I liked the concept art here (even bettert than the onscreen variant), but I do still think the throatbursting scene was pretty wild! I was a bit shocked in the theater honestly!
I didn't even think there would be Neomorph vs Xenomorph deleted scene on the blu-ray. It was in the script but wasn't shot because of the encountering issues. It's in the novel because they gave Alan D. Foster the script and he novelized it.
Still curious if there are bloopers or a post production animation of it.
I'm definetely getting the blu-ray.
@Nick Burkardt Please do not post links to bootleg online copies of the movie, that's a very big no-no here at Scified. I have removed the links and will re-lock this thread. Since I feel you didn't have malicious intent and are a good member who is active in the forums i'll look past it this time. Thank you for your understanding.
I don't think it looks low budget at all.
@ali81 I do remember David saying something about the black goo that it comes in various forms. I will need to check.
Me too Jake, Me too. :(
Agreed about the Throatbursting scene. It was very dark and hard to see. I think the variant shown in this article would have been far more terrifying to watch.
Get the novel by Alan Dean Foster. Oh man, it's amazing you HAVE TO READ IT!!!
Not a fan of the insectoid design.
Very cool! The insectoid with posterior limbs definitely makes me think of something out of Dead Space. I would have loved to have seen the NeoMorph with multiple heads and arms as a nod to the Queen Alien.
I liked the back burster scene in AC, but the throat burster scene was slightly underwhelming. The concept of a tenticle neomorph coming out of every orrafice in its victim's body would have been incredibly gory and awesome.
"or maybe he's just a weird dude and he thought that'd be a cool thing to do." - VivisectedEngineer
That might describe how the writers were thinking! BUT I would guess David figured that no one could accidentally find the embryos/he wouldn't lose them if they were inside of him.
But back to the op's question, I don't know. I mean, we know he engineered them to have a pretty extreme growth rate and what not, so he probably had the ability and tools to engineer them to recognize him as friendly/their leader. I feel like them seeing him as a leader or one of them is too far fetched, but if he had time to calmly interact with one, maybe he could make friends?
Remember though, the adult protomorph that was running around on the covenant saw him on the video monitor and attacked the image, so I don't know. I guess it makes sense, since he didn't get to imprint on it (if that is actually what happened before.)
Last chance at making sense of the protomorph behavior in the chesburst scene: Since the protomorph was seconds old, growing, learning of it's world, and super vulnerable, it was just the perfect form something real cutsy lol.
Either way, it was just a really cinematic kind of thing. David, the creator (or recreator, whatever) of this beast and now the catalyst of the subsequent Alien films really (sort of), with his creation. Sort of connects everything and tells us how it is.
The collectors edition is just another behind the scenes/making of book. I have only read so far in it, but you probably don't need to purchase it. Get the novel though. It is a really great read!
chli:
In the movie.... (hm) Prometheus prequel of Covenant, we saw mural in engineer ship !!! Mural of creature like xenomorph queen, in room where they find black goo !!! So engineers create bioweapon/virus based on xeno !!!
It only can mean that is black goo based on xeno dna... David find a host for ''virus''. It evolve to ''deacon''.... he don't create it.
When he discover what evolve from it, he head to engineers homeworld !!! Kill them and find proper DNA to clone it. He come there and kill them !!! After that he find facehugger !!! He try to bring it to life...he cant... he clone it... but it need egg... sth need to lie a egg... a female... a queen !!! He connect eggs with Dr. Shaw... he create first live eggs after century of they extinction !!! He brings xenomorphs to live again, resurrect them !!!
Good lord, those bursting concepts are FREAKY! The second to last image, with it coming out of nose and eyes as well? What a scary shot that would have been. I love the Deacon-looking design! I like what we received, but that could have been crazy to see! Also would have been nice connective tissue to Prometheus (having that much more similarity in creature design.)
Oh and that McBride shot from the trailer, it seems to just be the way they constructed the door. Haha I don't know, that's more of an excuse as I don't see the problem there. Beauty is subjective!
