The derelict ship in ALIEN does look more bio-mechanical than the one in Prometheus. We seen that the SJ in alien once sitting in the pilot chair in fact fused with the chair. If you look closely at the pilot chair in the trailers there is a leathery/fleshy clamp where the SJ's back would rest. I believe that triggers some bio fusing mechanism with the SJ and the chair and possibly the whole ship. Maybe that same thing is how the metallic looking urns turn into the leathery eggs that sit within the ships egg/urn cargo. Just a thought.

l`m new to the post , and like most others ,,,,,Can`t wait what do you guys think about the idea that the eggs in the opening below the SJ ship , each egg were put in a enclosed capsule to transport out of there area of space , but something happen when they landed ??? . i keep looking at the trailer were the earth crew are walking around the eggs , but the shape of the eggs are not right..

First off, Giger is doing some work on the film. Ridley has said that Giger, specifically, is making two large murals for the interior of the'establishment' as he calls it in one of the three 3o sec. teaser trailer teasers. Beyond that, nothing specific has been confirmed that I know of. 2nd, in the deleted cocoon sequence from 'Alien', it's obvious the xenomorph began nesting and covering the walls with Its Gigeresque secretions. This is just a guess, but I wonder if what we see in 'Alien' is nesting from the xeno that killed the SpaceJockey.

I dont think that one xeno that came from the SJ could secret that whole ship. BUT they never did explore the derelict so there could have been other SJs that suffered the same fate. But then that leaves the eggs in the cargo bay a big question mark because of the mechanical lazer/blue mist that was shielding the eggs. The Xeno wouldn't have rigged this up.

I've always wondered if that laser was less protective than it was a device that 'awakens' the eggs to potential hosts, almost likle the eggs are in their own kind of stasis. I'm mean, can it really be protective? It did nothing to Kane when he broke the beam.

I think it is a shielding mechanism of some kind to cut off any sense that a living creature is near the egg. I mean Kane walks a good 10 feet or so down that walking strip before he falls down. If that mist hadn't shielded his presence then he would have been face hugged a few steps onto that platform.

true, but it may have been kind of a way of the engineers to no waste eggs. with no queen what they had was what they had. dont want to waste huggers.

They are pretty similar, I posed a similar question but honestly I think it's simply artistic license and we are reading into it way too much. Alien is a 30 year old film. I wouldn't expect them to carbon copy the former SJ chamber, and it any case the new is prertty fresking close. We are going to see more. More Space Jocky, more ship, more aliens, more more more. The amount of detail that went into that shot of the SJ chair was completely insane, like models in star wars. It was beautiful, and looks beautiful by today's standards. The aren't going to built a full scale derelict, but I'm happy to hear about animatronic models! in fact I'll wager, that 99% of viewers wouldn't notice or care about the differences. I'm just saying.

At this point we know little more about the SJ, his ship, and whatever the eggs are or came from than we did in 1979. It's fun to speculate! Honeslty in my opinion the eggs didn't look completely deliberate in the chamber. Like the SJ and his busted up suit, it all looked like an accident to me. something went wrong, very wrong.

Hello Xenoman, I agree and it was a bit concerning that the interior of the SJ command post looked more organic in Alien than in Prometheus. After some thinking I realize the material of the ship is biomechanical, meaning it grows over time. Post mortem, it's been documented that fingernails can continue to grow in humans. In turn, I think the ship still evolves or becomes "arthritic" or boney if you will, before it "dies" over time. The interior is more metallic and smooth at first and grows more biological after a very, very long time. After millennia, SJ becomes fossilized. The events in Prometheus will takes place millennia ago. Hence, there will be time travel in this movie! Any takers?

Honestly, I say game on, in particular when it relates to AvP. ALL of the Alien vs Predator movies suck. Every last one of them, especially Requiem. Alien and Aliens are phenomenal films, and Alien 3 is ok, but nothing to write home about. Resurrection had smiling CGI swimming aliens. Seriously...? So yes, if Alien is canon, then I am willing to accept anything new Ridley will throw at us, regardless of whether it conflicts or goes with Aliens, Alien 3, so forth...

