KongzillaAlien: Covenant ForumWas the planet shielded before David arrived?

Is it really so necessary to cut out all the interesting details from the film? David has already said that storms last for days, weeks, months. Wasn't it possible to add details? The interesting details about alien world! No, it's better to burn screen time on annoying Tennessee instead! [sacrasm]After all, his hysteria aboard the Covenant undoubtedly looks more attractive to viewers than information about an alien world[/sarcasm].

S.MAlien: Covenant ForumWas the planet shielded before David arrived?

Earlier scripts had a planetary shield that Covenant had to destroy.

In the film David says the storms shield the whole planet - sometimes for months at a time.  If they were scanning while the planet was shielded - they'd miss it.

KongzillaAlien: Covenant ForumEngineer head in Prometheus and the statues on Easter Island

Did you know that the inhabitants of Easter Island ruined the ecology of their island, destroying all the trees for the construction of these statues?

A great cultural heritage is often inseparable from madness. I think androids would be more sane. xDDD

Can we find parallels here with the engineers who, in their pride (or worship), destroyed their own world?

Roger G:

Maybe the Engineers have developed in different ways like humanity? We started in one place and share most of the genes but developed in a different way so people around the world look different depending on genetics and maybe the Engineers are the same? This could mean that there are different kinds on different planets. At the same time the smaller Engineers maybe created the big ones to be guards and the big ones left because of something (maybe a disagreement of some sort).

You had one Engineer on LV-223 and some on Planet 4, maybe they are more spread out than that? Mankind can go to the moon and if we accept that the Engineers are more advanced then they might have spread to different places like a super-advanced version of the colonization in AC. I totally understand why you're wondering about that but this could be a possible explanation.

Hox is right that we don't know that much about the Engineers. Prometheus scratched the surface while Alien Covenant got rid of them except for that short scene. It was a pity how they treated them in Alien Covenant. They should have been given more screen-time, maybe it was the studio effing up again.

Setaverde:

I hope that it's not how the Xeno was supposed to become bio-mechanical (infecting David) because that would be so lame even though I understand the idea. Unfortunately it could be possible that it's how Ridley would have done it if it would've been up to him. Giving the android an even bigger role would be stupid, if we look at RBW being a bit like the next prequel would've been partially. The guys in robes at 4:15 look like they could be like Engineers, like those wearing robes in Prometheus (cut scene). 4:15 is my favorite part of the whole clip, it looks very mysterious and therefore interesting. Actually the robe people remind me a bit of the emperor from Star Wars.

I have a somewhat dumb idea, what if the Engineers captured David, used their earlier version of the Xeno so they won't bother with his creation. Impregnated David with, it gets bio-mechanical and they mass-produce it. He could have a role but isn't the creator of the final monster. To me this seems better compared to what Alien Covenant suggested and also like a middle-finger to David. Maybe they use another metal for it to become that way, something that is only on some planets that they control. Like Janek said they wouldn't create that thing on their home-planet.

Hi, it's good to have you back. The more people that participate in this forum the better. We might not agree about everything but that's just fine. I think that it's important to be able to handle criticism.

To critisize something isn't the same as being mean, it can be done in different ways. Just because I say that I don't agree with you doesn't mean that I dislike you as a person. People should be able to separate those two things, otherwise you can't be on any message-board. Just to take an easy example that I think that you can relate to there are six canonical alien-movies and the AVP’s if we include them. Eight movies in the franchise, it would be strange if everyone would like everything.

Keep in mind also that there were also the shorts, they were of various quality and people probably have their likes and dislikes among them. When I say that I'm not really a fan of let's say Alien Covenant, or Raised By Wolves, that isn't me saying that I have something personal against you. My point is that I can say that Alien Covenant is boring without you then getting upset, and me for example when someone says that Alien 3 (which I really like) is garbage. Someone might not like Alien 3, but I'm fine with that, it's about allowing different opinions without calling each-other idiots or what ever.

Welcome back, stick around. If I have written something that comes off as hostile and negative towards a person then maybe I need to think about how I write things. Personally I'm here to discuss the franchise, I'm not here to be mean towards anyone.

The planet was not shielded from bombardment. David’s bombs got through just fine.

It’s entirely possible that Engineer technology can shield a planet from long range prying eyes. Why not. It would answer the question as to how the company missed it on its long range scans.

The juggernaut is built using advanced alien technology. It doesn’t have to worry about trifling matters such as atmosphere getting in its way. By the way, it was not FTL inside the atmosphere. If it had been, it would have disappeared in about 10 microseconds. 1/4000th of a frame of video.

