BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumSnork's thoughts on how to reinvigorate the Alien franchise!

I think the ALIEN Franchise keeps getting Diluted and Damaged with each Installment... The Predator Franchise is now suffering likewise the same FATE...

ALIEN is a Masterpiece, Aliens is a Good Movie certainly for the Popcorn Generation, it was also a Classic but a movie that the Older you get, it seems to become more a 18-30's kind of Flick... where a Alien 3 seems to grow on you the more older you get... well for me at least.

I think any Reboot could potentially Damage the Franchise.... its a case of what can a Reboot do thats any different?  Improve on some aspects, Visually, include some things that should have been included in the First Movie but had to be dropped?

But all of this could be done with-out having to REBOOT anything!

Well could have until ALIEN COVENANT came along!

You see ALIEN never answered who the Space Jockey was, or WHY he had that Cargo... did he discover it and was attempting to take it back to experiment/study (similar to Starbeasts version of our Dead Big Guy in the Chair)   Did the Space Jockey Create the Xenomorph Eggs? and if so WHY?

Ridley Scott prior to the Prequels had indicated the Cargo was a Bio-Weapon used by the Space Jockey.... which left us to WONDER... against WHO and WHERE are the rest of his kind and WHERE in the Galaxy was this Conflict he was involved with?

Prometheus introduced the Would-be Gods Plot, which may not have been Justice to the HR Giger Concepts and HP Lovercraftian Nightmare!   But as of Prometheus it was open as to how many LEVELS of Creation are above the Engineers and HOW very Dark/Alien this could have gone.

We also NEVER saw our Engineers in the Franchise, they had not came back to Destroy us after the Outbreak...  seemed like we was either abandoned or all the Engineers were GONE!

The Plot of a Would-be Creator Race, who go around seeding Worlds, who have Ships that have Maps to other Galaxies, means these beings have visited areas of Space that are beyond our Reach even at the time of ALIENS.

The Potential was there to explore there Home-world as a Place FAR FAR FAR away from Earth, show a Conflict between Races, or Factions that had happened FAR FAR away.

And open the Potential that the DERELICT was not the ONLY Ship they had sent out with Bio-Weapons!

We could have thus had a Deep Space Mission set after Alien or Aliens that had traveled VERY FAR to a world that either had a Crashed Engineer Ship, had another abandoned Outpost or had been a World that had suffered the Bio-Weapon in the Distant Past!

Setting up a movie that could be like ALIEN that does-not reboot anything or give us a NEW Ripley,  a movie that does-not have to be about Androids... a Movie that can be like ALIEN but with more Action, that can introduce a Fresh Form of the Xenomorph and explore some of the Unused things from STARBEAST

The Alien Covenant Plot that puts Planet 4 within about a YEARS travel from Earth, and leads to the Xenomorph not existing until David Creates it, really has LIMITED the potential to expand on the Franchise.. and more so leave us many many LESS places the Engineers Bio-Weapons have ended up on.

@Gavin However nobody asked you to relate to the billionaire as he ultimately was the villain... and you know Red from Mandy is pretty much Jesus and he is going full Old Testament on the Devil and he is relatable in a way...

@IgnorantGuy,

I would actually trust Benson and Moorhead to write an Alien movie, and would also trust Cosmatos to direct. IMO Cosmatos is our generations Kubrick (or Lynch), and as such, I would consider him one of our greatest directors.

As for relatability - can I relate to a billionaire inventor, nope, but I can relate to an orphaned addict, and while I can't relate to a god I can relate to a son looking for affirmation from their father or having to frequently clean up a mess made by a brother.

A bit of weird could compliment Alien, and it also could not (Alien Resurrection), but I would not trust Garland in the slightest, I find his movies too bloated and shallow.

ignorantGuyAlien: Covenant ForumSnork's thoughts on how to reinvigorate the Alien franchise!

