Thats a big boo boo if the Gods were stupid enough to leave origins of our existence behind, unless it was deliberate?
ReplyTec-BPrometheus ForumMysteryDec 10, 2011
How about: if space jockeys are the creaters of er.. everything, or at least the human race, is it reasonable to assume that they would be carbon based life forms (yes i know the xeno's aren't but the thinking is they're a highly adaptable bio weapon) and would therefore base the organisms that would evolve into humans and everything else on a body chemistry similar to their own? If they created the chemistry that gave rise to life then it may be safe to assume that they guided the enviroments in which those organisms evolved? so it's not unreasonable (IMO) to assume that their planetary chemistry and therefore atmosphere would be tolerable to humans? at least in the interior of their structures should they wish it to be that way.
ReplyRipley Clone 8Prometheus ForumMysteryDec 10, 2011
That's an interesting point but than why would there be need for space suits on the planet if that was the case. If they knew what the atmosphere was and they could breath without worrying about certain hazards than they wouldn't probably bother bringing spacesuits unless they wanted to be cautious. I'm kind of curious to find out what the other Space Jockey bio-weapons are. Its mentioned that the Aliens were one of the multitude of bio weapons the Space Jockeys posses. Who knows what else they are capable of.

They look kinda smaller than i expected too me. i can't even imagine how the SJ is going to look on screen though, when we see it and how we will see it and how much of it we'll see. can anyone speculate on the colour they will be?:)

well honestly its nothing special BUT his first movie "the duellists" is a total masterpiece .
ReplyTec-BPrometheus ForumRidley Scott's DebutDec 10, 2011
Oh i don't know.. that advert is considered a classic in the uk, I mean think about the time this was set. Most adverts back then were cheesy, logo ridden, hooky songed push it down your throat, unremarkable advertising. This was one of the first of the Short film format with a lot going into it's composition. looking at it for the first time in years, it's actually exquisitely well shot if you compare to, hell, even tv and films of the time.
ReplyFrantzPrometheus ForumRidley Scott's DebutDec 10, 2011
well yes ..i think you are right ...1973 is so far far away and there were very kiddish advertisements . Often we think is "nothing special" something that was the first in his genre and that deserve much more praise , like you say .
ReplyTec-BPrometheus ForumRidley Scott's DebutDec 10, 2011
lol i just realised i said "the time this was set" instead of "the time this was made"
Obviously we didn't have commercials in the late 1800/early 1900's ;)

Chariots of the Gods, although i've never heard it cited officially, bore a lot of similarity to ridleys commentaries for alien and his jockey ideas. Again, even though i don't believe it was officially cited the influence was (forgive me snorkel lol) clear to see in AVP.

Read some Erik Von Daniken.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
The Guy who wrote the book...Chariots of The Gods...I think it was in 1939 or something like that claimed that ALIEN the original was completely stolen from that story, the Makers of Alien settled the law suit out of court.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
When I said convinced, I was referring to the film Prometheus. The only real tangible evidence I've seen thus far is the stones at Puma Punka.
ReplyEngineer Prototype - Model GAJ84Prometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
@ Spartacus.
Yeah i'm pretty sure something like that happened, they apparently "kissed & made up" after that whole fiasco. Von Daniken also wrote several other books with "of the gods" in the title. Im sure I read somewhere recently that Scott is going back to Von Danikens work for inspiration/ideas.
OT, Did you get my mail?
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
The music piece he used at the end of Alien had/has a part in it called the same thing..."Chariots of the Gods"...I think.
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
One question, that won't be answered for six months though is - When do the Space Jockeys interfere with life on Earth...
1. Do they create life on earth (maybe pouring their goo into the oceans)?
2. Do they create humans (maybe using their green goo on apes)?
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
I think they do but we DON'T see that, it will be inferred.
The film will end with some inference to the eggs on LV-426, and Humans on the way, {takes light years for deep space warning signals to be heard and responded to} and I think...that is where it will end... because it is enough from that point on to suggest that Earth is in some deep "doggie doodie"
ReplyGavinPrometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
I think the inference will come from the age of the Space Jockey artefact/site they find on earth, it will either be older than the first living organism known or preceed the first known human fossil.
I think the former makes them more benign, whereas the later would make them more malevolent.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumCould This Have Influenced Prometheus' StoryDec 10, 2011
I was wrong, here are the Facts...
A lawsuit by A.E. van Vogt, claiming plagiarism of his 1939 story "Discord in Scarlet" (which he had also incorporated in the 1950 novel "Voyage of the Space Beagle"), was settled out of court.