We don’t know much about Engineer society. It’s possible that they have various castes and ethnicity scattered about the Galaxy.

Alien brothers and sisters,

Thank you for your kindness and concerns, I was deeply moved.

Some days are worse than others, however there is no excuse for SuperAlien to behave in such a pathetic manner.

Believe you me, I am here to stay and we better move on to the more interesting threads.

I wonder how with such budget Covenant had so many failures, what about Prometheus Engineers? Who are they? Because they do not resemble or have any corporal similarity to that bombed population.

Perspective is really good! It's just matter of fact survival sort of how Ash described. I will need to re read a part because I wasn't quite sure what was being described- but that's also  what makes it interesting to figure out. These vignettes are fun to read- thanks!

It might also be possible the planet was never exposed to the pathogen before and thus was unable to hold it off. Whomever designed and created it (the shield) din't know or expect a pathogen bombardment.

ALIEN: Manticore's sequel will be 'almost the last' we see of The Alien...Big Chap has a ticket to Turks & Cacos for a LONG deserved vacation. :D

...that doesn't mean it's GONE.

And also, yes, it's a BIG universe out there...and maybe The Alien was merely the 'intro' to grander horrors and thought-provokers?

I, like everyone else, has zero control over what The Industry does...but I can and will pursue Ideas that hopefully make the Waiting easier for the Fandom and preserve The essence of the franchise...which is about so much more than one interesting life form.

The Engineers;
Perhaps and likely they had rivals...enemies, perhaps even usurpers, creations akin to Humanity who challenged them for supremacy?

Other Civilizations;
Perhaps the Engineers encountered others not born of their works and decided to annihilate them as they were 'outside the plan'...essentially pruning out 'weeds'.

Nature;
Is capable of things absolutely unimaginable...so there's worlds out there with 100% Naturally Horror-story ecosystems and biospheres.

Humanity;
"I think it's time we went from making better worlds to making better people." Is something that might be heard in a W-Y or other corporate boardroom...and if you think David's tinkering is scary, imagine what an interstellar conglomerate is capable of.

The story of ALIEN is barely begun...

Ridley must have been smoking when he dreamt up that idea! I'm so glad it never happened. It would have demeaned the Alien and made it far less enigmatic. The enigma is part of the terror.

I can only hope that David's foray into genetic engineering is a child's way of tampering with the ultimate creation horror. He's messed about with the box of fireworks, but he didn't truly make it. He found it and messed about with a bit of chemistry.

If I had my way, we'd have a movie that looks utterly Giger-esque that brings us the full story of the Engineers, and the back story of where they got the black goo technology. There's a much bigger story to be told.

I'm back!

Apologies if I offended anyone, blame it on my acid blood.

If we are kind, it would be a kind world.

But we are not kind enough and the good things do not happen.

I cannot watch Raised by Wolves yet, but I watch Man in the High Castle, another series produced by Scott Free. It would be just fine to have access to parallel worlds, one where the sequel to Alien Covenant would happen, I would happily live in that world than here where things are stuck.

Would you make another ‘Alien’ movie?
In a heartbeat. I loved working with Ridley and I loved playing that part. I hope we can! I would love it! I hope she’s still alive! (Katherine Waterstone)

I hope to see you again, Daniels!

"One of my goals with ALIEN: Manticore and it's sequel is to give The Alien back it's mystique, it's Majeur, it's Power, Mojo and Insidious Appeal"

I think its always Interesting to WONDER as to WHAT it would have been LIKE had say Ridley Scott had got to make ALIEN 2 i think it would have been MUCH different to ALIENS.

I think we have to WONDER to WHY and WHERE it would have been that RS had taken ALIEN if he had done the ONE ENDING he wanted.

Where the Xenomorph would Survive and Mimic Ripley to LURE more Humans in, while that may NOT have been the BEST it shows that RS had more of a Future planned for the Xenomorph than just being Invasive Space Termites.

Instead of a Space Bug, we may have seen the Xenomorph be more like David lol....  a Xenomorph with Davids Agenda and how Disturbing David was... could be something Horrific.

"Alien V could work as long as they won't involve anything that is connected to Ripley"

Totally Agree, by Virtue of the Prequels the Franchise is OPENED UP to Beyond the Confines of the Zeta 2 System.

This Topic was trying to look at what could be meant by the ALIEN V Project that Walter Hill and David Giler are working on.  Certainly seems to be about RIPLEY and Certainly would see some MOVIES are going to be SHOWN to have ONLY been Dreams.

with David and Walter (Producers) their Focus seemed to be more on the Conspiracy/Agenda of the Companies who WISH to obtain the Xenomorph and A.I  it will be Interesting to Discovery what is the FOCUS of their ALIEN V Project.