I'm not sure if it will necessarily conflict with the films that came later, but I believe it will definitely change our perception of them, knowing more about what the aliens really are and where they come from. As for AvP, I hope it's implied that the aliens were actually created around the time of Prometheus, thus negating the possibility of the AvP films ever actually taking place.

I think we can all agree that the AvP movies suck. But I also agree with Jockey. It can only add more to our perception of the sequels. Even if we see something completely different in Prometheus, the xeno is so complex there are so many different variables. That's what makes the xeno so awesome.

In my honest opinion I accept and embrace with love and affection all the Alien films in the series. From Alien to Alien Resurrection. I think they all contributed something to the universe of Alien. AVP can go die! There not canon and those movies failed on fifty million different levels. I will always forget about their existence. They are pure spin offs from the orginal "Alien" character. They have nothing to do with Ripley, Timeline of the original Alien plotline, or storyline in general. So saying they are canon is just pure idiocy. I can't wait for Ridley Scott's Prometheus and possibly another prequel after since he did mention that he might be doing 2 prequels. I know some people argue that "oh Alien and Aliens are the only good one's in the series." Or even just Alien but it is a series and I really liked every film. Every film had something important to say about Ripley and the story surrounding the Aliens. Also it is a storied franchise with an iconic permutation to it. Ripley's character is consistent so forging out and neglecting Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection is just idiotic in my opinion. I will take Prometheus and any other prequel Ridley Scott throws at us as another legendary adventure into the Alien series. I believe Prometheus and future prequels Ridley Scott will make are canon as well as Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection since they are part of the orginal storyline that carries Ripley's story with the Alien species . You just CAN'T take those films out of the equation. Your leaving out the rest of the recipe in the story. Everyone has their own opinion about all the Alien films from first to last but in the end they are consistent and Ripley's character is consistent through all of them so you shouldn't just LEAVE a few out. It just doesn't make sense.

i hope prometheus is like a rosetta stone for the series. an explanation to alot of questions, while asking some of its own. maybe im asking alot but damn after all this time, i think i can lol. plus ripleyclone8,dude, you freakin rock. never found somebody that can go qoute for quote with me lol

Same here! I hope it answers many questions revolving around the mystery of the first Alien. Apparently not too long after the release of Prometheus Ridley Scott will be prepping up another prequel that follows the birth and lives of the Space Jockey's. i still have the feeling they are gonna hack starcraft though, humans were the engineers first creation but with there reasoning were too much, so they then created the xenos but they were too feral and overtook them. i hope not but something tells me

Thats how I feel about Prometheus. I read somewhere that the humans might turn some xenomorphs back on the engineers and thats what kills them. But who knows haha, there so many plausible theories surrounding Prometheus, anything is possible.

Alien ia a great movie. Aliens is a different concept but a great movie. Sorry but it is. Alien 3 wasn't bad, it was creepy like the first one, but was missing something. I liked the set up, hated canceling out the ending of aliens (not necessary), and hated the last act. It was just cheesy for me. Alien R was just weird. The alien orgy was weird. Ripley as a clone didn't ruin it, but the space pirates did. The movie was still sort of creepy/scary. Didn't hate it but it's forgettable. All the Alien vs. Predator fims blow. Terrible writing, terrible acting, not scary, stupid fight scenes, stupid decisions by the character. I'm sorry, predator aliens would completely dominate the Xenomorph. Period. Especially with weapons. As an ultimate game animal? Ehh I'm sure there would be worse/deadlier things to hunt when you can travel the galaxy. I don't want to down play Xeno, but the Ridley Scott Alien, is not a Xeno exactly and is more mysterious and probably worse than the bug of Cameron's concept. I hope the Prometheus canon is back to Ridley Scotts concept, which in all honesty has nothing do do with any of the other movies, nor has been fully realized in all it's disturbing terror from the words comming from his own lips.

it seems like they are keeping a simalar score to the movie which i think is awesome. the soundtrack of alien added so much to the tension, another lost art in todays movies

we will see if prometheus goes the way of alien, into the stratusphere, or the way of giger's other creation, species, deep deep into the freaking core of the planet

I absolutely loved ALIEN and ALIENS. I guess I dont understand why people just like Alien vs Aliens. I thought both were awesome, both had great story lines, suspense, terror....etc. I mean if it is just a grudge of Ridley vs Cameron then thats fine but that doesnt take away from the film. I hate Duke basketball but they always win...hence I acknowledge they are very good in basketball doenst mean i have to like them. I know cheesy example but gets my point across. Or is it because there are multiple aliens vs just one alien? I thought Alien 3 was not to the level of the previous two, but I still liked it. Alien Res I thought was the worst of them all. It was I guess bearable to watch until towards the end and it just got ridiculous weird. That abomination that was birthed has to be the stupidest looking and not scary creature ever.

