JonesyAlien: Earth ForumAlien: Earth vs. Alien: Romulus - Which is Better?

It’s a tough choice for me. I really like Romulus as a whole. It’s almost perfect as a Alien film that satisfies Alien fans. It gives me Alien Isolation vibe and lots of great throwback after a somewhat detached Convenant.

Alien Romulus is a calculated smash hit and it’s hard to not love it despite a few flaws. On the other hand Alien Earth is a  mad uncontrollable baby which still have so many potential to shock the world.

At this stage I slightly prefer Alien Romulus, but really Alien Earth has so much to explore and it is experiemental, innovative yet also executed greatly so far.

No one is upset but you have asked a few questions irrelevant to this topic. I'm not even sure why you came back here with this after you clarified you had a topic and the answers you wanted

This is all new to me and I hope you will all be patient with me. I like this board (or whatever you professionals call it) and like to see other people's opinions on the movies that have puzzled me since Alien. I guess I just like to see everything tied together with a neat bow. I have gotten many answers here from people who know what they are talking about.

Neomorph Alien: Earth ForumAlien: Earth vs. Alien: Romulus - Which is Better?

Alien Romulus without question. Even if 3 episodes remain of Earth it's highly unlikely it'll change for the better and redeem itself.

While Romulus went a "little" hard on the fan service aspect, it is indeed an authentic "best of Alien" rollercoaster experience whereas Earth seems to have an identity issue (in part because too many people involved perhaps=to many chefs spoiling the broth) and is all over the place.

The xenomorphs were mostly and properly terrifying in Romulus (except the Scorched one that literally saved Rain from plunging to certain death in the elevator shaft) while it just seems confused in Earth and doesn't really seem to know its purpose. Kind of like a metaphor for the series itself.

Sets are impressive in both Romulus and Earth, although it worked better in Romulus as a whole while Earth's sets act like a theatre for actors with various talent in a badly scripted stage play directed by a highschool teacher who wanted to be a director.

Visual effects are impressive in both the film and the series.

The soundtrack is absolutely phenomenal in Romulus and its strongest aspect imo, while it's absolutely horrendous in Earth (they really dropped the ball)

I agree on Andy as well, my favorite android in the series. Likable, caring, badass and cracking terrible dad jokes. I mean how can you not like that guy. Kirsch for me is just Timothy Olyphant being himself more or less.

No... ? I think you're talking about the cocoon in Romulus maybe? There hasn't been anything like that in any other alien movies so far.

No the plumbicare hasn't been in any movies. Only the XX121 Xenomorph as well as the Ovamorph and the facehugger have been seen before

I don't want to have to watch Alien3 or Alien Resurrection again. I'm not sure if the stem that comes out of it was in one of those movies or in the Romulus movie.

I hope the creepy multi eyed octopus is explored, figured out, and then destroyed. That sack that's hanging and shows a stem with pointy pedals that looks like it has spider webs on it was in one of the Alien movies. That's what I mean about them repeating things but not answering questions.

Love SciFiAlien: Earth ForumHonest first impressions of Alien: Earth
It is an enjoyable show, but don't like some of the stuff they are messing with in the lore, like how can the android communicate with the Alien ? I bet they go down the road that the Alien is just misunderstood and not that bad after all.Like they did with Orcs in rings of power.

It's not like Wendy had alien DNA like Ripley did in that horrible Alien Resurrection. The ship hadn't crashed yet for them to do that. How does Ripley with acid blood live normally on Earth? It just seems that they rehash the same plot for every movie: Only the female can win against the aliens, a lovestory that starts but never finishes, a crazy robot, bad guys who are good guys and good guys who are bad guys, etc...

ChrisAlien: Romulus Forum[Rumor] Reason for Fede leaving Alien: Romulus 2 was over wanting to bring David back for the sequel?

