I have said this a number of times on here,  and what DISNEY need to Realize is that the Ownership of the Alien and Predator Franchises, gives them a different take on Sci-Fi that can be aimed at a different Demographic than to cater for the under 13's

These Franchises should go back to their Very Serious Roots as far as the First Movies go, i think we need to allow these Franchises to be Marketed at the 15+ year olds.

This gives Disney a different Market to compete in, should Disney attempt to open the Franchises to a 12 year old Audience, then i think they drastically have to cut a lot out, and basically reduce the Franchises potential...   by having even less Horror and Gore than even the Sharknado Franchise lol

We have to hope they realize the Franchises of Alien and Predator give them something different and marketed towards a different demographic than what a lot of Disneys Library already does.

I do think we could be more likely to see a AVP Reboot than any Alien movie any time soon, especially if The Predator does not fare well.

Going back to the OT...

I think we can conclude the Juggernaughts must travel much faster than Human Ships, i would even expect a Juggernaught to reach LV-426 from Earth even faster than the Sulaco.

I think if we take the events of Prometheus as Chronological so the Deacon Chest Bursts after Dr Shaw leaves that SOS warning about only DEATH is there now...   then that gives us at least a 5 day Window, between when Dr Shaw escaped the Lifeboat after the Engineer was attacked by the Trilobite, to when she at least made her Final Trip to the other Juggernaught.

Entering the Lifeboat between the Deacon Gestation time, Dr Shaw would see what appears to be a Dead/Incapacitated Engineer and Dead/Incapacitated Trilobite and this could give her enough time to make a dash to get supplies we saw her with in The Crossing, as well as some of the items David had in Alien Covenant.

We know that David had been on Planet 4 for about 10 years, and the Covenant Arrives about 10 years, 11 Months after Dr Shaw makes the SOS Warning in Prometheus....  but as far as how long it took her to put David back together, and Ultimately how long it took to get from LV-223 to Planet 4 is something for debate.

I think we can conclude that Planet 4 is along (or close proximity) to the Path the Covenant was taking towards Origae-6  indeed it appears the Covenant had  traveled about 10% of its Total Journey give or take...  and from being 10% into its journey it took a detour off this Path equal to about 1.6% of its Journey time so indeed Planet 4 is in the direction towards Origae-6

We currently as of Alien Covenant, are over 17 years off the events of ALIEN, with the Covenant Estimated to arrive at Origae-6 (provided it heads directly to Origae-6)  in about April 2112 which leaves us about 10 years off the events of ALIEN.

We have to assume David takes the Ship to Origae-6 and then as far as what transpires during the 7 years 4 months journey, and more so in the first few years after arriving at Origae-6 is anyone's guess.

I think we have to assume RS had planned TWO movies to cover more than likely the events of 2112-2122, i would say it appears if we are going the route that Davids Creations are what eventually end up on the Derelict... then this ship looks like it has not crash landed there for a short period of time, so we SURELY cant have it that the Derelict Crashed Months prior to the Nostromo Arriving?

But going this route means the Derelict cant had been there for more than 10 years, we could maybe assume the Derelict may have been there for say 4-5 years at very least..  But we really dont know for sure yet....   I doubt we will see David arrive at Origae-6 and then in the course of a few months or a year we end up with the Derelict.

I would also assume the returning Engineers will be where the Derelict comes from, and that its likely these Engineers Return to Planet 4 long after David has left and i would safely assume even after David arrives at Origae-6

Certainly is ;)

I think a lot of fans relate to Dr Shaw as far as a keen interest and what she would discover, and even though in Alien Covenant we see her just as a Corpse,  i think the whole mystery to what happened to her, and what happened on Planet 4 between her and David as far as how long was she alive before she became a experiment of Davids.

its the same with the Engineers, fans was looking to discover more about them, but in AC we hardly get much about them and so fans still talk about their race, ponder what happened to all those Engineers,  and why they appeared different.

Sadly AC had Characters that people just did not seem to be interested in talking about, only really David and Walter stick out....  I guess Daniels is the subject of some debate but these only seem to be regarding what happens to her now and how does she fit in with Davids plans... does she become the Queen he is after etc...

