I think because of their eyes they are mainly Engineer but with our DNA mixed in. I think some of their faces also had a more human appearance to them. So maybe they might of done some laboratory DNA mixing with human DNA, or took human females for creating children more to their liking....
Or perhaps certain 'castes' of their species already had more white in their eyes than other 'castes'. So, this may have been something that was already normal for them and not original to just humans.
It's also possible because the scene was fast that Ridley simply thought no one notice any 'flaws' on the makeup of the actors. :)
The biggest inconsistency are the eyes.
I would not care much if the Engineers had slightly different body shapes but this detail makes it questionable if these beings on planet 4 are actually part of the Engineer species.
My idea would be that the species on planet 4 are the most successful experiment of the Engineers to be integrated into their society. They just need some more time to be fully integrated (like 200-300k years).
@auximenes
Thanks for the reply.
If they are supposed to be the same species they cant have different eyes. Look at the humans for example. Iris and white eyeballs. They should have the same eye -characteristics.
The more i think about it i dont believe RS, that he declared these planet 4 beings as "Engineers".
Maybe they are one of the most promising experiments they have done, to be integrated in their eternal society.
That inconsistency really asks for the right answers.
Like you said, they could done it with post edit CGI effects but from what i saw the LV-223 Engineer-character had simple black contact lenses.
David Green reported
Aren't Prometheus and Covenant prequels?
Which'd mean that starting from Ash and Bishop, those were the next generation androids? Meaning, a whole new order of androids while David and Walter being a part of the one before.
awe the original doom, what a game, hours of brilliant game play
Yeah, I don't need to see a direct Ripley tie-in. Too forced.
They could have done it easily digitally. They just wanted them to look different. Why? Hard to say for certain.
I think the idea of david interfering with the covenant in space with some explosion may well have been something that was discussed but it just isn't believable. as soon as david kills the engineers he would have to design an elaborate trap with detection grids that would then trigger the device. but then he would have to build such devices, mine the material required to simulate the explosion from a star and launch such devices. all of this done within 10 years and on his own??? no chance. I believe he is expecting someone but not for a long time as honly has the video signal of shaw and hel be aware that only ships passing close to the system will detect it. which also leads me to believe he is very limited on the planet in terms of technology. if he had more advanced and powerful forms of communication at his disposal im sure he would have used it to communicate with mankind. also his work shop doesn't look particularly advanced. he arrives at the site of the lander only after he has heard the explosion
agreed with dk. Plus Family links were done with Alien: Isolation. lets leave it there, that worked and was a plausible scenario, daughter looking for missing mother. But if we start bringing in Ripleys parents and distant relatives (Maybe a long line of Jonesy's too) it's going to get really cheesy and lame
as imperfect beings we can never create perfection
This adds a fate/predestination vibe to the story instead of her being a regular person dealing with unexpected circumstances. No thanks.
I think what Ridley will do is introduce her parents and a child Ripley as opposed to an older one.
An older Ripley in Alien II (right after Alien - 1979) would be OK, I think, but a young one... why? ...I don't know...
At least two films before a young Ripley movie? Awesome! :)
I Moon Girl/BigDave/IRaptus/sherris - Thank you for your comments and ideas, I'm happy that you agree with me. Of course, I know that the next movie needs a remarkably good story, no surprise, but its visual features are very important as well.
We need more! For instance, the Scorpion Mothership is awesome, OK, but showing/seeing it for five seconds is not enough! We want more exciting visual characteristics to appear in our Alien Universe.
Does it take much more money? Ah, yes, give Scott more, and the movie will bring back much-much more.

That's not how that phrase goes lol I find it funny people want Ripley back through Neil's Alien V but aren't happy that she could be tied into the prequels somehow?
Lawrence of Arabia, Yes i don't like David as he is never likable nor relatable. He is a flawed creation built by an extremly arrogant man who failed to put the appropriate safeguards inside his creation to prevent that he become a threat for human race. Moreover if he needs outside maintenance to said healthy and functionnal than he is neither perfect nor immortal !
In fact i like Walter thus i can't like David !
Even the Xenomorph from Alien is far from a perfect organism as there are scifi species which are better survivor than this species. Calvin from the movie Life for example, is a better survivor than Xenomorph and is even smarter and apparently way harder to kill.
Last scene in The Crossing was Dr.Shaw entering the hypersleep chamber.
She likely remained in that state some months or even years after the black goo bombing so the air of the planet is less contaminated with the released pathogen.
If she was awake before, then the black goo would desintegrate the flesh like the local species on planet 4.
Keep in mind the Juggernaut crashed right after the bombing after a collision/fight with the scorpion-docking platform, so the pathogen would enter the ship and contaminate the air.
When you look at her body it's in a flawless state. Could be a fresh kill ,relatively time -wise.