I'm wondering the same thing... Also - very very surprised to hear how cool Fede was to casually mention he's no longer directing the next film when he was absolutely hyped to be working on the sequel for a year. I'm sure he's playing cool but I imagine he's livid.

Extremely disappointed in this news, Fede did an incredible job with the movie. Hopefully they find someone as talented.

Give it to a director that knows how to do horror and that understands the importance of human characters.

I had to quit half way through this episode. I agree it was the most "alien" this series felt so far but the writing is just unbearably bad. too many dumb characters doing dumb things. im done with this show. The writing definitely leaves much to be desired, but we've got 3 more episodes to go! Aren't you curious how it ends?

I'm not sure, I was mostly curious about this episode. I might wait until the last 3 come out and just sprint through them.

My pick remains Denis Villeneuve for an Alien movie. I think he's done the most justice for source material for the franchises he's made films for. He'd bring some amazing skill to Alien and he's worked with Ridley before on Blade Runner.

Yea my vote goes to Denis Villeneuve as well

Love SciFiAlien: Romulus Forum(SPOILERS) Alien: Romulus final act
It reminded me a lot of Alien Resurrection and the Newborn. Both final surprise ending acts in the crew's ship, tall pale curious humanoid monster, and it being sucked out into the vacuum of space.

In the beginning of the film, they mentioned dollars as a bet payment. This film did answer some of my questions. It was more informative than the others. They are mostly with the same theme. A woman who knows everything that no one else does and always saves the day, a developing love story between that woman and one of the men, men and women who go to fight the monster, greed, and the woman always wins and goes away without her man.

David did indeed help Daniels and Tennessee by remotely operating the doors against the xenomorph in the corridors aboard the Covenant, which was odd. Maybe he specifically wanted Daniels alive for a Shaw 2.0 experiment. Or maybe he wanted to further gain their trust 🤷

Ultimately however, David made sure that Daniels and Tennessee were locked in their cryo pods just like the rest of the sleeping colonists. This way no one would interfere with his evil scheme.

Neomorph Alien: Earth ForumEpisode 5 – In Space No One Spoiler Discussion
The xenomorph patiently stood right in front of the captain yet does not kill her (!) trips her with its tail (?) allows her to get back up on her feet (!!) and she successfully runs away in the worst Disney chase scene since Leia and the bandits in the terrible Obi-Wan series.  The xenomorph charges after her way faster than any human could possibly run yet she outruns it. I get that some characters have plot armor but this is ridiculous. First Hermit and now this captain avoid getting killed in encounters with the xeno despite being served on a silver plate. Who writes this?? Yes she does get killed at the end so I guess the xenomorph realized it's a killing machine after all. Also in the beginning of the episode no one seems to react a lot to the fact that two of their crew members were facehugged and one of them (previous captain) having his whole throat melted by acid. That young kid even made jokes in this inappropriate situation. It's so off-putting and unrealistic despite that I really try my best to suspend my disbelief at all times but this is Idiocracy-level idiotic.Morrow singlehandedly carried this episode and just barely saved it from being almost unwatchable. Nitpicks (and there are many) include the "perfect organism" xenomorph (well not anymore thanks to Disney) struggling in a fight against a possessed human, the editing with occasional scene fade outs killing any ounce of suspense, Ikea-quality glass cylinders that are supposed to contain highly dangerous organisms, hentai tentacle monster tapping the glass to warn the scientist (lol), a junior/trainee engineer so shockingly stupid I'm surprised he even manages basic daily routines, and so many throwbacks to Alien that even Fede Alvarez' love letter Romulus fade in comparison. The good parts were the scenes with Morrow, some impressive CGI (especially the facehuggers and the xenomorph) the shootout scene against the traitor and the appearance of the infected senior engineer, looking like he came straight from The Thing. This series is like a high-budget YouTube fan film. Severely flawed yet occasionally entertaining.Nothing will ever be worse than the Leia / bandits chase scene 🤣 But yeahhhhh I'm still confused why the Xenomorph was so selective with who it killed and who it toyed with. Is there a reason? The Xenomorph has often been an inquisitive organism as much as it is aggressive. My speculation is that it's simply playing with its food, so to speak.

