! Plus what if maybe a crew member of Prometheus actually got inside the suit and found out all the secrets of terraforming that the creepy bald guy knows. Just something to add to you theory. OK it is December 22nd where is the trailer? Come on FOX get the lead out and lets do this! Its not like we are forcing Axl Rose to reunite with his original band mates.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumTheoryDec 22, 2011
@ Pred - that would work, but what i meant was more like the symbiote in spiderman. That when you don the suit it takes over, IT is in charge, in control. All the person inside the suit would be is nutrients, a food/power source.
That way the Space Jockey would in actual fact be the suit, a living, bio-mechanical, vampiric organism - in a sense the reverse of the Alien, while at the same time its mirror.

ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumTheoryDec 22, 2011
Also, by todays standards Alien is a lame B-movie plot, but its mix of Gigers designs, Cobbs designs, the order 937 conspiracy and Ridleys direction saved it from mediocracy and made it a classic.

this movie may take place quite some time before alien, so the planet may have been changed by meteor strikes or terraformed.
but i agree, more evidence suggests that it's another ship. although, i don't agree that it's because scott says the alien stuff happens at the end, because obviously the ship and the space jockey already relates to alien. scott probabaly meant direct relation aka facehugger appears or something.