I don't know, sometimes you see some quality work in low budget films! Well, you definitely can find good work in low budget stuff, actually! I see your point with the crew messages, that is meant to be them on their gopros making homemade videos for thier family.
Now, the grass scene, I disagree. I mean, I think it is the lighting. It is one of many scenes with very little lighting, which I really noticed in my second viewing (and after seeing people mention it online). It is also really frantic with the creatures attacking, a lot of quick movement and angle/setup changes, so I think that may give off some bad vibes image quality wise. I think it is just because of the approach to covering the scene.
Oddly enough, the stills you included from the grass attack were a couple of my favorite frames/stills from the production! Waterson is doing great there, her looking into the unkown of the mist/smoke and the light, after (or was the before? It works either way) the scary attack frmo some f&*%ing alien creatures! David's is awesome too, him presenting himself as the savior, all sihlouetted, it's cool.
Maybe the lighting is a bit even in the grass attack scene, not as dynamic as usual in the film?
I was hoping we'd see a "Dr. Shaw's decoy" deleted scene. :(.....
Cool! Some of these sound like scenes that were included in the novel! :D
Well, in the novel it is said of Walter:
"As his was the only voice to be heard on the Covenant, he missed no opportunity to employ it...when the situation demanded it, he enjoyed listening to himself."
As a teacher on summer vacation, I'm in a quite similar position to an Android who has a lot of time to themselves while everyone else is in hypersleep.
I miss no opportunity to voice my thoughts on the forum, even if no one in particular is listening.
So, I've become less like the Xenomorph of the forum, and more like the... bored-Synthetic-that-likes-to-hear-itself-talk...of the forum, lol.
Yes, absolutely, ali81. Have you read the novelization? The conversation between Weyland and David at the beginning is even more in depth and I think you would really like it.
You know, I'm never really bothered by something looking "low budget" or like "bad CGI" because I feel like, if I saw something that looked exactly like that in real life it would be freaking terrifying and I wouldn't be critiquing the details.
So, it seems believable to me. If something scary and crazy happened in real life, it would look haphazard, not carefully choreographed with lighting set up from calculated angles.
Wow, that's really interesting that you watch in black and white or sepia! How do you do it??
Man these stories are so fun to read! I'm kind of envious of you all who got to see it on the big screen, lol!
It's interesting to see how many people were very young when they first saw Alien! I think the only "scary" movie I saw when I was young was "Child's Play".
A babysitter showed it to my sisters and I when I was like...7. I thought it was just stupid because it seemed so unbelievable.
I would have been really traumatized by Alien though, because by the I was already really obsessed with and paranoid about the whole mythology surrounding UFOs and alien abduction, lol.
Well, David knows about Weyland corp technology (I mean...he is Weyland corp technology), and he's worked on a Weyland ship before. So that might be why he knows the right dimensions for an embryo freezer.
As for where he got the substrate that the embryos were stored in...well, he had unrestricted access to everything on Planet 4 for the past 10 years. He probably gathered up a bunch of science stuff from various places.
A race of genetic engineers having the necessary materials to store embryos seems pretty believable to me.
That's awesome, someone should turn it into a web-comic. It can be like an alternate universe version of David and Shaw's story.
It's "Green to green, red to red it's meant to be simple", get it together man! Jk Jk.
"perhaps david has basic tools on him incase of field repairs he may need to carry out on himself?"
Perhaps David carries a bunch of medical instruments around with him in case he wants to dissect somebody? Maybe he carries them around in the same utility belt where he hid Shaw's necklace.
"Humans = talking animals"
David
Can't be much fun hanging around squishy bags of meat and listening to all their little world problems.
Must be something greater out there!!!
Thanks, Jonesy!!! :D I'm so happy for me too, lol!
Thank you so much!!! :D
Thank you! :D Man, isn't that just wild to think about!? That the kiddo is right here, chilling inside of me?