Batchpool agreed! that baboon scene was definitely messed up and hard to watch!

EDIT:Come to think of it, that whole film was messed up and disturbing. As good as the practical effects were, they were a little too realistic. Good example!

BigDave

Isn't funny how this movie generates more talk about a killed-off character than the living ones? Is that even a good thing?

Reply
BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumLimits of gore

Indeed i agree that Gore Alone does not make a Good movie or disturbing, i have seen some low budget movies throwing about Buckets of Blood and Intestines that have no effect.

why i said on here before AC and when we saw the leaked Set Props and those Baby Human/Xenomorph Hybrids... i just had some pretty sinister thoughts...

And i thought at the time, and if i was asked to re-do the draft prior to release...

Ok, we have the Covenant Ship and Colonist? who are Couples right!

Ridley Scott wants to beat the Chest Buster!

I thought and put on here way back then... showing a Female infected with the Black Goo or Spores, who is Pregnant she then has a intimate scene with her Partner... HELL maybe make this the Shower Scene..!!!!

The Female then, starts to convulse, and then we get a BELLY BURSTER... where her 8-16 week Fetus becomes a Fully 9 month Baby sized Hybrid Belly Burster...

I feel this if done right could be ONE Gruesome Scene that would hit home HARD.   It would have kind of been a  lets redo the Gruesome unused Holloway Scene from Alien Engineers, only using a Pregnant Female would have more of a Impact..

Dont Worry my ALIEN: ASCENSION  has just that kind of Scene in it.... oh well... "Thou Shalt Not Eat from the Forbiden Tree"

Certainly is DK ;)

What a Horrific thing that would be...  for me The Xenomorph was Iconic, the Predators Bad Ass... But i think the THING would be such a huge Threat, but then the Engineers Black Goo is also very Deadly too.

Reply
BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumEngineer power

Thats certainly a good point... maybe the Black Goo increases a Organisms Agression and Strength for sure, and so the Trillobite could be stronger than we think for its size.. "the trilobite had some trouble trying to impregnate the Engineer." Certainly looked it, it looked like a Stalemate but then the Engineer was getting the short end of the stick...  i ponder in desperation did he BITE the Trilobite, and this results in Acid Burn and changed the course of the Battle in the Trilobites Favor, i would be willing to bet this is what the Full Scene that we have yet to see would have shown us.

I think its a nice point to, because indeed we have to wonder if those LV-223 Engineers had been Genetically Engineering themselves with something that lead to  a Hubris of creating something related to the Xenomorph.

"You could say however that images where David's lies, but that for me is not working."

I would like to think and hope The Crossing is Canon and so indeed at some point Dr Shaw has some idea how to control the Juggernaught, which i think we can assume David had taught her.

Its a good point you make, because if we look at the Crossing then it offers us TWO Outcomes.

1) Only a Complete David can operate the Juggernaught (or at least he misleads Dr Shaw to think) and thus Dr Shaw repaired him prior to leaving LV-223.... which then its if we consider the Hair Growth to show they was stuck on LV-223 for a while.

2) David was able to show/help Dr Shaw in Two parts to be able to get the Ship off LV-223, but then we have to ask why would Dr Shaw need to repair him if a David in TWO pieces can operate the Ship.

why i think a lot of Cat and Mouse and Compromise had to be reached, but i feel  David was playing Dr Shaw and he misleads her to think she needs him more than she maybe did.

IRaptus I forgot about Centipede. I still wish I could go back in time and not watch it. I never bothered with the sequels.

The only movie with over the top gore I like is Devil's Rejects. Rob Zombie nailed that one! He made oddly sympathetic characters.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumLimits of gore

I am pretty much unaffected by Gore.....

Nothing seems to disturb me as far as Gore, its only the sense behind such Gore, so its a case of having any feeling or compassion behind the Gore and thus sympathy to the affected depending on the affected more than anything.

I do seem to feel less Empathy for Mankind, but thats because in part we are a bunch of "%£^$&$ LOL

But i do Cringe a bit at Wildlife/Vet Programs with Animals Suffering, its not the level of Gore but the suffering...

