They probably knew what it was from old documents found on earth talking about the xenomorphs coming in a.v.p. That storyline ties in with Alien, right.

It is apparent the "Company" knew of some type of organism but as to it's nature they prob did not. Reroute an unarmed ship with people that no one will miss...expendable. But by placing ASH on the ship prior tells me that they had already drew up a way to get it back here to earth...so, then, something in PROMETHEUS will hopefully flesh that out, like Scott said, the last 8 minutes will give a brighter light on Alien... Okay...can we finally get a trailer? I mean it..seriously..the Dark knight has one already, though it is not much but it has one.. and yeah, Scott could care less for AVP and any of the movie that were made after Alien.

One thing i dont get is why Ash starts to make some warm ups after the crew of the Nostromo goes to explore the alien ship. I find it really strange for a robot XD.

Yeah, I kinda figured they had this planned before the flight departed. The company knew the ship was there and just needed people who would not be missed. How long have they known about the ship? With some insight, I would think Prometheus aids us in the many questions we have from watching "Alien" as a stand alone film...full of mystery.

So far no indication of suppressed traumas related to gender alteration...subject's social counts are too low for large crew...and has been routinely assigned small crew cryosleep mode duties which have been performed adequately. Slight hyperactivity and nervousness diagnosed and Loxy-Clav M (oral ingestion) has been successful...moderate intelligence and performance abilities did not substantially increase after security patrol navigation duties and subject was re-assigned long range cryosleep duties on cargo transports and tugs. Kane....Under pressure at medical school, subject abused medication (Dylop-Chromium 47) and caused an embolism which hospitalised subject for 107 days. After psych. reorientation at Mann Hadley's medical clinic, subject responded to career therapy and chose to study for a commercial pilot's licence. After achieving it, subject became an executive officer on a British Hospital ship, but again succumbed to drug abuse and was removed from position for re-evaluation. After diagnosing subject as a Hunter-Selman personality variation of type A, Dylop-Chromium 47 treatment was concluded and was replaced with Carothene Matrix A concentrates. Subject may self-medicate with commercially-made alcohol. Tendencies to alcoholism countered with daily consumption of Selway Digression molecule blenders (SMDBs). This treatment proved successful and subject was rated operational for duty again. After gruelling duty as captain of a medical tug, subject asked for transfer away from medicine-related jobs and went into merchant transport assignments Brett...Subject exhibited passive response to violent childhood memories when given the Steiner/Korngold GMF Analysis, which indicates reversal and sublimation of hostility...SPECIAL NOTE: Subject was remanded to company employment from U.S. Federal Rehabilitation Program for Displaced Youth...subject committed a level 8 felony when 17. Suffers from PTS syndrome following colonial military tour of duty.1 August 2107 - 21 Febuary 2108 Captured by J'har Rebels during Torin Prime Civil War. Imprisoned at Concentration Camp GR-161. Dallas has a VERY poor track record. He's not a rookie as far as losing his crew either. 1 March 2108 Given command of UAS Archangel troop carrier, [Flight Status A] 25 December 2109 UAS Archangel destroyed in enemy attack during peace-keeping operation on Thedus, 15,293 lives lost. Ship unsalvagable, [Flight Status Suspended]. 3 Jan 2110 Receives Dishonourable Discharge from UAORD. [Flight Status Revoked]. 14 December 2113 - 4 May 2114 Freelances special transport ops of hazardous materials for Weyland Yutani in the Solomons, [Probationary Fligth Status D] 21 July 2114 - 3 December 2118 Purchases civilian cargo vessel Tremolino. Freelances cargo and transport ops for Weyland Yutani throughout the Outer Rim Territories, [Flight Status C]. 7 December 2119 Tremolino decommisioned. Crew disbanded. 4 January 2120 - Present Given command of Weyland Yutani commercial towing vehicle USCSS Nostromo, [Fight Status B].

Perhaps by placing a broken and expendable crew together, no one would miss them and would explain their missing because of their past problems...always have to a cover up story for why you family members disappeared.

I have watched the bluray with it's deleted scenes many times. It never occurred to me to ask why Dallas was in pain. Being folded up and resin encrusted like a poseable doll would be enough combined with the fear that the xenomorph can return at any moment and do whatever it want's with you. Even in contemplation the idea that your dna and subsequently your very metabolism is being rewritten in order to modify you would surely be a painful process in and of itself, so for me the question is answered. Did Brett look like he was having a good time over there across from Dallas? Wait for the last eight minutes of the film, I'm sure Ridley will be addressing many of those questions.

FrantzPrometheus ForumMy expectations for Prometheus
Well to me the behaviour of Dallas is strictly tied to being absorbed but the Alien "matter" ... basically i think his body is melting and that must not be funny . His eyes are swollen . hes not able to see anymore and probably the legs are slowly devoured by the alien "matter"

I agree to all, after alien they made them cool, and not frightning. and I watch Alien (dc) this morning, and it has been a really long time, but I notist that Ridley's alien fit's perfectly in Nick's quotation, But for some reason I don't think there might be no connection to the other movies, what if aliens not only mutate with there host's DNA, but also with that of there 'parents' host? It might be a stupid idee.

