Both good points. And I tend to agree in some aspects. I think that is the good thing about these debates. I personally think that Aliens is probably one of the best sequels ever made in that it didn't repeat what the first film did and expanded the original idea into something else entirely that the audience had never saw or expected to see. Maybe because I marginally enjoyed Aliens more could sway my opinion that way. Regardless it doesn't mean that you guys are wrong, on the contrary your points are well valid and you will probably get more people agreeing with you rather than me but rest assured Alien is and always will be a benchmark for sci-fi films everywhere. Lets just hope Prometheus is as good as we all hope.

I'm right there with you CarterJ. I've never been more pumped for a movie like this in a long time. I just hope my exceedingly high expectations don't get the best of me when going to see it. Being that this is Ridley's first sci-fi in almost 30 years I'm sure he will approach this project with as much enthusiasm that he did with Alien and scare the hell out of us in all new ways. I don't think he will disappoint us.

fair opinion, And from a technical point you are correct by majority opinion, still, I just thought it had some cool ideas in it and that it's got to be quite hard to write a script like that.

I've already answered this in a previous post but the greek tale of prometheus has more implications than just the titan giving mankind fire. He gave mankind a new awakening with his interactions and was punished severely for it. I believe that, in Prometheus the film, the space jockeys will be divided in opinion. I think some will want to teach and develop humans while others will want to reign dominant over them. I think that a lone space jockey will defy his race and give mankind a new technology and knowledge. This will possibly lead to the discovery of FTL travel and space exploration- hence the Weyland- Yutani science vessel- "Prometheus".

Another interesting part of the Prometheus tale is Pandora's casket. She opened the casket given to her by the space jockeys and unleashed the alien, giving mankind much misery, lol. Maybe one of the cast in the film will be the equivalent of Pandora...

I'm still unsure as to what will be discovered in the expedition on Earth that leads the exploration team to seek out the Space Jockey race. I remember seeing a set pic awhile back that showed what looked to be a representation of a star constellation or map on the floor. Perhaps they use this constellation or even find coordinates to their planet and that's how the journey begins. I think FTL travel will already be an invention at the time of the discovery, but the findings on Earth is what will prompt the team to seek them out. I think the so-called "fire" that will be stolen is the substance hidden within the eggs/urns that we saw in the leaked screen caps awhile back. Whether this assists in the terra-forming process or is bio-source code for creating new life I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure this is the technology that will be taken away from the Space Jockeys.

Sorry to disagree Thadus12 but Aliens is quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The third and 4th in my opinion killed off the franchise. It couldn't have been that bad a film. The concept that grew into Aliens spawned graphic novels that people loved worldwide. I agree wholeheartedly that Alien is AMAZING of course but lets not dish the dirt on Aliens so quick.

Dont get me wrong CarterJ, Aliens was well made and shot etc, but the original story premice was rewritten,as soon as the queen was introduced it took the story to another place entirely.Ask any true Alien fan and they will agree Aliens did more harm than good, and to leave HR Giger out of the alien design for Aliens is pure madness.Thats just my opinion...

I loved both Alien & Aliens, you just have to view them as two separate genres. Alien was a pure horror flick whereas Aliens was an all out action film. However, I do have to agree with Thadus12 that the introduction of the hive mentality in Aliens did disspell the mysterious aspect of the Alien itself. That was what made the first one so intense, is that you didn't know what it was doing off screen or what made it tick. They did effectively kill the series with the 3rd & 4th movies but that's a whole other debate for another day. The one thing I think the "Alien" concept had working against it is that the creature itself eventually got over-exposed as more sequels came out and of course the AvP movies, basically reducing the creature to a caricature of itself and not something to be terrified of anymore. The only way to really turn the series on it's head is to start over and do a fresh take on the creature, which is a brilliant idea by Ridley.

JonesyTheCatPrometheus ForumThe Big Giant Head
Here's my take: The big 'human' head represents the species the SJs are cultivating in that chamber with all the eggs/urns. Maybe there are other chambers with other species SJs are cultivating. It has been rumoured that the SJs created the human race, so why not other races, including the xenomorphs. Maybe we'll see their chamber with a giant xenomorph head.

