It's Shaw, shes the main character. Imora isn't even a main character and Vickers (from what we've seen) doesn't even enter the ampule room. I can make out some ampules on the left, I can also just about make out the rib detail of the dead SJ's suit on the right, as for that oblong shape to Shaws right I don't know... but the outline shape is familiar (I won't say no more)...

I think the main threat will consist of one or more of the crew members becoming infected with some mutation of sorts and than attacking the rest of the crew. Also the Space Jockey's I think will become a partial threat in the film. If there are any xenomorphs they are bound to look entirely different and be a deadly threat. So my guess is those 3 things. 1. crew members will become infected with some mutation that changes who they are and they will begin to search and destroy any remaining crewmen. 2. Space Jockey's will unleash some kind of bio-weapon, whether it be xenomorphs or another kind of species. 3. The bio-weapon itself will potentially not only harm the human crew but also the Space Jockey's themselves, as we are led to believe in the beginning of "Alien" when Dallas, Lambert and Kane find the Space Jockey dead with its chest burst open.

NineteenHundred, I pretty much take all of that with a grain of salt. But it's very fun to think, "Ya, there could be a possiblity".. lol. The point that I was making, was the shapes of the elongated heads and the relationship to the Alien. Just something that I noted. That aside, its interesting that we are awaiting a Sci Fi that is based on modern mythology and space folklore. The Summerians predicted that the Annanuki would return in 2012.. lol. And here we have a movie that might bring to light the Annanuki and there relationship to us.... in 2012. lol KLAATU the book Chariots of the gods ponders the relationship between "Ancient Marvels or Space Travel Centers".. lol. Which is what the Stargate is, if I'm not mistaken. Is another cool idea possibly taken from folklore.. I wouldn't be suprised if it is represented in Prometheus in some sort of fashion. Shambhala, I'll go with that assumtion.. Not only that, we now have Lovecraft, probably one of the most influential space/horror writes of all time, paralleling with Prometheus? Ya, lets just hope the Engineers are not owls. Getting a Lovecraft book is on my list of things to do this week. Oh, and what do you think of the summarian comment I made? Pretty funny I think. Ridley Scott states that Alien is nothing more that the movie "House of Horrors" (I can't remember the name exactly). The old adage, "good poets borrow, great poets steal"..

@Shambhala, likewise enjoyed your insight and points. HPLovecraft is either a conscious (for Giger certainly) or indirect inspiration. (He would have been a great scriptwriter if he was around now!).

Bought 2 double sided full sized US theatrical Prometheus posters online today. I think the image is one of the best I have ever seen.....a true classic. Booooyah.....

Lame comparison but I'm assuming the SJ suits are similar to those aliens of Independence Day, biomechanical of some kind?? Kind of fused into the SJ itself, would be the best and most viable kinda suit to have when going planet to planet. . .

If the engineers are going to be viewed as our Creators / Gods - and God created us in His own image, well I'd halfway expect that they should be human looking - if this is where Ripley is going with this story - and it looks that way - then I'd be very disappointed if the SJ's didn't appear human. That's not to say I like the whole idea, I think the SJ's had a lot of potential to be pretty creepy if the way we see it in Alien was it's true form. I agree with you LyleP - that concept was way too advanced for the rest of the movie. LOL!

I think the site is awesome....It's up to the studios as to what is released. I would love to know more about the plot, however the discussions here provide the outlet for creative thinking. I would also consider if I knew everything there is to know about plot, ending, timelines it would kind of spoil what I hope will be an enlightened experience on day one release. Though it is extremly difficult to ignore viewing new images or behind the scenes production shots.....ARRRRGGGH.

I agree there is allot of bullshit posted here, some of which I have been actively involved in! But I think if we spend the next 136 days waiting for tiny snippets of plot details and imaginatively dissecting 4 minutes of trailers – we will endure extreme frustration and risk lessening the impact of the film or worse, obscuring its content. The site as it stands is more than just about Prometheus now, it’s a haven for like minded Sci-Fi fans to enjoy intelligent debate and share concepts based around the Aliens universe. I think that’s healthy, as long as the likes of Johnny Ushbuck is kept in his cage. That or keep enhancing screen shots and misquoting cast members until whenever we see the film, regardless of its content – we will be disappointed. IMAO

We'd have to be extra solar at that point. Someone mentioned that this took place but a few decades prior to Alien. There's no way a refinery like the Nostromo could be built and get way out past "the rim" to wherever Zeta-Reticuli really is. There is also mention of the CORE systems in Aliens, and in Alien Ripley mentions "the frontier."