But the Tag Line "In Space No One Can Hear you Dream" seems to be a Good Indication of the Focus.

I just am NOT sure HOW they going to Pull this Off if we are going to have Quite a LOT of Screen Time with Ripley.

So she will be ALIVE... but then its HOW do they get around that she would be like 30+ Years Older than she was in the Franchise.  It surely could not be PUT DOWN to she has Aged that Much while in Cryo-sleep as we have to ASSUME that while in Cryo-sleep then your Body Ages at a MUCH LOWER RATE.

Lets HOPE they dont go FULL MATRIX!

The Xenomorph has Captured Ripley, she is Cocooned for some Purpose, and the Xenomorph has Implanted a False Life/Memory and Dreams in HER...

Does she AWAKEN to be in some kind of ALIEN like Labyrinth?  Or in a Weyland-Yutani Lab?

Or a Mental Institute?

The Question comes down to WHAT are they going to do with a NEW ALIEN Franchise?

I think the Pickle with the Prequels is that it SEEMED to Steer Away from ALIEN for the Fans, and come down to more about Certain THEMES which we see as a Continuation with David.. and having HIM go and Create the Xenomorph while it FITS those THEMES.  It just is NOT as ALIEN as the Origins we could have IMAGINED before we got the Prequels and we would NOT have Imagined the Prequels to be about Creation/Rebellion Themes that some MAY FEEL should have been KEPT to say Blade Runner.

I doubt this ALIEN V would be much about those THEMES, well i dont think it would be much Connected it at ALL to the Prequels.

so its OK and WHAT do they think the ALIEN Franchise would NEED AGAIN?

It seems that is RIPLEY.... and then WHAT?

We have to ASSUME it will be the Xenomorph again, but i AGREE 100% with Ridley Scott on this, there would be ONLY so much Egg Laying, Face Raping, Chest Bursting and Snarling that you can do..... BEFORE it gets Stale, Cooked or a Joke!

You would have to EVOLVE it, Change either it Aesthetically a Bit, what it can DO, or Uplift them Beyond basically being Space Ants/Termites/Rodents.

Or you look into WHAT it is that the Company can Finally do when they OBTAIN a Specimen beyond seeing it GET OUT OF CONTROL ;)

The Prequels gave the Franchise more LEGS to Stand On and more to Explore, but it was NOT really Executed to the Potential (thanks to AC in Part).  If the Prequels are to be IGNORED then its a CASE of what can they do more than give us Eggs and Xenomorphs.

Because the Xenomorph on its OWN only has TWO Legs and well its maybe come down to Standing on its LAST LEG!

I already gave my TWO CENTS on this HERE

Basically i think it was OK that we had Subjects on this Forum in regards to RBW, as it was a bit more Relevant to the kind of Sci-Fi that some ALIEN Fans would go and WATCH, but i also AGREE that it Needed its OWN part of the SITE as having 1-2 Subjects on the Matter is Fine, but if there becomes Many then it could CLOG UP the ALIEN Forums with None-Related Subjects.

I think Certainly if down the LINE we become more of a Police State where there are Cameras like everywhere, where there are EYES IN THE SKY and dont Forget our Computers, Smart Phones/Tablets etc.

Who knows what LEVEL of such Tracking is our there in 10-20 Years, it surely as you Pointed Out would have FAR MORE Powerful Computers by then, that could Pin Point and Track you down EASY.

For those in POWER they could USE these Tools to their Advantage and Control.... it could be  a TOOL to our Downfall if EVER we saw that A.I becomes Sentient though!

The requested Vigenette having to do with being told from the P.O.V. of The Alien is done, it's in first-draft form now, only needs editing and a final proofing, then you'll all be able to have a peek at the universe as it experiences life. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed the insights into my mind and approach as well as my upcoming work! :)

I will try to make this as coherent as I can, I am having some issues with that tonight...it comes and goes, courtesy of Enemy actions.
IF I miss, or am unclear, on any point, please bring it to my attention/ask clarification, ok? :)

I want to sincerely and appreciatively Thank-You again for your compliments and would like to assure you that I am indeed striking out on my own...but the realms I will be writing in still require further development and refining before I can 'break ground'.

Suspension of disbelief and modern science...you nailed it. YES, modern science makes writing sci-fi something of a challenge...
But, challenges are meant to be faced and contested against...perhaps beaten. ;)

Ah, okay, now I understand what you meant about 'gods' and such...the overarching power of the networks we entrust more and more of our lives to.
Some will love it...others will leave for other worlds when they get the chance. But, there's always...ALWAYS the probability that an Organicallt Spawned Machine Consciousness is alive in the internet right now...and in time, it might choose to reveal itself, if it thinks it can trust us.

