@flacnvinyl....@T-Minus-Five....I've always felt the same way about the laser membrane, that it's meant to awaken the eggs from a kind of hybernation.....and perhaps, within a certain distance, proximity, it detects movement or presence and turns on at that point.
Replyjbsmit3@gmail.comAlien Movies ForumEgg ChamberFeb 12, 2012
So many theories, so little time. The egg chamber IS part of the ship. The vastness fits to the size of human vs ratio. The platform IS part of the ship. The laser, I suspect for effect in the movie(having given no thought to todays discussion) could be explained as a pre-warning. The SJ race had to periodically check the cargo, hence the mist to keep the eggs dormant. Kane broke the seal and awakened the parasite. However I don't know why the egg he kicked when he fell was not the first to open... Thoughts please.
ReplybregoAlien Movies ForumEgg ChamberFeb 12, 2012
In my mind there are two possibilities.
1. The SJ's were not carrying eggs in their ship. The SJ's happened to come across the Silo/Egg chamber on the planetoid, became interested in what they were and basically as in Alien bought one into their ship and the rest is history with an Alien destroying the SJ crew and the last one standing setting off the beacon before giving birth to another Alien.
2. The SJ's had some relationship with the Xeno species and were using them as some kind of weapon or for some other reason, were farming them on the planetoid within the Silo/Egg chamber. The derelict landed to pick up further supplies and something went wrong....
I think we now accept that the derelict does or is capable of flying in an upright possition. This would mean that the floor of what is called the Egg Chamber would actually be in a vertical possition when in flight. This would be strange dont you think. I could be wrong and knowing Ridley probably am, but having seen the trailer I think either of these possibilities are looking likely.....
ReplyEGR101Alien Movies ForumEgg ChamberFeb 12, 2012
@Brego
I like your opinion regarding the docking orientation of the derelict (as seen in PROMETHEUS trailer) & idea that the egg silo existing on the planetoid surface. If the egg silo is part of the ship why isn't there a more direct route to it. Instead, what we have is an opening which look like it's being eroded by some kind of molecular acid. Something has bursted though it.

There is one concept that I think has been over looked and that is how many human races there are and what happens when one race becomes alienated with enhanced super science technology. But I do like that bridges between races! Did he become that bridge willingly? and if not, to what extent of aggression was he compromised? Being small and insignificant to another race of beings, the technology would be used to solidify that fact. I hope we get to see new aliens that will put a new meaning to the word Dominion.

Okay, well , I don't know who Spartacus thinks he is, maybe it was a ruse to see if I was looking at the posts, but the article wasn't written by him and was actually written by me and can be found on my Aliens Explorations blog. Please give credit where credit is due

My site has been going a few years and denofgeek.com gave a link to it back in July of 2009 of this page

Thankyou Biomechanic. Well, the internet is a place for all kinds of new things to not be quite prepared for! Obviously Spartacus liked my article so much that he wished that he had written it. That's nice to know.

This is one of the best pieces I've seen on the conceptual origin of the SJ and Derelict. Whoever put this together - Bravo! Well illustrated and convincing. Thanks Wmmvrrvrrmm.
I'm convinced the symbols we see on the 'big head' and on the SJ pods will play an important historical role in the movie...I least I hope so...
I am looking forward to seeing a pyramid in Prometheus. This pyramid!

For me, that will be the greatest tribute Ridley can provide to this ancient woven tapestry of birth - sex - death. That's why (how) we're all here right? Keep 'em coming Wmmvrrvrrmm! Cheers!

Very cool stuff Spartacus. I have a book called "Giger's Alien" I got a long time ago. I haven't heard it mentioned in any threads, but I'm sure it has. It's all about Giger's input into the film and design concepts. It's a neat book, makes me want to dig it out of storage while waiting for the new film.

Excuse me if this has been said before.
I think I've found the pyramid I've been looking for... 0:24 into the 1st Trailer...
The red line marks what I think is the side of a large pyramid. The image appears too straight to be part of the natural terrain...

Since the SJ room is circular, and may be the Space Map room too (as seen in the trailer), the chair pops out of the floor, or from another round room, The star map appears as an occupant rests in the chair, the "gun" or "telescope" protruding from the chair takes aim at some selected realm of space, and the derelict starts to spin as to create a worm hole (while the chair remains in it's oriented position while the ship spins) and off they go...?

Hmm, no matter what your belief is or background, I applaud Sir Ridley for introducing a broader film on the speculation regarding the origin of humankind to the masses of mainstream. Stargate (the movie) hinted at extraterrestrial influence over early humans, but Ridley's film is dealing with a much more darker/detached approach on the speculative origins of human beings. And I'm glad he's the one at the helm because from films of his like Gladiator, Kingdom Of Heaven, American Gangster, and classics like ALIEN and Blade Runner, he's always taken an "it's just a movie" but it has some real notes of subtext in his approach to filming (of course the writers have largely done this, but he's the one that's visualized it). If anyone is to take a facehugger to the chin attempt at tackling the controversial issues surrounding the origins of humankind, I'm happy that it's him! And IMO science fiction is comprised of a substantial amount of reality not realized yet. I think the more interesting reaction, after watching the film, will be the possible philosophical discussions that arise afterward.

No matter how amazing the movie will be it's still all just SCI-FI. That whole ancient alien astronaut idea is rubbish.

The only thing interesting in those flash frames was distortion. Most likely two fields caught in the same frame from video of what looks like a rocky landscape. Maybe some skewed objects of some sort but really can't tell what they are.

I still see a hand in that second shot you got there......
ReplyGhorgulPrometheus ForumThe Same Scene or Not?Feb 11, 2012
This is exactly the picture I was talking about earlier! ^^
First thing coming to my mind:
Whole picture isnt seen! There is this "curtain" in front of part of the picture.
But in the picture we can see, lighter shade circular object makes me think of a planet. And there is Dark thing in front of it, probably a ship orbiting the planet?

ISS space station
Im not saying that is ISS, but the general presentation is similar to space station/space ship orbiting a planet in that picture.
Then more left, I see bigger ship approaching the planet. Looking closely, to me it looks like the picture has been edited so we cant see all of the ship, notice those much darker areas left side of those "fingers".
I dont see any hand or real finger anywhere, sorry.
My guesses:
1. They arrive there using bigger ship than the ship which is shown in the trailer, and their bigger ship remains in orbit?
2. Space Jockeys/Engineers/GenericEvilCreaturesFromSpace attack Earth in the End?
I'm rooting for 1. though

Also note, in the first post, the 1st picture with Shaw looking at the 3 ports. You cant really see it in that picture, but if you check bigger picture at gallery of avpgalaxy.com, there you can clearly see debris flying around still (remember the sandstorm flying debris around? This flying debris is why I claimed in my earlier post that the jockey ship "jumps" to orbit and touches-down as we see in that 1st picture.)
In the 1st picture the jockey ship looks also to be standing quite vertically (which it is not doing in that 2nd picture), considering Shaw probably is standing vertically.

Hey steady the buffs Craigamore and co! I don't think itchyz was been chauvanistic. I think recently (well not so recently - Alien set the trend in 79) it's always the woman saving the day - role reversal. Lets not think man or woman - keep gender out of it. The "woman" saving the day - which was a real curve ball in 79 is now the "default" setting. I think thats all itchyz was saying. What we need is a NEW surprise. Hopefully prometheus will provide this. I personaly don't think any of them are going to make it. Probably David and Shaw save planet Earth would be my bet.