Plot armor 😉 in all fairness Ripley and Newt had it as well but it was concealed behind a good script (i.e A1-3AC) and phenomenal acting (Sigourney Weaver)  whereas it's painstakingly obvious in Alien Earth.

I want David’s story more than Romulus 2

Honestly same, but I have a feeling Fede wanted to dip further into prequel lore and try his hand at David's story and Ridley considers that very much "his" creation, likely doesn't want anyone else telling that story but him. I can't blame him for that, though. A huge portion of this fanbase want to see what happened to David and Ridley knows it. Romulus and whatever Ridley are planning should remain separate, imo.

For all we know this rumor could be BS and their plans were already to keep the two approaches separate. Maybe it's also a means to survey what audiences want.

Love SciFiAlien: Covenant ForumShould Ridley Scott make a sequel to Alien: Covenant or create something new?

Just finished watching Covenant again. I never could figure out why David was so cooperative at the end. Was it because he was more concerned with ridding the solar system of the 2000 plus humans on board and the embryos? Also, what happened to the extra xenomorph on the planet? Weren't there 2 in the beginning. One was shot and killed by the captain and the other was impaled and tossed overboard by the new captain. That left one and Walter on the surface since he couldn't die. So, yes I definitley want to see Covenant 2 to explain all that.

Love SciFiPrometheus ForumYour thoughts on Prometheus

Just finished watching Prometheus again. Was almost as good as Aliens. Was David obsessed with Lawrence of Arabia or did he just like the movie? Was Vickers in an unnatural relationship with her father? Hated Shaw and the boyfriend. How did the captain figure out it was a military installation with bioweapons? Sometimes the same scenes are played out in different movies. Why didn't they have subtitles when "the engineers" were talking? Why is it always black goo in any container? That was confusing. Was the instructions written on the wall of the cave? How did David know how to open things and speak their language? Why did the only surviving "engineer" have so much hatred for the people who woke him up?

Well, one of the plot features we do know of is a trip to the Alien homeworld! A definite setting most fans are hoping for.

How long do you think it's going to take?

Love SciFiAlien: Earth ForumIs Weyland-Yutani run by a Robot? What the Xenomorph really is... My huge Alien Conspiracy theory!
My poor, poor Bishop getting torn apart. :(rnDavid used his beloved Shaw to create that monster, it's his child and his life's work, of course he's gonna be upset it was killed. He wanted to create life and become more than an android or the humans and engineers, to become a god I suppose. David certainly never followed anyone's instructions once he was left to his own devices. He also contacted WY at the end of Alien:Covenant so that's probably how they knew about the Xeno and replaced the Science Officer with Ash in the first movie, to get a specimen.rnI honestly don't think an AI is running WY, I do think they will expand on the Android/Synthetics lore in the series though, so i'm looking forward to that.rnThe series seems to be taking notes from the old comics like 'Aliens: Earth War'. WY knew about the Xeno because of events that happened in some of the comics IIRC.  This series is set a couple of years before either Prometheus or Alien and WY was aware of the Xeno in that too.

Did Yutani become part of the company in Alien 3? Before Ripley killed herself, an Asian man was part of the group who were trying to take her back to the ship so they could take the monster out of her.

@Love Sci fi, just a friendly reminder that this is indeed Ninxenos topic as he obviously created it so please don't derail it or someone else's. You're questions are not unreasonable and it's fun to discuss all things Alien, that's why we're here right? But please feel free to create a new topic with your questions and we'll take the discussion there. Respectfully//N

I don't understand how I am derailing his topic. I'm usually just asking questions. Why is he so upset?

No big deal, Romulus was an OK love letter to the Alien films but not exactly a masterpiece.

A good script is needed first and foremost. and good actors. Which director is less important (but still important of course)