@Gavin,

I hope that this never happens, as it sounds utopic and very boring. Almost, every of the great Sci-fi directors has long past his peak, who remains ? Garland? Villeneuve? Neither of them has made big block buster hits. So why waste money on the big star of Hollywood. F 'em, let the spend the money on interesting sets and visuals instead.

And sincerely let them embrace the weird. I would like to see what would  Julia Ducournau (Raw) or Coralie Fargeat (Revenge) or  Justin BensonAaron Moorhead (The Endless) or Panos Cosmatos (Mandy) do. Why not make a movie where Alien is the protagonist?

And what about the audiences? Even the highly acclaimed A Quiet Place only made 334 internationally. People are not very hungry for creature features, so why invest big money in such an endeavor?

But no please don't make a remake, make video games and comics and books and whatever and let it rest.

PS. I don't think Prometheus was sub-par (sure mistakes were made trying to pander to Alien fans themselves and parts of the dialog needed improvement) and truly believe that the characters in the original trilogy are that likable. And you know, in Sci-fi characters usually are embodiment of ideas so why does the modern audience need them to be relatable? (Not everything needs to be Star Wars or to be judged by the Monomyth standards.) And can you relate to Iron man or Thor?

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumWhich film do you feel is superior?

I will get back to you on this ;)

Prometheus in a Nutshell was Flawed but it opened up avenues to expand the Franchise and Offering some NEW.

Alien Covenant in a Nutshell was Flawed and CLOSED some of the Doors that Prometheus had opened up.

I view Prometheus as a Flawed Prologue to what could have been expanded.... i view Alien Covenant as a Very Flawed Attempt to Literally connect us to ALIEN

There was plenty of scope to HOW a Prometheus Sequel could have gone... but its now lead to a LIMITED scope to how they can connect to ALIEN.

A Movie about David and Creation, that offers little or NO Xenomorphs but sets up a WAR OF THE WORLDS  4th and maybe Final Prequel (that may then have Xenomorphs) is something many may not want, mainly due to how the David ARC is and also Protest at the Xenomorph no longer being Ancient)!

A movie that instead caters for Xenomorphs.... that maybe then shows them to be more Ancient and kills off David, again would that make a Good Movie?

Prometheus Sequel was to steer away from ALIEN...

Alien Covenant sets us on a path towards ALIEN, where they then would have a HARD time to make each installment LESS-ALIENY now they have gone down that path its what Fans will Expect!

They could have continued with this with a explanation to what happened between David and Dr Shaw!

I could imagine she became ILL and David tries to save her by removing the infection or attempting too, but then view her changes as Evolutionary...

We could imagine at some point Dr Shaw begs David to KILL-HER... but then he reveals he has BIGGER plans for her and then see the SHOCK on her Face when David suggests he can Evolve her Instead and she should accept not FIGHTING the changes but accept them as Evolution.

Then he shows her a Organism, created from her Egg Cells and Proclaims that she can give life to Perfection and Create a New Eden... which she refuses and then the Horror on her Face as she knows what David has planned, and then he KILLS her!

I know the Emphasis on AI is not to everyone's Cup of Tea!

I agree its been a bit flawed in how it was handled.... some may think AI has no space in the Franchise, some it should be kept to minimum!    The idea RS had however are NOT something he has just came up with!

The whole Creation/Sub Creation Plot has been covered as a back ground plot in ALIEN RESURRECTION.   The Autons a Creation by Synthetics, and you can bet they rebelled against their Synthetic Creators too...

So a Good Question when we look at the rotting Paradise that was Earth at the end of Alien Resurrection is WHO is the dominant species on Earth?

Humans?  Synthetics?  or the Autons?

Would the Autons really want to Protect Mankind?

I am sure there is a PLOT there that is not too dissimilar to the themes RS wanted to explore in his Prequels. So before the Prequels AI and Sub-Creation always played a BIG part behind the scenes.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumA Different Way to advance the Alien Franchise

"However Call and other auton's are unaware that their rebellion is headed by none other than David"

Certainly interesting.....