Lol, today my husband went on a little rant telling me about a bad experience he had at the dry-cleaners and he said a swear word. Then he immediately followed it up with "Oops sorry! I shouldn't swear in front of...you two!" Lol. I told him "Yeah! My baby only likes profanity in Alien movies." hehe.
(But, also, I literally shouted "Oh f*ck!!" at the jump-scare scene where the facehugger in the tank stuck its proboscis out at Burke when I was home alone yesterday, lol... <_<)
I saw the movie 4 times in the theater and every time was different!
Screen size...lighting.... new bulb in the projector? ambient light. Reflective characteristics of the screen.
First time was: *meh* CG looked bad. Digital video feel.
Second time was :*Wow* CG looked fantastic. 70mm film look!!
Just different theaters I guess?
I watch Prometheus in Black and White or sepia and I add film grain with motion blur...I'll try Alien:Covenant the same way.
A:C in sepia tone is going to be awesome.
Oooh I love this topic already. When I saw Alien for the first time, it was airing on tv, I was a young duckling, idk maybe 10 years old... And first thing that struck me and is still revelant in Alien (1979) is the terrifying, uneasy feeling of isolation that it created. The dense depths of space with spaceship cruising, locked in it like a can with a unique looking creature lurking around. The disturbing atmopshere of this movie along with the visuals (I absolutely loove the interior of the Nostromo, the design even now in 2017 looks amazing imo) has been following me since then and to be honest, hard for me to recall any movie that made me feel like this.
And I agree about space jockey - scene with it leaves quite a memory! The giant kind of ambigiuosly looking specimen fossiled and with it's ribs out....Forever grateful for Giger's vision.
Seriously cool picture ninXeno426, and food for thought.
Thinking now, perhaps what with the weird and convoluted way the franchise is going that LV-223 may have been visited in the past by Jabba the Hut, where he happened upon a deacon and froze it in carbon a-la Han Solo. Who knows... the Hut may even have been suffering from worms, had to take a number two and voila... hammerpede originators! Just a thought ;)
The question must be asked as to how David knew the exact size and dimensions that the facehugger embryo's needed to be to fit in the special embryo drawers of the Covenant. Also... where did he get the gel that surrounds the embryos and how come it looks identical to the gel surrounding the human embryos that were no doubt packaged up on Earth. Little things like this explained would make all the difference. Ridders is an amazing visual director, as in really amazing; but he's a pretty naff storyteller what with his lust for pacing and leaving out essential/interesting story elements as a result. It saddens me that the best version of Prometheus (by a long way) is the Agent 9 fan edit. The best version surely should be the directors original? But nevertheless... Ridders is ploughing on and fair play to him for it considering his age. Shortcomings aside it's still an exciting ride at this moment in time for us Alien fans :)
ArkhamWrath: I agree that this seems to be the case in the novelization of Alien: Covenant. In the movie, however, they seem to have moved in the direction that David actually created the xenomorph (the eggs waiting for a host, that is) through experimentation with the mutagen/pathogen, fauna on the planet and Shaw.
same principle as a condom
"People are dying... We need Guns!"
Best... script... ever!
(!!!NOT!!!)
You know, looking at that cool picture you have included in your opening post has ignited a what if proposition...

What if... The creature depicted in the mural in Prometheus isn't a depiction at all, but the (remains of the) actual creature itself?
AVP movies can fits very nice in alien universe !!! Only if they want it !!! And AVP can explain/fits so much holes in alien universe !!!
Predators exterminate snakes/xenomorphs one century ago. AVP movies (2004 -)!!!
Engineers create virus/bio weapon - black goo of them (who knows when)... David revive xenos through black goo ( Alien Covenant (2104)!!!
what ever the name of the character is (been that long since iv watched it), the line 'ur one ugly muthafucka' just didn't sit right with me
could be interesting!! There are some pretty corny lines in that film with some equally dodgy acting performances. including an awful "Get to the choppa" line haha
ok heres mine.
endless dark, stars break the darkness.
takes a moment for the camera to pan round to blah blah blah blah blah zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
