'Alien 3' really is like a fine wine....in fact, it was the first alien movie I ever saw, made a huge impression on me.

But besides the point I think ALIEN 3 was an INCREDIBLE movie. The acting was just angelic and GOD like in that film. It sent goosebumps up and down my spine. The score was beyond anything I would of thought of. It accented the greasy, dark, rusty cold of the prison and echoed the emotions of the characters. It was just a fantastic film.
Alien 3 gets a 10/10 on my list and so does the other 3 Alien films.

I saw Aliens first in junior high. Absolutely loved it and it remains my most watched movie of all time...but more for the thrill, adventure, storytelling and action. It was a movie a kid could fall in love with...like any Cameron movie - a slick, story with perfect execution and state of the art effects that transport you into the characters' world. When I saw "Alien" later, I was like..."there's only one? This is kinda slow and boring." Now of course, I recognize the absolute genius of the original and I can understand why it made such an impact on audiences when it first came out.
"Alien" is so many things; I consider it an art film. Alien 3 and 4 just kinda made me go, "What the heck did I just see, and I'm not sure how I feel?" Aliens was an adrenaline rush. Alien got under my skin, stirs my imagination, and makes me think to this day. Alien 3 was definitely scary at times, but was soooo depressing. I get what they were trying to do, but you better have an amazing script and idea to kill off those wonderful characters that most people became emotionally invested in. LOVE the MUSIC in Alien 3 (I'm a music teacher)...the last note hanging on and never resolving at the end of the Fox theme - pure genius! Alien 4 is ok in my book, but the end fell flat. You can tell Sigourney was having a lot of fun exploring angles with her character, but I did not like Winona in it. It kinda felt like they tried to do a Cameron film without Cameron.
Prometheus just seems like we are going to be treated to art once again. Visceral, tense, thought provoking, disturbing, visually stunning...yeah, I expect another "Alien".

@20thcenturybuick.... a good storyteller doesn't worry about who the audience loves best, who should live or die because of their popularity.......a good storyteller tells his or her story, wherever it takes them, and let's the chips fall where they may.........it's up to us to catch up and if we don't like...tough S#$%...........
ReplyRipley Clone 8Alien Movies ForumDavid Fincher on ALIEN 3...A few words.Feb 21, 2012
@craigamore, EXACTLY! Alien 3 was a great film.
@20thcenturybuick, Of course Alien 3 killed off Hicks, Newt and most of Bishop but to me that added more to the story. It opened up the series "emotionally". We got to the dread and darkness that is Alien. Aliens left us on a high note but to me if they would of just replicated or "lightened up" the story further it would of took the intimindation of the Alien creature away completley.
The Alien series is suppose to be dark and real. Its not about just some stupid insects were suppose to kill with a pulse rifle. The story was about the Alien but it revolved around "Ripley" the central protaganist character throughout the entire series. It wasn't suppose to be about Hicks, Newt, Bishop and Ripley trying to build a family together. What is this? a kids movie? This is sci-fi and not only is it sci-fi but its sci-fi horror. They were characters Ripley built a bond with amongst the many other characters through Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. So for people to just ditch Alien 3 because of the deaths of a few characters in the entire saga is in my opinion incredibly ignorant and stupid. Thats like me saying I hate the last three Star Wars movies because Anikan Skywalker turned evil and I wanted him to stay good the entire series. The fact is, is that this series is about the Alien creature and Ripley and thats what this series revolves around. Hicks, Newt and Bishop were simply supporting characters in this series. It was Ripley's story we connected with and traveled with, not any other character.

OK. Here's a real stab in the dark.
Lots and lots of assumptions here...
1. script goes from left to right.
2. a dot and a smaller dot can mean anything
3. anything can mean anything
4. gives me something to do as I bite my nails waiting for June 8!
Total thanks to Wmmvrrvrrmm for making the script template to work from!