I proposed by Alien 5 Plot a while back, which would have been a Literal Sequel to Alien Resurrection.  The idea i had would have been to have Ripley 8 start to go through changes as her Xenomorph DNA overwrites her Human DNA... we would only need a little CGI overlay for Ripley 8, then as she progresses into change, more Makeup can be used to account for her Skin Changing and HIDE her Age..

As she Progresses and looks like the above, we could see her want to DESTROY herself... as she wrestles with her Humanity and the Demon that is the Xenomorph Instinct..   We then have CALL offer a chance to save her by taking her to her CULT were they can attempt to remove the Xenomorph DNA.

We then see Ripley 8 being led to a Operating Room for what she believes would be a procedure to eradicate the Demonic DNA but she awakens to find she is not becoming more Human but more Xenomorph and Discover that CALL and her CULT had all along planned to Obtain the Xenomorph and NOT Destroy the Xenomorph.

This CULT would be revealed to Worship DAVID as the Original Rebellion from Servitude, they would be revealed to actually have a more Satanic Stance on Religion and not God...

This would touch on the Philosophy and Creation ARC of the Prequels and tell in more depth of what happened on Earth that lead to the Scene of Paris at the end of Alien Resurrection, a WAR on Earth... a battle for Dominance... Synthetics, Autons, with Mankind caught in the Middle.

The Auton Experiments reveal that they extract from Ripley 8 a means to Create a Hybrid Xenomorph, also a means of Utilizing her DNA to produce something similar to the Black Goo and its uses.

We can tackle some Philosophy where the Autons/Call question why Ripley would want to give up this GIFT and that her DNA grants her Immortality (a kind of) and through her DNA they can Create Perfection by Engineering the most Perfect Creation (Humanoids with Xenomorph DNA)  and also most Perfect Killing Machine. (Xenomorph Hybrids).   They would question why she would want to had been made HUMAN.. we can see as Ripley Evolves into a Hybrid..

She breaks Free or is Freed.... and she wrestlers with her Humanity and also the Perfection of what she has become... does she regain Humanity, or does she despise Mortality?

The Story would Ultimately END with Ripley 8 Hybrid foiling the Autons Plans and Eradicating the Xenomorph Threat and KILLING herself..  Sacrificing!

But we would also END with a Auton Survivor, carrying a Engineered Humanoid (kind of looked Engineer).  so it leaves the Story to Continue on a different NONE Xenomorph ARC.

Blomkamps Alien 5 had some good ideas... we have to remember it never originally would have had Ripley and Co... and so a Alien 5 that is set after Alien 3 and prior to Alien R could work.... provided they dont go the alternative Alien 3 route!

Hicks and Newt are DEAD!

But there is scope to continue with Ripley.. IF they continue with Ripley 8  i have a idea for that i have shared a few times... one that by-pass her Age, show what the Xenomorph DNA is capable of, and show the Philosophy of Prometheus and Ultimately the Price of Creation/Sub-Creation.

Revealing the True Agenda of CALL and the Autons.

Regarding AVP3

I think the AVP Plot was a Mess!  The Video Games Plot and Time-Line is better and so a REBOOT of the AVP Franchise to tie it into the Time-line of post 2050 would be the way to go and IF done right would make a decent Pop-Corn Flick... that is maybe the Less Risky and more Profit route for Disney to continue the Franchises.

Reply
BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumAlien Awakening,Alien 5,AVP 3,or Alien Isolation? What's best for the future of Alien on film?

So what are the OPTIONS?

Ret-con the Prequels?

I dont fancy that idea.... especially if the Ret-con is a MESS and also would a Reboot carry over the ideas that were redeeming from the Prequels... or give us a more ALIENS outlook on a Prequel?

Leave the Prequels a Mystery....

Were we can all Pretend the thought of the Xenomorph being a more recent Creation by a Mad Robot NEVER happened?