FrantzPrometheus ForumMy expectations for Prometheus
maybe the host is necessary to feed the egg and the new organism ...
Reply
Ghost SolitarePrometheus ForumMy expectations for Prometheus
A question.... Consider that the Xenomorph evolved from the impregnation of a human host by a facehugger. What might have evolved from the lengthy mutation of a human into what may have emerged from the Dallas and Brett eggs. The notion that a human would have been transformed into a mere facehugger seems inefficient considering the complexity of raw material the Xeno was given to work with.
Reply
FrantzPrometheus ForumMy expectations for Prometheus
But maybe the host was merely a pile of substances ... I think there are animal species that use the body of a host to feed the eggs ...the alien maybe have used the bodies to feed the "dna" that slowly consumed the two living bodies :p

Mr.JPrometheus ForumMy expectations for Prometheus
The Alien was just doing what it normally does..gather hosts and then die....like an insect that lives for one day....so...if that is the case, the Alien would of died at some point....depending on how long the life cycle is for the Alien...so Ash, if he had gotten away with it..would have to freeze it to bring it back...

How ironic, I just finished watching Alien tonight as well. I don't think the company had any prior knowlege of the Alien itself, but wanted "whatever it was" to be brought back for analysis. Ash's new orders came once the distress call was intercepted by the Nostromo. Ash didn't know what it was, all he knew was what he had learned in the short time of examining it in the med-lab and then as the crew were picked off one by one. One of the scenes I found interesting, was the part when they're going to land on LV-426 and they hear an elephant-like sound and Parker says "What the hell was that?" but nobody else seems to hear it. I'm curious if that was part of the distress call which they intercepted or if it was just the sound of the wind outside.

Not to mention the deleted scene in which you actually hear the "Jockey" speak for a good 12 seconds, perhaps that perked the curiosity to gather whatever is found

There is deep underlying story where Prometheus, I hope answers these questions. Special Order 937, someone knew the ship was there and what the cargo was. Did an android from the Prometheus film gather data that was transmitted back from him to the dark figures of the company..thus alerting them to the space jockey ship?

Well the science officer is also the doctor ...and usually you never risk a doctor . Since ripley was the second in charge ( you dont send BOTH the two highest grade in the same mission ) and since the two technicians were at work to repair the ship dallas choice is maybe the only he had ....

Yes, as i stated elsewhere i think the deleted "cocooned" scene from Alien should be a great starting point ... is horrifyng and original and to be ,by far ,a superior and scaring idea than everything was made in the sequels .

MentosPrometheus ForumMy expectations for Prometheus
I think thats a pretty solid take on the situation, and to be honest I hope that's what we're given in Prometheus. It'll be a logical choice. I think with each film that was added to the franchise, the idea behind the Alien became less frightening and the mystery deteriorated. I still don't like what Aliens added to the franchise if I'm honest (still a great film to watch though). Some sort of mutant creature(s) will work very nicely in Prometheus. In fact, though Alien Resurrection is a terrible, horrible film I quite liked the idea of the New Born. It was grotesque and fairly original. I think if Resurrection never existed and the New Born turned up in Prometheus fan's would've been quite pleased with it.

RickPrometheus ForumMy expectations for Prometheus
You know that is a good point. Now one thing that is also overlooked in Resurrection was that the Aliens didn't kill the scientists. They cocooned them and created some sort of bio interface with them. The one scientist that was teaching the aliens I thought was directly relating what the Queen was feeling and thinking. Now take this back to the Alien basics with the original Alien.

Yeah, sounds like it is really taking shape. The big thing for me is that he hints the Space Jockeys are not the engineers, or there are good and bad Jockeys. Also, the Prometheus link becomes more apparent, much more than just the name of the ship.It is now starting to come together for me,good and bad Jockeys/higher beings, uncivilized behaviour, the Prometheus angle, all starting to make sense :). Mr. Scott's just-completed film "Prometheus" represents his first sci-fi release in nearly three decades. The movie, he said, is about "a higher being who challenges the gods" and is punished for his temerity. The screenplay for "Prometheus" was written by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts. While Mr. Scott refrains from calling it a prequel to "Alien," the last eight minutes of the "Prometheus" story evolve into "a pretty good DNA of the 'Alien' one," he said. "Prometheus" was shot in 3-D with computer-generated imagery, in contrast to "Alien," when Mr. Scott and his team used spaceship models and a puppet and actor in costume as the alien. Since then, Mr. Scott has embraced computerized special effects, and said directing "Prometheus" was "the best time I've had in a number of years making a movie." Nonetheless, Mr. Scott said computerized effects don't mean much without a strong story, which is why he has worked for years to develop the scripts for his current projects, and why he has such respect for sci-fi writers. "The hardest single thing to do is write a screenplay or book," he said. "I'm not a writer, really. I get on very well with writers because I know they're my best friend."

"The central metaphor of “Prometheus” is about a “higher being” who challenges the gods, and the gods don’t want to give him fire. “Fire is our first form of technology,” Scott says, and so by taking fire, the higher being is punished “in perpetuity in a horrible fashion.” Much like the story of the mythological god, Prometheus, who stole fire from Zeus and for his actions was bound to a rock with an eagle eternally devouring his liver." -Scott

Hello there! First time here! O.K. maybe i'm wrong, but i heard that we are the best creations (higher being) of the Space Jockey( god) and that they are in "awe"of us !!! So when we go to their homeworld, we stole something there(stole fire from the god), and they start to punish us in horrible ways !!!