The only Horror movie that makes me Cringe even to this day is THE THING... the Dog Town Scene, its disturbing even today... maybe its because i am very fond of Dogs ;)

It also was the most disturbing movie i watched as a child, but back the most horrors never effected me..

I think in General i make a Excellent Point, that its not the Gore but the Context that counts, and so for say a Alien Franchise its when things happen to Characters we connect with and care about that affect is the most.

Can you imagine if Alien  3 went the Spore Route as per one of the Drafts and we saw Newt getting a case of Alien Covenant Back Buster?   I am pretty sure this would have been really shocking and disturbing even today, never mind back then.

@I Moon Girl

I dont think Star Wars was aimed at 15 year olds, i think its a Family movie of the 70's and 80's genre thats being a bit more Flash Gordon as opposed to a The Never Ending Story... both great movies by the way ;)

My problem with Star Wars is that since they released the DVD versions, they added the odd CGI and the odd Goofy kind of Characters and moments that just never fitted within the old Star Wars Franchise, Star Wars aimed at giving us some more Indian Jones 80's Family Fun rather than Mac and Me and ET kind of Fun....  So i feel the added Goofy additions that are not misplaced from a Pixar Studios Flick are not necisary for Star Wars.

Sadly they continued this with Phantom Menace.... but they kind of tried to go back to the feel of the Originals with Attack of the Clones and the Revenge of the Sith.

It appeared The Force Awakens kind of trod the path between a Phantom Menace and a Revenge of the Sith... but the Last Jedi took the lets add children's Pixar Characters to the extreme a bit....

ROGUE ONE was a testament to how to please the old faithful, yet i guess when trying to attract a new wave of fans, it was a bit Dark.....  but i just feel the Force Awakens and The Last Jedi seemed to be aimed at the 12 and unders too much.

But i certainly agree with your post... ;)

I think we can worry with Disney that they will go the fail safe formula of Xenomorphs and Ripley instead of offering us something New and Fresh.

dk yep, nup I can't do that image (above) lol. I showed my wife and she thought it was great hahaha.

I Moon Girl agreed on Saw I. It was a good suspenseful film with interesting with a fresh horror idea and an interesting premise (at the time).

After the first one, it got more and more into torture, self-mutilation and shock value. I haven't seen the Hostel films and don't really wish to.

dk as you know, I recently watched The Human Centipedes. Like Saw, the first film left most of the details to your imagination and was an ok film. 2 and 3 dialled up the details, shock value and grotesque and totally lost any appeal. I really wish I hadn't watched the third film because it ranks as one of the most pathetic films I've seen. It was almost begging you to think the film was cool and still relevant. Should've left it with some dignity (ironic given the premise) as a one-off cult film.

I hear you DK ;)

But failing that Request maybe we can get a R18 Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, or Beauty and the Beast with HR Giger for input Rest his Soul ;)

But seriously i do think Disney need to look at the Alien and Predator Franchise and realize they are movie franchises unlike what they have..... and they should aim these at Cert 15 year olds or higher.... we dont need Sci-Fi Popcorn for 12 and unders ;)

When those 12 and under reach 16+ they will thank us ;)

I Moon Girl I think Empire Strikes Back was the darkest and more mature of the original trilogy. Episode 1 was when I noticed it was appealing to a younger teen emo angst crowd. It also went heavy with the cute creatures and humor as you stated.

Star Wars was always more wholesome adventure to me and was kid friendly from the start.

Alien is a whole other thing. It was never little kid friendly and most of the dark humor was pretty adult. I like to think Disney knows the difference and will proceed accordingly. At worst I can imagine an AVP vibe which I am not entirely against.

Reply
I Moon GirlAlien: Covenant ForumDear Disney

I agree.

The main reason why is in example #1... The Force Awakens.

Even more so in example #2... The Last Jedi.

And slightly with example #3... Rogue One.

I can just tell Disney is involved in the first two examples.  I can barely tell in Rogue One.  Still, I can tell in all the Star Wars movies (yet, barely in Rogue One).

The problem I have with it is that these Star War movies are losing there story and are aimed at appealing to the masses.  Disney likes to play certain cards that they think are the Ace of Spades, yet it's getting old and repetitive.  It's like... there's that joke again.  It's just now it's in Star Wars instead of some children movie.  I feel like the new Star Wars goal is to appeal to the younger audience.  If the whole movie ain't based around that, there is at least some part in there that is trying to appeal to the younger audience.  I saw Star Wars as an adult film.