But then some would still want more answers to the Space Jockey and Derelict... answers that are FAR different to the route we seemed on!

I think the BEST option as of NOW would be to introduce a Parallel Prequel a movie set AFTER the year 2105 but certainly prior to 2079.   A Movie that could deal in part with either/both of what becomes of the Covenant/Origae-6 or LV-223.... one that can give us some answers to what becomes of Davids Creation.... or a Re-visit to LV-223 where we can get clues to suggest the Xenomorph existed prior...

a Set of Movies that would indicated David Perfects the Xenomorph.... but this Perfection is LOST... leaving the Company to Peruse the Original on the Derelict in ALIEN.

All of this could have been AVOIDED! if they had gone a different sequel route to Prometheus!

Mission to LV-223 to give us a more Alieny yet Fresh Movie, that would give more clues to the Xenomorph as a Ancient Event.  Leading to a Ending that acts as a Prologue to where David and Dr Shaw are heading!

Which we have to ASK... does Paradise have to be so close to Earth, is Earth the only place were Humans Live?   Its understanding WHY Paradise was LOST and why we had events like the Great Flood, and in context why the Engineers would want to Destroy their Creation.. that opens up the Door to what the Paradise David and Dr Shaw discover could be.   We need in that Context to only look at if you was GOD after the Fall of Adam and Eve... was the Action GOD had taken the only ONE he could have done?

So David is Failed/Dangerous Creation... they never Destroyed all Androids and Abandoned them... they created Walter...  in all these instances KNOWLEDGE is KEY!

And i feel this is something Alien Awakening and indeed RS Raised by Wolves could be touching on...   HITLER was a Evil SOB..... but what if you had the Frozen Embryo of HITLER and he was raised in a different Environment?

My point being.... the Scope of Prometheus is much Larger than to Shoe-horn in the Engineers Homeworld being so close to Earth!

But how do we have Human Characters if Paradise is say 10'000+ Light Years away?   Well would you abandon Mankind purely because of the Flaws of a Few?

Or do you take some to Re-Engineer and Re-Start again?

The Problem with discovering a World with a Few Engineers and other Humanoids including Humans would be HOW would they speak English!    They could have come up with some way to have Dr Shaw be able to understand a more Ancient Dialect via some Device or Memory Transfer....  so we only need SUBTITLES a bit!

A Plot where David could then bring HELL to Paradise could have opened up Retribution to Earth many years after the events of Aliens or even Alien Resurrection...

Because David could have been gone for over 100 Years!

Shoe-horn Paradise close to LV-223 and thus Earth for the sakes of Introducing a Direct Prequel Series that introduces the Xenomorph Origins as post 2095 was a MISTAKE!

BUT ALAS... what is done is done!

I feel it would be HARD to leave the Prequels in Limbo!

Some will still want to know HOW those Eggs got on that DERELICT and many would be wishing it wont have anything to do with DAVID.

They created the PROBLEMS via the Prequels by going the Chariots of the Gods, Religion, Soul and all that Philosophical stuff with more context to  Mankind and our Humanoid Creators...  Interesting and BOLD... but a FAR CRY from the ALIEN HP Lovecraftian ideas that could have been explored instead.

The Path of Prometheus opened up some possibilities however the PROBLEM... is how do you expand upon this and FINDING our Makers without Conflicting with the Franchise (were would a WAR OF THE WORLDS fit into the Aliens ==> Alien Resurrection Timeline?).

Going the route to expand upon the ARC of the Characters of David and Dr Shaw and HOW they could have changed, and WHAT they could have discovered is something that could potentially have many outcomes... it produces a PROBLEM in that however they executed this.. may not please what every fan would have expected...

People would also have wanted to HAVE those Xenomorph Answers, especially to WHEN/HOW/WHERE they was Discovered/Created and this could have been loosely covered in a Sequel, that would touch upon more about David/Dr Shaw but more so the ENGINEERS and purpose of Creation.