I mean, Dr.Shaw probably was alive when the Covenant crew received the emergency signal.
Just imagine the situation from her perspective. Living on a dead planet with a psycho android in limited space (for years?), because if she would go outside the spores would infect/kill her.
IT IS IMPLIED THAT THE FOLKS ON PARADISE ARE CREATED!
Note what Scott said recently: "There will be three or four different players coming in to investigate. One of which will be the Engineers arriving back to find their planet decimated. I think those ships come and go on regular intervals. I see them as the gardeners of space."
Connect the dots between the last two sentences. Connect them!
David was "marooned on [Paradise] for these many years." And why? Well, because it was scant of highly advanced technology! Perhaps the only device that was somewhat impressive was the sensor that turned on the lights when one entered a room.
Consider for one that the Engineers have the ability to build spacecraft that are HOMOGENOUSLY structured (else how could the Juggernaut survive that crash landing)? This for one means that they have highly complex software systems that, for lack of better words, allow them to "grow" technology rather than manufacture it industrially like us (i.e., this part goes with this, and these parts go with these, etc.).
Then we have the fact the Engineers have GALAXIES (consisting possibly of trillions of stars and exponentially more planets) mapped out.
Finally, it is arguable that they are the damn creators of the black goo, allowing them to play God and seed worlds. How much more complex can a society yet?
Yet Paradise is an absolutely primitive society with CRUMBLING stone structures and people still farming for WHEAT!
THEREFORE, the only conclusion is that these are NOT the Engineers. As BigDave has been repeating himself over hundreds of times, those are NOT the damn Engineers. There is a hierarchy to this whole ordeal. It is the equivalent of calling chimpanzees humans (or humans Engineers). They are related to us, yes, but they are not us!
OF COURSE, there is the counter argument. If an alien civilization goes to Nairobi or some monastery in Tibet and judges the state of our society from that, it would be quite wrong. However, within the context of the film and the religous metaphor and what little Scott has said, I think it is safe to assume that these are not the Engineers.
Well, why did David do what he did? "Sometimes, to create, one must first destroy," David himself said in Prometheus.
David sees the Xenomorph as a "perfect organism" because its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility. He admires its purity. A survivor... unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. The Xenomorph doesn't waste it's time contemplating life or who his creators are but surviving. To create, one must first destroy. It is a beautiful creature too. Now whether or not the spore is more effective then facehuggers is up to debate but the Neomorph is clearly the inferior species, there even was a deleted scene where the Xeno was gonna destroy it in a battle. I believe the Facehugger produces a stronger product as oppose to the weaker spores because it's more concentrated. The Xeno we saw in Covenant isn't perfected yet, as David was even disappointed with it. I feel like Timiteh just does not like David so I won't argue but this is how I see it. David was built to be a perfect being (he can process things faster, has eidetic memory, super-human strength) but because he hasn't had maintenance he is slowly becoming more flawed as pointed out by Walter but David doesn't acknowledge it of course because he has become obsessed and mad. He expresses disdain towards the Engineers because they were not what they were hyped to be by the their human products and they have fallen on LV-223 and now Planet 4. He even made better what the Engineers did with their Deacons/Ultramorphs/whatever the precursor to the Xeno was. I'm excited to see how David progresses with his work in the next installment. I like that the bad guy won.
The Les Edwards pic is amazing especially considering the age of it.
It is about time alien had some large scale designs. I would like more tech from "The Elders" the "Teardrop" ship returning would be great. If we build on that and get to see "The Elders" living on a space station instead of a planet as we expect. Being more technological and organicly lead rather than being a race which denounces possessions for Faith and live in a religious based haven not using tech in their everyday lives.
Could be a little twist which encourages even larger scale tech not really seen in the Franchise yet.
Well, i am not too sure that David is smarter than a human in every way. He is able to process data faster, has almost flawless memory, assuming he doesn't distort it,to remember what he want to remember but he doesn't seem able to create something as advanced as himself. Or at least his flawed logic make him unable to understand that a more advanced version of himself would be a more impressive and interesting achievement than his so called perfect organism. Weyland has correctly acknowledged that he needs a being like David, more advanced in some keys points, to help him with his work.
Regarding Engineers, sure they made mistakes and some of these mistakes are hard to believe from a supposedly advanced race, but i think that they are superior to David in any single way besides being vulnerable to Black goo because of their organic nature.
The mere fact that they are physically way more powerful than him, and from his fight with walter we can acknowledge that he is quite powerful, despite being living being is a tribute to their genetic engineering capabilities. And i don't think that they have only enhanced their brute force and durability. They have certainly enhanced their cognitive capabilities as well. It is even possible that they can process data faster than David and outsmart him in possibly any way. According to me,the only thing that has enabled David to apparently go further than them in his experiments, is his invulnerability to black goo. And even with that what he has achieved is relatively limited. Moreover we don't know enough of them, to even be sure that they have not gone much further than David. We still do not know what wipe them out on LV 223. Whatever it is, it is certainly way more dangerous and powerful than either Xenomorph or Neomorph.