ReplyPOOPMETHEUSPrometheus ForumIs this an "alien" ? Space Jockey? Engineer? Demi-God?Feb 20, 2012
I think the majority of the way the guy looks is as a result of being burned with a flamethrower... hairs all burnt up, clothes in shards, ect... although I guess theres a possibility he's mutating into something since he does seem to scramble up the side of that vehicle thingy pretty fast.
ReplyXenophobePrometheus ForumPyramid in Prometheus?Feb 20, 2012
The picture of the Xenomorph life cycle that you posted, I have a few thoughts on that one -
1. The bit right at the top where it looks like the "pyramid" begins, I think it's safe to say that it is where the eggs themselves are formed.
2. The creature sat beside the egg, can we presume that's a Space Jockey?? If so, the creature that a facehugger is attached itself to is obviously the same species. . .
ReplyNephilim_LV426Prometheus ForumPyramid in Prometheus?Feb 20, 2012
Xenophobe - on 1. Correct. On 2. Also correct.
The question is - Does the space jockey willingly give itself to the egg?
It would appear so...and then the question becomes - why?
Shambhala - The pyramid that contains the eggs or the proto-type of the eggs will not be on Earth. The crew may find the clues that lead them to that faraway pyramid in an Earth pyramid - I'm not sure about that... LV-426 may just be a 'weigh-station' where one of several batches of proto-eggs will be found. I suspect there is more than one batch of 'eggs' ...
On another thread we're discussing what the runes on the SJ sarcophagi could possibly mean. I've posted some 'out there' speculations.

So the Jockeys are Harkonnens? LOL.
The palace/temple does look like a Xeno head with the face plate down.
The silhouette from the Bay Door does look about the same too. Looks like Giger may finally make some money off his hard work on Dune. Giger may be more involved in this movie than just a couple of huge murals like Ridley is leading on.

NO..NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO....NO time travel...please, no cop out-stupid-cheap-time travel laziness......the idea is way too trite and over done, please God, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...
ReplycraigamorePrometheus ForumQuestion about the name Prometheus and other things.Feb 20, 2012
Anyhoo....all signs point to the ship being called the Prometheus.....the planet we're not so sure on.............for one, In the film 'Alien', they refer to LV-426 as a planetoid and give no other description as to its size. It's in the novelization that they determine it's only 1,200 meters across. I think the fact that the film is non-specifc as to size is why Cameron made it a reletively large looking planetoid in 'Aliens'. Two, if LV-426 was terraformed by the SpaceJockey's and the events of 'Prometheus' destroy that aparatus, then it can easily be LV-426 in this film. Three, I don't see them approaching earth in that opening shot and it seems unlikely that they land on earth, only to exit the ship in spacesuits.....whereever it is they're landing, it isn't earth and it doesn't have to be LV-426 either......I find that particularly interesting.
ReplyAlien DNAPrometheus ForumQuestion about the name Prometheus and other things.Feb 20, 2012
There's the speculation of the guy in the elevator behind the mercenaries possibly having been aged unnaturally. I hate to say it, but that could possibly hint at the involvement of some effects of time travel or involve it in the plot somehow.
ReplycraigamorePrometheus ForumQuestion about the name Prometheus and other things.Feb 20, 2012
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO on the time travel......................anywhoodle....Why then is it only affecting one of them?
ReplyAlien DNAPrometheus ForumQuestion about the name Prometheus and other things.Feb 20, 2012
Time chamber or something like that. You ever saw the time machine with Guy Pearce, at the end when the guys head gets stuck outside the time machine and his head ages while those inside the time bubble don't. Something like that, but nobody here including myself want to see Time Travel in the movie, Especially the we just traveled thousands of light years just to end up back on earth theory. I was just pointing out the aged guy connection, so I'll end with that.

ReplyEGR101Prometheus ForumQuestion about the name Prometheus and other things.Feb 20, 2012
I can safely assume that there is some time travel or some manipulations of law of physics in PROMETHEUS. Have you seen Damon Lindelof's work in LOST? Of all the screenwriters in H'wood, why they pick Damon? There is a reason why Damon was brought on board the project.
Also, there is a speculation that if the plot starts with Earth, there is a high chance that all the subsequent planets the crew "visits" are all Earth at different age (!). Remember Damon's interview at Comicon [paraphrase] "..the movie will take place in the past, present & future.."