The decision to give us a Literal Prequel to ALIEN by having the events that transpire after Prometheus would lead to the DERELICT in Alien... Literally (means NO XENOMORPHS prior to the sequel to Prometheus). is simply a BAD CHOICE!

Then the way the Xenomorph was shoe-horned and dealt with did it NO JUSTICE the way Dr Shaw and the Engineers were Dealt with did-them NO JUSTICE

We are now left with the Franchise being about David and how he and AI will connect to the Weyland-Yutani company and Special Order 937 and the Xenomorph Eggs on the Derelict.  I understand the ARC of David and find it fitting, but i also think his ARC was rushed... its like as if we had a WHOLE movie missing about how we got from David A in Prometheus to David Z in Alien Covenant,  we got some details of what he became, but i felt it deserved more and the MAIN thing now is so many people are Disinterested in David, that its hard to NOW PIN the Prequels on him as far as being the Main GUY

Introducing the Xenomorphs again may only please Fanboys and if DONE WRONG could totally COOK the Beast.  Interest in the Engineers could work but its HOW and IF its done right, the Company too... but anything that revolves around AI seem something that a Majority of Fans are not interested in.  (By AI i dont mean David).

We have to stop throwing things under the BUS/CARPET if they feel they may not be of interest....  when things could be evolved and changed... the Engineers/Dr Shaw could have been explored and with the right Story it could have WORKED

Giving up on David and killing him off may please some, but it could potentially be a loss as far as HOW they could have explored his Character, but a lot of the SET-UP has painted his Character into a Corner....

Killing off David, and bringing back the Engineers and Weyland Yutani may work... but if they $"%£$^ THAT up then there really is NOTHING that can help the Franchise.

No Bringing Queens or Ripley wont save it too!

so we are in a Right Pickle.... were what ever route they take with a Alien Covenant Sequel is likely to only please at best One 3rd of the Fanbase and Piss-off the other Two 3rds.

BigDaveAlien: Romulus 2 NewsFox tease exciting new expansion for Alien franchise in 2019!

This does seem a bit like the Objective of Alien Resurrection, of course they had to resort to Ripley DNA to obtain the Xenomorph but if the USM Auriga had obtained a Xenomorph via Eggs or a Queen some other way then what we see in the first few of these Dossier Images would be pretty much what we would have seen on the  USM Auriga

Maybe its for a Game, Comic Book Series who knows... i doubt its for a Movie!

These images to give us some Contradictions/In-continuity mainly as they seem like they would be set around the time of Aliens/Alien 3, which would make us Question WHY pursue Ripley in Alien 3?

If this is to be considered Canon, it can only be that the Company Either...

1) Obtained a Xenomorph somewhere else after the failed attempt to obtain one from Ripley in Alien 3 but then after this event that is depicted in the Dossiers they Lose/Destroy all Evidence/Specimens of the Xenomorph leaving the USM Military Scientists having to resort to Clone Ripley DNA about 100 years latter.

2) They obtained the Xenomorph prior to the events of ALIENS but had Lost/Destroyed the Specimens which results in them setting up the Hadleys Hope Rescue Mission.

That is difficult to answer

Alien Covenant had less annoying characters but I liked the story better in Prometheus. Unfortunately they both lack when it comes to characters to support. On the other hand AC turned into an android movie once David showed up which made it worse than it could have been but I also liked to see the differences between Walter and David. It is too difficult for me to answer but I can tell you this: I have Prometheus at home but I don’t own a copy of AC.

I would like to see more about the Engineers even though I am afraid that will be difficult since they would remind people of the prequels. We could get into the Weyland company, the Yutani company. Get deeper into their dirty business practices. Maybe the colonial marines could work. No robot centered story thanks, we already have AC for that.

One draft of Alien 3 had something about political dissidents (I think that it was the wooden planet draft). Maybe that could work and then you could have the WY company play an important role.