I have a hard time to believe that David expect his Xenomorph to be an efficient weapon against mankind, the way they are. Their spreading method is way more inefficient than the neomorph spores and from what we see in the movie they are incredibly easy to kill. As a matter of fact Daniels seem more pissed off than frightened by the Xenomorph.I think that correctly used black goo is close to the perfect weapon to wipe out animal life on a planet. And i doubt that David could create something as advanced and as efficient as Black goo.
@Big Dave - Once again, thank you very much for your insight to this post!
@Dark Nebula
That is comedy gold. XD
BigDave: Yes, it would be interesting to hear what Haag has to say about the temple on "Paradise". What was it's function?

Outside, there is this vast round area with buddha-like statues of offering and a docking station. Were abducted humanoids taken here to be sacrificed?

An egg is dormant until a humanoid (something living) comes near it (just as the spores). Towards David, it shouldn't become aggressive. If a sacrificial humanoid comes near, however . . .
BigDave - So if we agree that Planet 4 is a special place and was also being hidden and watched over by these others, probably Engineers223 on the order of "The Elders" and that they are contained or choose to be together as one...
With RS hinting at biblical themes and the connections, do you have any idea WHY "The Elders" or Gods would keep such a strict hold on them?
Or if there is any evidence in old texts of Fallen Angels or the Devil having alternate use for the human body / bodies ?
I was thinking as this is an Alien movie there is a chance that there is an ulterior motive for "The Elders" and their creation to spread life.
Perhaps there is a flip side to that?
Maybe a darker side which opposes the ideas of creation and the spreading of life?
Thank you very much everyone.
They found his house and thought it was abandoned for a very long time so they decided to settle there. But when Shrek came home and saw them occupying his house and swamp, all they could hear are these words, knowing they are f#$%ed.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAAAAMMMPPPPPPPP"
Here's the poster version

Maybe David was pissed off because his beloved but irritating Dr Shaw had died...
so its only Logical that Shrek had lost his beloved and just as irritating Friend DONKEY!
We dont know what happened to Shaw 100%
We have the Scrolls that Daniels was looking at but these was only shown briefly and some of this could not have happened to her due to how her Corpse was found... as One Picture Daniels found, Dr Shaw was Bald and had a Tube down her throat which looks like some-kind of Face Hugger event... The other image is Dr Shaw with Hair with her Head taken off and Jaw ripped off.
Maybe these are just concepts the team worked on? maybe they can be explained as some Strange Visions David had on his mind where he then drew them.. but does not mean this is what he actually did to her.
At very least we see Dr Shaw has something growing from/attached to her Head. What this is, is open for debate and its purpose. I would assume its to either keep her alive or indeed to control/contain her. But at some point it looks like she either (or both) had some Organism growing inside of her removed, or had her Reproductive Organs and Ovaries Removed.
If you was David and wanted to experiment with this stuff, you would be Fascinated to have wanted to know the Fruits of your Labor from the experiment he did with Holloway.
David would know the Goo infection to Shaws Womb did create the Trilobite and so its likely trying to REPLICATE such a Experiment would be his First Task.
A Thing to remember is they had a number of ideas of what would happen and become of Dr Shaw, and a lot had evolved compared to the earlier ideas... which was apparently she would be connected to a Device thats Bio-Mechanical, and experiments on her Eggs... then she would gradually be infected to become something less Human and Produce Eggs.
This is from what the Source 2.5 years ago i had, and clues they gave me. Now over 2.5 years latter Concept work from those working in the movie regarding unused ideas do seem to Back this Up... as far as what the intention was at some point.
Indeed there are a lot of Organisms David had been experimenting on and with, in the aim of creating Perfection.
He is cross-breeding and experimenting on trying to create the Perfect Organism... it would be like if some Scientist on here could find a way to Splice and Merge DNA of Life on Earth and Create a Hybrid.
You want a Ultimate Predator? Take a Tiger, mix in Eagle DNA so you now have a Flying Tiger, give it thick Scales like some Reptiles, Give it Fangs of a Spider and a Scorpion Tail.
What a Deadly Beast you have created... but this is Fantasy, we are a long long way off being able to Splice Genes from various Organisms to make such a Hybrid.
But in the Franchise... David can do this.. because THIS is exactly what the GOO is... its how it was INTENDED and they have changed it a bit but going back to Spaights ideas for it (Nano-Scarabs) it was a Tool that can Splice DNA from different Organisms to create Hybrids.
This is basically what David has been doing for nearly 10 years, and at some point he needed something Dr Shaw has to complete his Experiments.. this most likely has to do with her Reproductive Organs or Eggs.