This is obvious in Example #4... Return of the Jedi.

I think Return of the Jedi established with hard evidence that Star Wars is an adult film.  At the very least, it is aimed for the 15+ crowd.

It seems the new Star Wars are dumbed down to appeal to everyone.  The original and even Episodes 1-3 embody complex relationships among the characters in themes such as love, friendship, loyalty, lust, and betrayal to name some that come first to mind.

Lando is one of my favorite characters of the Star Wars franchise.  This is because of the how the Star Wars books portray him.  I love his gambling problem.  Han has a "gambling" problem per se as well.

Of course, what happens to Han in The Force Awakens?  He starts his conning in the beginning only to later be... SPOILER... supposedly killed.  No more gambling or conning people.

Where's Lando?  No gambling or betraying people.  In short, in the words of Leia... no "scoundrels".  I love the scoundrels in Star Wars.

I think we're lacking debauchery in the new Star Wars movies and in place of that, we get tons of humor, overly cute creatures, and dumbed down character lines.  In the new Star Wars, it seems a good, smart character can even be forced to do stupid things all because of The Force.  A problem with these "stupid things" is with the way they are introduced into the film.

So, if we can take the Star Wars franchise as an example where the Alien franchise could go (which I am), I'm very scared for the Alien franchise.  I would rather have a bad Alien movie than a world popular Alien movie because everything will just be better.  The Last Jedi broke so many records at the box office (and it was a good movie), yet I feel like it is manly because it is a Star Wars movie.  Yet, Disney will probably be making more like it because it was such a financial success.  It's to late to be worried about the Star Wars franchise now, though.  The damage is done and it's just gonna keep on comin'.

I really do hope the Alien franchise can survive Disney.  I'll sign the petition with ya dk!

I like to think the Xeno did naughty things just for the sake of it- like a cat toying with a mouse before the kill.

On pus, it's basically dead cells and is better outside the body than inside. It can be almost a clear liquid or thick and brown like peanut butter. It can give off a smell sometimes too. In case some do not believe, here is a small example of a neck absess- in case anyone thinks it might be something else.

I Moon GirlAlien: Covenant ForumLimits of gore

Honestly, I don't like most gore at all.  I remember watching doctors on TV filming there surgeries and I couldn't take more than a second or two.  It really just comes down to gore with things that involved the human body.  Of course, I don't remember ever seeing anything in movies related to animal gore.

What really sets me off among all the gore is when something so simple and ordinary causes so much damage.  Now that is scary!  What makes it scary is the fact that something like that can actually happen.  Of course, it rarely does because people normally wouldn't do those things to themselves.

I'm not scared of death at all.  What I'm scared of is never dying while feeling what it would seem like never ending pain.  Torture is just unacceptable and inhuman.

There was a movie made about some rich people paying to watch people get tortured.  Sadly I cannot remember the name, but it came out around the time of the movie Saw II (I think).  The Saw movie series I just cannot get into.  Those tortures that people have to do to themselves doesn't make a very enjoyable movie.  The first Saw was good.  I will say that.

So, I guess my answer to limit of gore is torture because if someone is torturing somebody, then no matter what they do, it's going to be well thought out to make the person sick while also causing them pain.

I hope I die from an aneurysm or something instead of just being old and having to get all of this medical check ups and surgeries.  If I'm old and healthy, I think I'd be okay with that.

On the note of Shaw removing the embryo... that made me cringe, yet I thought it was so great for the movie that I'm so glad it's in there.  That scene is really great, even though it makes me cringe.

dk "Seeing pus and such is actually a good thing- it is often a sign of healing"

My wife tells me that too, and you're right its a good thing....just gross. especially when it is a river of it gushing from the side of a horse lol. I'll stick to rocks thanks :)

Great point! Imagination is the most effective horror element. Think of Alien, RS left it to your imagination to try and think what the Xenomorph did to its victims. Without an answer the possibilities are endless.

+30 years on and the debate still rages about the possible horrors Lambert encountered!