Well remember the look of the alien was Geiger, not the concept. Mthe movie concept was Ridley.

@craigamore: i'm with you on that one man! i am really going to put absolute faith in Ridley this time. giving HIM the benefit of the doubt in regards to this new direction he's taken with PROMETHEUS. i can't really recall a film that i have so eagerly awaited perhaps with the exception of TRON:Legacy, have i been this excited for a continuation of a story and am actually looking forward to having my simple mind blown to smithereens, much the way it was when i first saw ALIEN granted, there is a chance my lofty expectations for this film could not be met, at the same time, Ridley hasn't put forth a proper science fiction film since 1982, so i am going to trust the HE above ALL others will deliver on what Cameron promised - - yet sadly failed to deliver i will credit Alien3 and David Fincher for at least trying to be original, that film just didn't do it for me the way i had hoped it would. still, i dig that film as for the "AVP" nonsense, i do my best to understand that they have NO PLACE in the universe that Ridley Scot and the late great Dan O'Bannon seduced me into with that said, i'm happy to know there are other folks who feel as i do about ALIEN, and all the reductive "sequels" that followed such an iconic work of cinematic art June 8th 2012 can't get here fast enough!

what i like about this is that he is not making it an alien movie. its now somthing much grander and bigger. and think about it maybe after watcing this it will change the story the canon will have changed alot. before when we watched alien we would look at the jockey and wonder. now when we watch alien. we will either feel sorry for the jockey or hate its guts. but now we will really see how deep the alien universe or should i say ( the jockey universe) really goes. maybe after watching prometheus we can see that maybe it relates to not just the alien universe but to everything

I will be very interested in what the actual "weapon" concept is, and how much the Xeno form IS the weapon vs. it's DNA or creation process. I''m hopeful for something worse, deeper, and more dark than the alien creature we are used to -as beautifully terrifying as it is. Like he has said, we've seen too much of it, and frankly what most people speculate about its life cycle, as well as it ability, it wouldn't be an effective weapon against a highly intelligent and technologically advanced race, just a real nasty pest.

I have a question that may be off the topic, but someone might know. How far from the colony was the derelict ship? Because I have always wondered when they blew the colony, did the explosion distroy the space jockey ship too? I think it was to far away to be destroyed and should be still there. Does anyone know? Maybe it was answered in a book or something. If not destroyed, maybe someone will write a book or make a movie going back to LV426.

well, you guys should know that the conversation between Burke and Ripley where it becomes obvious that Burke has sent the colonists to find the derelict ship and getting upset is not an extended scene but has been always since the cinematic version of the movie!

All the extended footage is available in the special addition which was released with the alien trilogy box set. And as far as distance it couldn't have been that far from the colony the crawler newts parents used to get there didn't seem to move all that fast. Plus since the company knew it was there the proximity of the colony to the derelict was probably intentional.

The scene extension comes before Burke and Ripley are talking. The scene that was left in the movie is a shortened version of the scene I am talking about. You get the ending of the scene in the original cut. There is about a minute or so of Ripley checking the computer records then going to Burke and starting a conversation about it before the original scene comes in. The original scene has Burke starting off saying - "Look those things are worth millions to the bio weapons division." In the deleted cut, Ripley begins talking with him and catches him lying/not telling the whole truth and then Burke starts explaining himself. This is where the original scene comes in. I have 3 different VHS release copies, 4 DVD copies and the Blu Rays. None of them have this scene. I wish James Cameron were here!

Ugh! Every time I remind myself of this I think more and more that I am insane. I have checked 3 different versions of the script and none of them have this scene in them.