My thought is that the giant head is perhaps the father of us all. I can't help but be reminded of the Olmec who possibly remembered who created them and built statues in honor of these Gods. Then generations later came the Mayans who may have been visited again by the creators who shared some further knowledge or perhaps unleashed evil demons upon them or both. Here is an interesting read: Mayan Info The head may be part human, part machine, part God. God created man in his own image but who is to say God needs a body? Maybe only the head is grown because his body is the ship, eyes are not present because they are the ships sensors? Nose and ears are present though? Maybe it is a biomechanical experiment from something else and has some left over features? Maybe it is just how this creepy stuff works in this strange world. It's abstract. Maybe there was a plan many years in the making where father meets mother? Maybe it was planned on earth and only certain beings knew about it. I still would like to think Vickers is an android that turns into the space jockey and the eggs were made from humans in stasis. The Prometheus ship may have had thousands of humans on their way to colonize a new world. Perhaps she hijacked them for something else, not necessarily anything to do with xenomorphs. Maybe all androids have a special part to play. Why was Ash forced upon the crew of the Nostromo? Obviously they know more than they let on. If Vickers is the head of the company but also an android then perhaps the androids were never made by humans. Maybe they created the company with a special elaborate agenda in mind. I think the android's plans got screwed up when humans came across the alien eggs and brought one on the Prometheus, maybe out of curiosity maybe in a deliberate effort to kill Vickers. Or not just more random thoughts : )

I think the 'Big Aliens' are the SJs themselves. Some comments on the filming of Prometheus have been made by people not familiar with 'Alien Lore'. I remember someone saying there was a giant head piloting a spaceship. Now we are not sure that is right as the egg/urn chamber where the giant head features is not necessarily a command bridge, more like a growing chamber etc. and the head may not be a pliot at all but merely a statue representing the species being cultivated.

@Biomechanic-I think you're onto something about those screen caps we've seen. It appears that one of the crew members, possibly Shaw brings back an egg/urn with them on board. From the two screen shots of what looks to be the infirmary, they appear to be monitoring/examining the item that was brought back. Maybe this is used against the Space Jockeys near the end of the film. It's certainly a possibility. I have to say I'm really surprised that more people on here aren't discussing the images that were posted a couple weeks ago. I think they leave a lot to the imagination and plenty room for discussion about the movie itself. I'm not as concerned as some of the others on here with Ridley trying to explain what happened to the lone Space Jockey seen in the first Alien as I am with seeing new Space Jockey characters and their interaction with the crew of the Prometheus. I think based on what we'll see in Prometheus, we'll be able to infer what happened to that particular Space Jockey but don't need a straight narrative on the exact events that led to him crash landing on LV-426.

@Biomechanic-Nice find! Too bad the U.S. economy is in the dumps right now, otherwise Project Prometheus would have had a better chance of coming to fruition. I wish space exploration was a higher priority than it is now. Instead, we have to deal with the problems of the world and pointless wars that eat up the funds. Couldn't help but notice the nice Star Trek reference to Deep Space 1. So cool how imagination influences real world situations and inventions.

Is the big head an alien identity or a human one. I guessed if it where part of the human storyline it could be a prequel to 'Mother', perhaps a combination of AI ship control and an artificial brain like Ash and Bishop. If its alien and Gigers got something to do with it ... well then it probably has a penis for a tongue.

ExcessionAlien Fan Art ForumThe Xenomorphs, Space Jockey and Giger's Involvement
I think i remember from the extra features on 'Alien' that Ridley Scott divided conceptual design concepts between various artists in order to get a degree of differentiation and continuality in the final appearence of the movie. Everything 'monster' was Giger, as was the the space jockey and the space jockeys ship. I guess this gives both creatures very similar origins. Ridley loved Gigers work, and ignored studio pressure to change the design of the Alien, and that was when he had only one movie to his name! No-one is going to 'make' him do something he doesnt want to now, and as such I like to think Gigers involvment will be core to the movie. Do we know which other artists are involved with the conceptual design this time round