@ Ghost solitaire - the Narcissus' flight recorder also recorded that the crew of the Nostromo set down on LV-426 (an unsurveyed world at that time) for reasons unknown... reasons unknown, no mention of the clause in their contracts to investigate any signal received of possible alien origin. @SP - I think the core systems are probably the systems surrounding and including our own, and I think the frontier is the edge of the spiral arm our system is on, beyond that is inter-galactic space. The rim, I dont know, but to hazard a guess is probably the inner end of the spiral arm.

this was my idea :) i posted earlier a longer version of this idea, planting, harvesting, a K3 civ version of farming, where every planet is a crop.. .. and using time dilation, they travel at near light speed from planet to planet making round trips, planting /returning to harvest, so from their POV the growing process is accelerated. Beyond that, my idea is the alien life cycle is an offshoot of a mechanism they use not only to feed on us but to use our biomass to rapidly multiply their own (whilst absorbing fresh local DNA)

It is an interesting point to bring up. I was fortunate to recieve [i]Alien Vault[/i] as a present this Christmas (it is an amazing book and I'd advise anyone to get a copy if they are able to.) Anywho...there is a piece in the book that states the Space Jockey itself and the Alien have similar features; in particular the fact that both creatures sport a very skeletal rib cage. The book briefly quotes Ridley (I can't cite off hand) but essentially it suggests that the source of the eggs in the silo came from whatever burst out the Space Jockey. I think this question should have been closed since Ridley told us it was just a suit or something similiar, and not a skull....He also said that his purpose was to tell the story about the guy inside the suit...I think the idea of SJs as humanoid Gods looks much better than just another unlogical type of aliens...Giant head, Bald guy and many other proofs are too enough to understand that Enguneers are humanoids, and possibly Annunaki...This will make the plot genial and great, the movie will be something more than just a great horror...As for me i don`t want to see elefant safari in Prometheus, especially as Gods, lol....

I agree with you [b]@Snorkelbottom[/b] you can clearly see from other angles of the first picture, that the [i]skull[/i] is flat on each side. Where as the Jockey in ALIEN has details on the side of its face/helmet. The sculpture also has lots of details on the side profile. The first picture also features several markings that appear to be where different skeletal plates have fused, very similar to how a human's skull looks. Ridley has also stated that the SJ is a being within a suit, so it makes sense we'de see both a helmet and a skull. In summary: Image 1.) Skull Image 2.) Helmet Image 3.) Helmet

@immrsage - Yes Ridley has said that what we saw in Alien was a suit and not a skeleton, the question is what is inside the suit. although a lot of people have assumed the big guy next the chair in the trailer is the one whom wears the suit, there are an equal amount of people whom believe that something else dons the suit and the big guys serves another purpose. The Image from Alien is the suit (as Ridley stated) and IMO the skull belongs to the being whom dons the suit. So my summary: Image 1. Skull Image 2. Helmet Image 3. ???

The picture from alien - the eye sockets appear to be more on the sides of the head and not more towards the front like in the other two photos - and not only is the mouth open on the original SJ - there also appears to be a row of teeth in the upper and lower jaw. My vote is that [i]at the time alien was shot[/i], the SJ as shown was a creature, not something in a suit.

Question: what would be the reason for Ridley Scott to be so keen in pointing out that image #2 is a suit if he expected its wearer to look almost exactly like the suit itself? Before I find a proper reason for that, I believe that #1, #2 and #3 would all be helmets. Speculative note: In fact, assuming these suits can be donned by humanoids, IMHO the recently released picture of Shaw (with the [i]suits[/i] behind her) might mean that at some point a member of the crew will don one of them and try to pilot the derelict, with unforeseeable consequences. IMspeculativeHO, of course.

@Baldas, I had a similar idea with Shaw (didn't want to speculate until someone else did...too big a spoiler), but I reckon she puts it on at the end. It's her last chance of survival. Her own life support won't last five years. Her ship is gone. I can't imagine anything surviving the alien ship crash and Vickers ain't gonna last. There's nothing left (until a new trailer proves otherwise) except HER and the alien SHIP. In a way, it's a very Alien ending and very reminiscent of Ripley. I bet this is when the "warning" is sent...it's just Shaw "logging off" in her own way before going to sleep. Beautiful... But such an ending would suggest she knew she wasn't going to make it. It's too much of a tease to people who haven't seen Alien to make out that Shaw survives just to have her "disappear" when the sequel comes along.

To be fair - it's an absolutely preposterous notion that Ridley is implying that the SJ from Alien was a suit! Surely this has got to be misinformation to build up internet chatter. I just can't see Fox ploughing hundreds of millions into a film about a guy in a suit and for that matter I can't see Ridley wanting to do that film. What worked so well in Alien was the mystery surrounding the SJ - as we get closer to the release date, Fox will show more trailers and will no doubt play on the strands of Alien DNA to entice as big an audience as possible. So can you imagine how disappointed people are going to be when they find out it's a suit. If I'm wrong and they are suits then the creature inside the suit is going to have to be something special. If it's that blue guy then I'll be leaving the cinema early! As I've said in a previous post - the only reason why you'd want them to be suits is so that the humans can communicate with the unsuited SJ. As so much attention would be on an unsuited SJ (especially in human form) then you would need a brilliant actor to pull it off. It just doesn't add up - so for my money all the above pictures are skulls!

Okay, although I've previously thought that we might be seeing a totally diffent 'Derelict'-style craft in the PROMETHEUS trailer compared to the one seen in ALIEN (due to all the varied internal and exterior design differences described on other topics here), I've not yet speculated on this whole 'Spacejockey' thing too much yet. So I'll take the plunge and summarise my own 2 cents (and hopes) on this now - 1. I reckon the top pic shows an actual SKULL...probably the same one that the 2 females are shining their torches at that's discovered beside a large SUIT near the 'ampules' and giant 'head'. 2. I want it to be a skull because I agree that the middle pic showing a close-up of the 'thing' seen in ALIEN is definately showing an open-mouthed skull complete with teeth, rather than a 'helmet with teeth' which seems silly. 3.