The Closest we got to a Xenomorph in Prometheus was the Deacon, all clues seem to lead us to this Organism was only possible due to Dr Shaws Eggs.
This really is a fun bunch! You all are so kind with your good humored celebration of my happy news! (I hope that my own idiosyncratic humor is well received here because, like Ripley 8, occasionally things that I suspect of being funny are not actually :P)
I'm really looking forward to more of your amazing writing!
Thank you so much!!! :D
There were about a dozen. All gone now.
I think its Davids Flawed Logic that he believes he is superior.
David is Smarter, Faster and Stronger than a Human, David will be able to live a Vast amount of time provided he is maintained, he will never grow old. He will never Die (of Natural Causes).
When David finds Mankinds Creators, he realizes they are not Immortal or very God like the only Advancements that have is they have achieved a way to make themselves Life for Longer than Humans and be immune to many of of illnesses, with the Genetic Advancements Mankind has been making who knows how FAR we would come in say 1000's of years, i think there is a good chance we would be free from Cancer, and other Organ Problems... we would surely be able to Live for Longer... and even Be IMMORTAL if we master what Science did in the Movie THE 6TH DAY where we can keep Clones of ourselves and just upload our Mind/Soul into New Bodies when our current one has failed.
So David finds out these Engineers are Far from GOD's and they only have their Advanced Technology and Advanced Genetics (longer life, Strength and Speed) that separates them over Mankind.
The Engineers had failed to contain the experiments they was conducting, and so we could see a Army of 200 Androids would be able to use and not suffer as serve consequences with the Engineers Experiments and Technology as the Engineers had done.
We dont know yet if the Engineers had even created this Technology or in part had Stolen/Found it.
The Biggest Advantage a Engineer has over David is simply Brute Strength, the LV-223 Engineers at least are way more powerful than David, and even a Predator too.
But in a Possible Scenario like Terminator.. if say the World had been over taken by Androids i am sure they could create more Advanced Ships than Humans, and build more Advanced Machines/ Mech suits or Larger Robots that would be a Match for the Engineers in Hand-to-hand combat.
If Androids overtook Earth and then all our outposts and Enslaved Mankind, i am sure in 500 years after the events of Alien Covenant, that the AI/Androids would have very much more Advanced Technology and Weapons than Mankind could create.
And then also we have to consider these Androids can use and control the Engineers Technology and use that against them.
So while David is using Human Technology and Engineer Technology it appears he is able to use and experiment with these to greater levels than the creators of this Technology.
That's not a Neo spine. It's a spiny mullusk shell. There are a lot of shelled mollusk drawings and specimens in David's lab.
Looks like they just used a real one as a prop.

Who do you think pissed him off?? My money's on either Oram or Walter, lol.
"I agree that there is a good possibility that the Beings on Planet 4 were there for a special reason and it seemed unlike any Colonised world that they ALL live in one city together. United"
Indeed it was interesting why they would all be bunched up in One Place the only way this makes sense is so that a Civilization can be kept in check, watched over and controlled/contained.
Adam and Eve was to be given The Garden of Eden to start Civilization and they was also kept within the confines of this ONE Place.
Paradise had the Æon Flux kind of look to it, where in that movie the last of Mankind was kept within the Walls of a Great City for a very Good Reason, and Watched over by the Watcher on the Relical Craft that contained all the DNA of the Cloned Humans in the City.

Alien Covenant gave me the same kind of feeling that these more Human looking Engineers were being watched over by the beings on-board the Scorpion Docking Mother Ship.
Ridley Scott is still hinting at and touching upon the themes of Creation and Ultimately if there is a GOD, and it will be interesting to see how far he touches upon this now, or if this is something they are brushing away.
But for sure, this Place is Important to the Engineers if you was a Gardener and had planted Many Many Vineyard's around the World trying to Perfect the Best Grapes to Produce the Best Wine...
And then when you had started to get Perfect Results you took the best Grapes from these Vineyards and planted them within one area that would now be you most special Vineyard that contains the Fruits of Many years of Labor.
And then someone comes along and Burns the Lot... i am sure you would be Pretty Upset.. So indeed these Engineers/Elders who find their Paradise Seeding Crop now decimated will not be very HAPPY at all.
I used to be a Gamer but i kind of lost interest in Gaming a bit, i used to do a fair share 10 years ago.. my PC is that old and i used to mainly play Wolfenstien Enemy Territory.. like 50 hours a week ;)
Now i tend to play Old School Games on Emulators, or even dig out one of my old Consoles... I still play the old Doom Games and Mods... and over the last 3 years i have played Doom 64 a number of times that i know the levels off by heart.
Financially i just dont have the money to be playing more latter games, i even never invested in a PS4 or Xbox One on the account that my PS3 and Xbox 360 never get used and i have many games still sealed.