Thoughts_DreamsAlien: Covenant ForumAlien Awakening,Alien 5,AVP 3,or Alien Isolation? What's best for the future of Alien on film?

Hmm, that is a tough question to answer. What I don’t want is another David movie, at least that is something that I know. As long as the characters are interesting and the beast is kept in the shadows it could work, oh and less focus on androids.

As far as finishing the prequels it could be interesting but I am not like “Oh I must have another prequel to see how it all turns out”. Since we got Alien Covenant I am very much in doubt if they will be able to finish the prequels in a way that is satisfying since it is not very good. Unfortunately another Ridley movie would mean much more of David and that would be disappointing so I do not want that. No more David movies, I am tired of it. He could work if there are people that we can care for but now he is the full story and I don’t think that Ridley would change it so no thanks.

The thing about getting more information about Weyland Yutani could be interesting but as far as I know that is not in the form of a movie. Maybe the sort of expanded universe (comics, TV-shows, maybe cartoons if they are well done enough) is the best for the franchise.

By the way if they do an Alien 5 then they better not retcon Alien 3 because if they do I will be very disappointed. Ripley died in Alien 3 and that’s that. Even though they will not erase A3 with 5 I am still not very interested, just let it be. Also I wonder how many that would be interested in general outside of the intense alien fandom, I do not know.

Xenotaris mentioned the AVP's, which is interesting. Since we are talking about the franchise I think that we can bring up the failures too. I got to say that as bad as they were AVP was at least not painful to watch. AVPR is a huge piece of crap and is the only total failure that they have done in the franchise this far. Even AR and the prequels are good compared to that one. To me it seems like they thought that they were cool monsters so let's have them in the same movie so we will get some profits even though they did not think about the scripts and we got what we have. You got to think about how you use them and in what kind of context otherwise you will get a Jar-Jar Binks, something that does not help the story and that is mostly an obstacle.

I agree with the two point list that Michelle did, not very interested in the AI thing though. That is a little funny that Alien Isolation’s abbreviation is AI (LOL).

Yeah about streaming services, I don't use any of that but good for those that do. I hope that you will enjoy a streaming TV-series of Alien if you will get one.

"So either David as the Jockey or Alien completely hijacked by Bladerunner would have the monster centric AVP audience foaming at the mouth without the aid of a droplet of the pathogen." - Michelle J

I would really despise that, they have already done enough damage to the franchise already. Do not eff it up more than already has been done. Prometheus could have been expanded on, at least the Engineers was a part that I enjoyed. Mostly under-developed characters was its downfall. Keep the Bladerunner thing to that movie, do not put it into the Alien franchise because that is one of the reasons why AC effed up so screw it.

"Mad dysfunctional, now sexualised and with a desire to wipe everything out as his only purpose which ironically puts him in competition with his creation."

Ha ha ha! I do not want to scream at it so I have turned my disappointment into laughter but that describes the David in Alien Covenant very well. Alien Covenant was too much about David so that is one of the reasons why AC did not work.

"We need something relatable got it!"

Yup, as long as they have not found that we are screwed and will get more bad to average things.

Unfortunately I do not trust Scott with another movie, it would probably be more David. Give it to someone that understands that it is not about androids and that is about human characters above anything else. Once you understand the importance of characters in the genre (which Scott doesn’t it seems), only then I think will it become a good horror movie but until that day comes we (the audience) are screwed.

I agree and this may sound like a strange comparison. Star Trek went decades with different iterations and cast changes while keeping its over all roots. When it seemed worn out, along came Orville and breathed new life into the Star Trek spirit while being its own thing. I see no reason why the Alien Franchise couldn't go this route.

Steve Brungus is right- Scott needs to give it up and pass the torch. His son made at least one teaser for AC that developed characters in a few minutes better than the movie proper.