ive yet to read of someone that say that the trailer was disappointing ...even if you see basically nothing ...now immagine to see it in HD for the first time and i can understand the dissapointment of the FOX guy ...
IS a kind of trailer that push you to see the movie ... the music mix is also excellent and with the few words and screams build already alot of tension !

I didn't find the music all that incredible myself but it was okay. It is possible that was some canned music or it was made just for the trailer.

They accomplished what the Fox people should have done this early and not reveal anything. I mean they could have put Prometheus as the title of this and it would have worked for me.
ReplyPaddy101Prometheus ForumPrometheus Trailer Soundtrack - AMAZING!Dec 10, 2011
Does anyone else feel a bit disappointed that they are using some of the score from "Alien" and also a slightly different version of the score for "Inception" mixed together....
I was hoping they would create something completely new and original that would be unique to Prometheus....
I don't like the way they are stepping on the score of the original film as I think it is taking slightly away from the original film...
Every big budget film now is using the Inception score, I'm thinking of Transformers 3 etc....
By using the same music from Alien your basically saying "yeah this is a prequel"...!
I want Prometheus to a be a stand alone film that tells a separate story to any of the other films yet revealing some information, not all, on the Space Jockey... Therefore they should spend as much time as needed to create something truly unique....
The way the Prometheus title gradually enters the screen is fine with me as it's just the title... the score however is far more important as it invokes an emotional feeling while watch any film...
Example, in Alien there is a wide shot moving away from the Nastromo after the face hugger has died, I think, the sound track gives you an un-easy feeling that not is all well... Another one is that in "The Dark Knight" pretty much every scene the Joker is in the same music is playing giving a sense of unrest or what ever you want to call it...
What ever happens I hope Ridley and who ever is creating the score they stay away from the late Jerry Goldsmith score as it should only be used in Alien and that they create something new for Prometheus...
Do we really want the Alien score to be used/exposed as much as the zenomorph was in Alien4 and AVP/AVP:R........
Reply BiomechanicPrometheus ForumPrometheus Trailer Soundtrack - AMAZING!Dec 10, 2011
Very much agree Paddy but I don't think we can judge the movie by the trailer. The marketing department that makes the trailers and teasers have one goal, to get as many tickets as possible sold. A good filmmaker just wants to tell an interesting story that they are proud of.

I'm waiting for the BBFC to clasify it. Somtimes they might give the trailer for a film a 15 then the film itself an 18.
ReplySpartacusPrometheus ForumPrometheus Trailer Now Classified @ 14+ yrs!Dec 10, 2011
it also says there that the film itself has to be equal or lesser rated when released meaning it will be 14+ or less in Alberta at least, my province, Quebec, might be the ONLY Canadian province to carry a rating different from the rest of North America.

ReplyTec-BPrometheus ForumPrometheus Trailer Now Classified @ 14+ yrs!Dec 10, 2011
yeah agreed EP, the BBFC base a trailer classification on the the content of the trailer, not what the film is likely to be, which they won't know because they haven't even classified it yet seeing as its not complete. I can't see how the canadian rating agency can have rated a film that won't have been screened for them yet.
That and i don't believe Ridley Scott would have directed the film if he couldn't have made it aimed at a rating he wanted. There's to much love for Alien and i don't think he would risk critical and popular backlash by directing something based on a targetted demographic by the studio. That's why AVP bit my hairy ass
