Nickles and DimesAlien: Covenant Forum****SPOILER*** David Walter update

It was Walter not David at the end. Walter had already decided David was beneath him and it had already shown Walter's reflexes are vastly superior to David's. David gave Walter a choice between two. Only two. But Walter saw that David's mindset was right but that David, himself, was inferior. You can see him thinking about Davids philosophies when David let's Walter in on of his intentions. It can also be seen that the injuries on the android in question matches the one's of Walter but they do not match the one's of David. There is no hole in the neck where Walter stabbed him. It may not be definitive but it's a cool thought.

BushmanattackAlien ForumWhy David DID NOT create the xenomorphs!/? (Spoilers; A:C)

Just watched Alien: Covenant and I'm confused. The Nostromo arrived at LV-426 in 2122 and they found the FOSSILIZED remains of the pilot aboard the alien ship with a cargo hold full of alien eggs. The Covenant arrived at the engineers home world in 2104. David supposedly perfected/created the alien egg.

That's just 18 years for an alien ship that's full of David's eggs to crash on LV-426 and for the pilot to become a fossil.

@VivisectedEngineer

"Wow, that's really interesting that you watch in black and white or sepia! How do you do it??"

VLC player has a vast array of video and audio options. You can do just about anything to the movie.

Good monster design is very difficult. Giger was one in a billion.

No Giger. No Alien series.

We need some high stakes to make the forum suffer through this if implemented. I think my incentive idea will not pan out unless something happens very soon.

agreed the insectoid with posterior limbs looks to much like a Dead Space "necromorph".

I think they picked the right on-screen design for the Deacon, Trilobite and Neomorph though its fascinating to see the process they went through to get there.

The spider-like inscetoid is an interesting one. I always liked the idea of having a hive lurker xeno in fully developed hives. Something spider-like that built the hive, webbed victims, moved the queens eggs etc. Just to add that extra terror of being in a hive lol

I am happy with the visuals, but I also watch BW Twilight Zone and Star Trek. I can overlook visual limitations if the content is good. I suspect some will say AC had neither- fair enough.

One suggestion that may appease the camera shy and those of you wishing to remain anonymous - instead of a video, why not try an audio recording, vox pops, or podcast style approach.

@hox, do you know what camera was used during the original Alien in 1979 (so c. 1970-77 era cams, etc)? Surely one could find that camera type for cheap and used by now at a pawn shop or something (for a project I'm working on).

EDIT: I found this am I on the right track?

@VivisectedEngineer Nice one, many thanks for your explanation - makes a lot of sense. I just wish that little details like that were shown/clarified, even if just a few seconds shot of the process. Having said that I suppose that would take away the shock-factor of what David has done when we see it. Ha, I think I'm simply wishing for a 'documentary' about the whole Alien Universe - as in a proper scientific documentary as though it is a real place :)

The 'cheap video' parts of Covenant were the scenes filmed using a GoPro. The rest of the movie was shot using ALEXA cameras.

VivisectedEngineer On the other hand, if he made a quick detailed sketch and she thought what you suggested, he could have easily explained it away by explaining his photographic memory, super android skills etc and even say that it is a testament to her fine handiwork in restoring him.

I agree there is a Dead Space necromorph vibe and that is great for that series, but I don't think it fits with this series and am glad they didn't use it or the bugs.

Best concepts are in the film. No bugs or insectoid queen ever from Ridley Scott. That's my bet.

dkAlien: Covenant ForumA:C Novel, David's insight into the pathogen...

I think you may be right. It also seems to debunk the idea many of us had to send androids to the surface first. An android wouldn't seem to activate the pathogen so the crew probably would have still been the same way.

Lady AnneAlien: Romulus 2 NewsAlien: Covenant deleted and alternate scenes listed!

Glad these will be at least on the dvd/Blu-ray however wondering if they'll just be that a bunch of deleted scenes or be in a director's cut of the movie. And I'm not refering to the movie here AT ALL just using a phrase only in that by just making it a bunch of deleted scenes is akin to "Garbage without context is just garbage" as in by not restoring it into a director's cut of the movie some people may not get the full meaning of the scenes.

Also about the neomorph suits ripping. HAD Ridley Scott used Studio ADI for the xenomorph and creature effects he would have avoided that problem. This is something that’s bothered me this ehole time. After Aliens, Stan Winston "gave" over the Alien creature effects to ADI which had just formed after Aliens was completed by two of his students/apprentices who were finally ready to go out on thier own. Since then ANY xenomorph creature effects have been under their control completely through 20th century fox with one of them, Tom Woodruff, Jr. Appearing in the xenomorph suit for many of the "hero" shots. Why they were snubbed, and basically ripped off, for this movie I've no idea, but had they been involved, I truly believe it would have been way better in regards to the creature creation and effects including being able to shoot that scene and shoot it without the suits ripping. Again - why Ridley Scott choose to do that I’ve no idea AT all and feel this film further suffered from that choice.

Please again these are just my thoughts only. No offense meant to anyone elses view or to all the hard working folks who did do the creature effects for this movie! Lady Anne ^^ö^^

OscarTheEngineerAlien: Covenant ForumCovenant video looks low-budget?

Ok so i found an answer that better explains what i mean. On another forum a person asked why movies shot on digital look so different that movies shot on film. A poster answers:

“It's interesting isn't it. So far as I can tell both of your examples were shot digitally.

I've seen footage from RED cameras that looks like cheap video, and footage that looks cinematic.

Digital Cinema Cameras are very versatile and capable of mimicking the look of film, but it takes more effort to do so than if you were to simply shoot on film. On their default setting most digital cameras will look like video.

I recently made a post about this, but to summarise, in my opinion it's alot to do with image sharpness.

Overly sharp images look more like video than film (film is highly detailed but the images aren't 'sharp' as such). If you look at Cold in July there's a softer quality to the images than those in The Prince. This is partly down to lenses used and settings on the camera, but they may have added filters in front of the lens or done additional post production to soften the image further.

There is also a distinct lack of grain with digital cinema cameras. It has a very 'plastic-ey' look. Grain is another thing which has to be 'added' with digital cinema cameras, film just inherently had grain.

Basically it's down to whether the production team cares enough (or wants) to make the effort to get a filmic looking image. In the past they would have been shooting on film so they wouldn't have had to care!”

So what I called “cold” is actually a sharp image. As he says, it can look like cheap video and that’s exactly what I was trying to say. At times Covenant has a cheap video look to it.

I think Covenant and Prometheus were possibly shot on same type of cameras, but they spend more time in the post production on Prometheus and made it look more cinematic.

There's a big difference between a 10 second casual sketch and a carefully constructed medical drawing though

The dialogue in the movie is an abridged form of the above. But... the moment Weyland orders David to perform the menial task of crossing the room to pour his tea, the ominous music chimes in, and Ridley Scott's name appears as Director, that's the moment David's plans are hatched. When Weyland raises his eyes on his scowling face to meet David's, you can plainly see the machinations going on in David's mind. It could hardly be any clearer.

"They're all crap just like the movie and this website lol"-

The movie is pretty divisive- agreed. If the website is "crap", suggestions are always welcome on how to make things better. Otherwise it just comes across as baseless complaining and/or trolling.

One of the movie's strengths is how great it looks. The production design and lighting is simply terrific.