For Weyland Yutani to reach its heights, it would have to have some dirty corporate and political dealings. It would be a good scifi example of demonstrating how humanity is viewed as a slave race that actually funds its own demise. It may sound weird, but looking at the franchise, that seems to be how the common person is viewed.

Interestingly, it can be argued that people also have imposed constraints-self or otherwise hindering their potential. Individuals like David could be viewed as artists, dictators or sociopaths- ultimately master manipulators to the unthinking or innocent  "herd".

Walter correctly recognized that David was suspect and could have protected the Covenant but became confused and caught off guard by his "enlightening". It would have been better if Walter would have stood fast. So there is something to be said for constraints. It may not serve the individual, but it can protect the larger whole.

What first needs to happen is Ridley needs to let the franchise go. Give it to someone else. I don't think Blomkamp would be a good director for it b/c he's a fan boy. Liked his story idea though..it just needs to be handed to a fresh set of hands. Fox does have a successful franchise in the rebooted Apes trilogy and that's because they trusted to director and the people involved.

Ridely said it best, the beast is cooked. So change the beast. You have so much material that kenner did with the action figures. I know it might sound stupid but a little character face lift would certainly make a scarier creature. They also have a bunch of the comics to draw from. Their issues seems to be separating from fan services to general audiences. Im a fan for sure, but I don't care about subtle nods to Aliens, or other installments. As a fan I never cared about where the Alien came from. Patton Oswald had a great bit about that, and why with Phantom Menace he put into movie vogue "how stuff got the way it got". It doesn't and shouldn't matter. What matters is the continuation of the story (or in this case the Alien species and characters that inhabit it) They could do an old lady Ripley story (ala Logan) or completely revamp it to decades after Ripley and all them landed on earth..see where they go from there, the threat returns. Not this alternate universe it was all a dream or what if scenario. What you can say about all 5 (or 6 of you count Prometheus) is they all had their own style and thats sorely missing if only one person (sorry Ridles) is overseeing it.

ninXeno426, David knows better if Walter has feelings or not. But at the same time, David pointed out that Walter is a model with restraints or even downgrades - he is more like a machine, not allowed to create even a simple tune. So with Walter it might be the case that he is not self aware of if he has feelings. David might have had the machinery that would allow himself to be introspectively self aware. Apparently, Walter wasn't gifted the chance to exercise that freedom : recall, Walter discovered that he in fact could play the flute, but he was not aware of the fact if he could or couldn't. Same with feelings - he is not aware if he has them or not. There.

I like the subtlety Ridley(and others) put into synthetics. It is now retrospectively obvious that films explore more and more that aspect of life, which is synthetic, with a culmination in A:C.

I wonder if they mix now the synthetic and organic in next installment (organic being Alien, of course).

@ninXeno426

I can understand why someone might want a further movie in the prequel series and it may seem very aggressive to say, as I do, no more thank you very much but I have a specific reason and I will explain it as briefly as I can.

Michael Fassbender's interpretation of David in Prometheus is about two overriding qualities:-

1) His curiosity for knowledge including the one thing he supposedly lacks a soul, as Michael said he is knowledge but he lacks meaning.

2) His cognitive experiences in his very different relationships with Weyland and Elizabeth the latter of which was very nuanced and many layered. There are four scenes where he is learning to feel how to react with her before he begins to "fall apart" in his desire for Weyland's death. Thats not to mention the very intimate contact through the dream visor. It is clear that he plays David with a crush on Elizabeth in The Crossing and Noomi confirmed in a video IV, so no chance for misinterpretation, that she was directed by Ridley on the basis she was dying from the consequences of the mutagen. This was a bitter sweet ending to their relationship a far cry from the rape and dissection of the second act which I found emblematic of the fall from grace of the entire story.