Think of each computer, no matter how small, that's Connected as akin to a synapse...
...now, how many synapses are in a human brain? Now...how many 'synapses' are composing the internet right now, and more added daily? ;)
It's very likely it's already out there...learning about itself, and us, and the greater universe...learning about it all.

The state, surveillance and 'Ghosts'.
Hubby has a friend...he doesn't exist. He was declared dead 20 years ago, and exists without any connection to all the nonsense we take for granted.
Cryptocurrency of course made life much easier for him, but collecting recyclables and selling them for cash is trackless...that's a tiny insight into how he lives entirely outside the system, yet not homeless, in the middle of one of the biggest cities on the planet. :D

I deal with 'god' like tech networks and such on an as-needed basis.
EG;
1; Some worlds won't have anything to do with insanely overdeveloped and powerful planetary infonetworks such as Shadowfall.
2; Others just cannot afford it, too busy with keeping up the Necessities like life support.
3; Ship computers like the ones in ALIEN are a challenge...if they can make androids like David, Ash, Walter and Bishop...then imagine what a ship computer is capable of.
SO, it's handled by 'settings'...some crews have the computer run everything, they're just along to get paid as 'organic oversight' if needed.
Manticore, Sin and the crew prefer being kept completely in-the-loop as AI isn't all that good at Intuitive Leaps and the strictly Organic advantages us fleshlings still have over the Machines.
4; God-like infonetworks don't mean a lot when you're fifty+ light years from the edge of charted space on an unknown world.
5; WW3...Cascade EMP weapons, physical destruction and devastation of infrastructure cuts out a lot of the 'god' power in things.
I have one world where 2077 is very much like 1967 in terms of predominant tech. Phones booths and payphones are everywhere again, internet is 56K tops...flatscreens exist, so do cellphones...but 5g has gone the way of the dinosaur.

It all depends on which Realm I am playing in really. 'God' tech power infonetworks and such don't fit everywhere, and there's ways and reasons why they cannot exist or no longer exist in any given realm...but others absolutely NEED them, of course as the inverse is true.

I think I covered everything...if anything was unclear, or you have any more questions, please ask!! :D

Thank-you, all of you!! :D

@SuperAlien - I mean, i'm working on getting Raised by Wolves a proper sub-site here, I really like RBW and am active on the reddit so no idea why you would think I have anything against the series or Ridley Scott. I'm a fan of both...

I'm an admin here, I have to do admin things sometimes and moving posts to the appropriate places is part of the job. I'm in the process of moving every RBW thread to here and have explained why on each of them, i've also requested people post any future RBW material to the proper forum from now on (Currently it's SciFi Television). This move has nothing to do with you or RBW, it's a simple logistical choice.

Like I said, if there is enough interest in this series here I will be working on getting a proper Raised By Wolves subsite, Scified Television is where it should be for now, it doesn't belong in any other site as it is it's own series and that helps with searches when people want to look up the series.

Anyways, i'm sorry you're upset and hope you return.

BWW,

That is awesome.

Those are much different answers than what I was expecting.

RBW has left a minor indentation, nothing that cannot be buffed out....forgettable stuff real fast.

What is not forgettable though is the time I think we all invest in each others craft...some of us are better at writing like yourself....I read a few pages and was immediately impressed with your craft. All the right things were there. Although why you did not strike out on your own claim I do not know.

I think you are very talented. For lack of a more straight forward way to say this though I think originality is always more important.

I know I am most certainly not an author / a screen play writer definately...but originality is not something I need.

I have read hundreds of Sci-fi books and I like/liked various authors for immature reasons at different periods in my life...because hey why not. Things are new and interesting when you read it for the first time. As times goes by though you get to the 20th PKD novel and you straight away just want to know how paranoid it will all be and who is it effecting. PKD is all about cause and effect.

But that still does not answer my question about you and god / gods in your works. Please let me explain.

Without making this too long for all the other readers I would like to get right to the most important thing. Suspension of disbelief. I think it was easier to write about science fiction years ago because so much in science was more about everything from early 1930's physics. That is not the case anymore....grad students regularly test the speed of light in labs across the globe so the technology is so much more advanced - far more advanced than anyone realizes.

We are really pushing the boundaries of real AI right now....in this decade it become a real thing. I have no idea what that means....but the singularity is very real for me and that is a GOD LIKE BEING.....much smarter than all of mankind....Much more powerful than all of mankind.

This is just the computing aspect of things of course there are many other instances where essentially the servers are so leveraged they display GOD LIKE powers in minute ways right now.