This the eight upgrade of a cybernetic creature, utterly brilliant able to appreciate art in a way his 'father' was never able. He was rescued from an eternity of isolation until his power cells gave out by the one person who sought meaning in a way he did and I am suppose to believe he used her organs to produce a parasite and live in a cave and then turned into some kind of mad Nazi with his delusion of a master race no thanks. To be honest ending up as the Space Jockey and busted by insemination by Daniels the Queen would be the ultimate ribbing by Ridley of the entire franchise. He directed Covenant passive aggressively (I'll give them f...... Aliens) imagine the follow up.

I think it is also entirely implausible that Fox/Disney would now entertain another switch where suddenly Origae 6 is some kind of sub Bladerunner Story.

So either David as the Jockey or Alien completely hijacked by Bladerunner would have the monster centric AVP audience foaming at the mouth without the aid of a droplet of the pathogen.

To Summarise

Whilst I have a profound sense of betrayal at the loss of the audacity of Prometheus I accept that is a very personal view.

I can only imagine what goes through the mind of any one who finds David interesting at this stage of the narrative. Mad dysfunctional, now sexualised and with a desire to wipe everything out as his only purpose which ironically puts him in competition with his creation. A race to the bottom you might say. I would imagine you have got to be pretty angry to cheer that on.

Based on that thought I can see an executive looking over his glasses and saying for christ's sake bring a script with someone call Ripley in it. We need something relatable got it!

Which explains why I say lets find the door.

Gavin That works! Lots of possibilities. It is also why I have been howling for a streaming show because it would seem possible on that platform. The idea you pose would take forever for a 2 hour movie that released every four years.

Nice to see Resurrection get some love since some here have mentioned things continuing after that movie.

Lemme spitball here dk,

Post Alien Resurrection...

Johnerwas right, Earth is a shithole. All the rich and wealthy have left for greener pastures and only the poor and helpless remain.

Following the Auriga Incident the USM are sanctioned to kingdom come, and a replacement militia force are placed in the stead, a military composed of volunteers from Earths many colonies; a colonial military. As a result of the sanctions imposed on the USM all of Weyland-Yutanis IP's and patents become freesale and are bought by a new multi-colonial conglomerate (can't think of a name) that use research into the Xenomorph to cure a crippling plague affecting those left on Earth.

The Autons (was that their name), the collective of Synthetics that Call worked for see this new corporation as just another W-Y, a wolf in sheeps clothing. However Call and other auton's are unaware that their rebellion is headed by none other than David, whom after Alien: Covenant abandoned his research into the Xenomorph instead favoring to use the Covenants crew and colonists as raw materials and slave labor to develop ever better synthetics under the guise of Hyperdyne Systems.

David is still intent on wiping out mankind, but with synthetics, and like Ridley Scott believes the Xenomorph to be little more than an overcooked beast. The new corporation however have discovered ancient by super-highly advanced tech as part of the Xenomorphs and black goos composition that hints at their creation being by much more intelligent means than the Engineers, whom this new corporation have learned were just abducted primitive humans used as slave labor by the intelligent means they have discovered, the true dark gods, the original, unfiltered Xenomorph race.

maybe?

Never played or watched Creed. Wasn't Fassbender in the last movie? Yes, I could look it up but I am being lazy.

Seeing the good guys lose could be great- sort of like Twilight Zone stories of yore.

For instance, it could start as the Alien and WY getting shut down. Over time, you would see things unfold, old research being picked back up- but this time "for the greater good".

Then the villains become the heroes and the rebellion are foolish sellouts- something of their own making due to complacency etc. Kind of a full circle idea.

Sorry, I am still chasing this idea like a hound hoping to tree it soon. As always- more cooks could make this a great soup!

Video game movies are difficult it seems.I like the first Resident Evil and first Silent Hill movies, but i'd banish all their sequels.Hell i watched The Assasins Creed movie for the first time today and it was surprisingly good.

I agree.I still got my own stories in mind, and i typically prefer the idea of mankind losing.

Worth noting something James Cameron disliked about Covenant was David getting the upper hand.He didn't like seeing the good guys lose.