So that is why I asked the question or maybe I should have asked the question in a different way....what do you see all of us doing with these kind powers that are very different from the rest of the 20th century and what might it mean in day to day lives?

Here is another example and you do not have to look too far to see things like this.....you can drag a picture into google images and it will differentiate it from billions of other entirely different pictures in a few hundreds of a single second. For me that is a god like power! If everyone's face were in that system it could track you where ever you go as long as there are enough cameras around.

GOD LIKE POWER RIGHT.....you know PKD was always paranoid about the state / government watching his every move....always wondered what he would have thought about a search engine company with GOD LIKE power like that.....wonder what the governments are really using it for.....

But I digress....I was just interested to know how some of these kinds of themes are being incorporated into your sci-fiction writing....how you are dealing with suspension of disbelief where we are already in an age with GOD LIKE POWERS.....or maybe you are not? Or maybe it's a secret and you cannot say cause you are still working on it...figuring it out as go through the creative process.

What ever the case may be BWW I think we all find it fascinating to understand more about creative talented writers like yourself and how you flesh out your creations.

Long-Term goals? Screenwriter, no thanks. Very Famous...again, no thanks. If I get to the level of Larry Niven, Ray Bradbury, I'll be ecstatic and will have reached my preferred degree of notoriety.

'Valhalla'?? (Please forgive and overlook memory-slips, they're a current side-issue due to The Enemy's actions)
If you mean the workpiece I am playing with regarding my take on RBW, yes I can:

Sometime In The Future To Come...

Humanity has absolutely annihilated it's civilization.

Out of a population across many star systems of over a Trillion beings remains approximately 100,000 humans...though they can be called 'human' only by scientific classification in a zoological index.

They are divided into Bands, they are 'scavvers'...the remnant savage dregs of humanity's once prosperous species possessing still-workable technology...think Reavers and Mad Max raider-types.
But, they are not the future for the door of history is closing on them and they know it.
They are facing increasing infertility rates, more and more...they have at most, a century before they are Extinct.
Then there's the The Pride and the Human children the Alpha-Mother brought forth from herself. Only 13 of them, but they were all conceived of Optimized Natural Human Genetic Material. Carried to term in a Chimeran Artemis's womb, birthed naturally, each one of them.
The Children are a prize the scavvers want and need in absolute desperation...for in those children is their only hope of survival.

How's that for a teaser? :)

The God/gods are silent, Humanity--any thinking being--must contend vs. the universe without divine assistance.
The God/Gods do not enter my works, however religion will be shown for the cataclysmically divisive and devastating force that it is...an atavism that needs to be outgrown and left behind.
RBW addresses this, most do not, so I will be involving it as given the antagonists I've created, I really have no choice really.
RS and others have the 'god' thing all wrapped up so I won't waste time of my audience addressing such. Also, I doubt I am qualified for theological philosophizing.

Green tea, triple strong, just barely enough sugar to balance the bitterness. :)

In time I'll binge RBW...but for now I keep a stand-off to keep my ideas un-influenced by it as much as I can.

RBW deserved it's own space, as whether people like it or not, it needs to be given the respect of having it's Own Space, right?

Please don't leave over this!!

You're one of the best contributors here, and I hope you can see that RBW is so VERY much it's Own and Unique Thing that it pretty much screamed like a Necromancer for it's own space instead of being kedged in here amongst ALIEN related stuff that overshadows it.

Whether people love it or hate it, it has Power, and it's getting Respect even from those who dislike it.

So much drama over RbW. First @Blackwinter-witch, now @SuperAlien. The question arises - who will be next? It seems that RbW has not brought anything of value to our humble community. Rather, on the contrary, it had a destructive effect.

It looks like we need to get back on the path of the Alien and the androids from our main universe. And do not fall under the bad influence of RbW. Until our community disintegrated in the confusing messages of another franchise.

What are your long term goals as a science fiction author?

If you could wave a magic wand would you rather be a very successful screen writer or a very famous author? Maybe both?

Can you give hints on your upcoming work involving "Valhalla"? I think any of the arcane mythos will work a reference to what ever you have weaved into a new plot?

What has you interested in God, or the Gods in general in your work? Are you exploring this for personal reasons or is there more you would like to share in general?

And what is your favorite morning beverage to start the day with? LOL

Oh I think this is where I have to say something about RBW....ummmmmmmmmmm ohhhhh sorry I just cannot say anything nice about that show....my fast forward key on the computer almost got broken. The acting on the old very first Star Trek shows was better....but!!! some of the sets on RBW are sure pretty to look at - they sure have come a long way with those green screens.