I didnt like the addition of the idea that an incubating alien takes on some of the charecteristics of its host as in 'Alien 3' . Will ridley even acknowledge the alien queen idea introduced by Cameron (which i did like) and weave that into the story, we just dont know. I think he'll stay clear of any of any of that stuff. The Jockeys body in alien had a mouth and teeth, wouldn't these be unusual if it is a 'suit' in the traditional sense. Can anyone link me up to the script leaks

Its great to see many imaginations coming up with ideas about the Space Jockey. To think of an idea for your answer EXCESSION. I understand what your saying and thought that myself. How could this be a suit? But am sure if it is a suit, the human most MORPH into the space jockey. Although the Jockey is a extremely larger in size compared to a human being so not sure how that is going to work ha. If it does i hope its a great story behind it.

Alien was essentially a simple monster movie - brilliantly made. It was screaming for a sequel, and it got a good one which advanced the story in a good direction, but then things went wrong didn't they. No one has ever had the guts to even try a Bladerunner follow up. It far more complex. it is my fav movie norrowly pippng Alien, Ridley nailed sci-fi twice already, I really hope he can do twice more!

There are a lot of rumours going about. You asked a question about the SUIT? Here was one of many ideas! One of the humans (Cast) uses the SUIT( Space Jockey) to take control of the Space Jockey's bomber ship with samples of there eggs etc. back to earth. Possibly crash lands and ends up as the derelict ship on LV - 426???? It's all up in the air ha......

Don't know if this had any bearing on the choice for a name or not but I found it interesting especially since it is suggested that Prometheus is the name of the ship in the movie: Project Prometheus

You were blown away by Alien Harvest? Are you on a wind up mission? You do realise that piece of shit was made up? It was absolutely terrible and all you people that even considered this a script should be sighing with relief http://twitter.com/#!/jonspaihts/status/97519355125964800 Jon Spaihts puts the Alien Harvest speculation to rest It's been about a year and a half since the Alien Harvest script popped-up online. The script that was claimed to be the Alien prequel script written by Jon Spaihts, and later rewritten by Damon Lindelof into Prometheus. There have been a handful of fake scripts for various other highly anticipated movies in the past, but this one sort of stood out. Although the story was nowhere near as good as any Alien fan would expect, and the story touched some controversial subjects, it just didn't come across as another one of those typical fanboy made-up scripts. And so, unfortunately, this alleged script created a lot of heated debate in forums and websites across the world wide web. Is it real or is it fake? Late last week Damon Lindelof claimed that he'd never heard of Alien Harvest, and now to fina

@ Spartacus - Wow that's awesome that you had the prototype for the original toy. I've been looking for that toy for a while but have not found it at a reasonable price. (I work in the toy industry and collect higher-end toys). When you get a chance take a look at the Alien toy/statue products released by NECA, Hot Toys, and Sideshow collectibles. With your like of Alien and your father's history in the toy world you'll likely appreciate the toys being released now. As for "Alien Harvest", I can't say I like the script...Well to be honest, I thought it was rather boring. So much so that I didn't finish reading it. I got 55 pages in and then realized there was no way this was something Ridley was contemplating. I won't pretend to know how Ridley thinks or plans his work, but that script is really a contradiction of the overall tone in the first Alien movie. By the way, that is the first time I can recall ever stopping in the middle of any piece of material. I always give the writer the benefit of the doubt because I feel he/she still has the opportunity to surprise me in the end. (Just trying to express the extent of my dislike for that particular script.) Still, if you enjoyed the script, that's good! At least you had fun reading it! Just don't get your hopes up for seeing that particular story on the big screen. Its likely to be a fake script.

I think the thing I liked about it was or appeared to be a new ALIEN script and it had many elements that fit with the 4 previous films so I bought into it and I personally read it 3 times and loved it because it made sense...there were some things in it that got me really excited like seeing the Baby Alien Ant Hill and Aliens that looked like the "RESURRECTION" OPENING CREDITS REDO THAT INCLUDED THAT BABY ALIEN. I was excited to see the Space Jockey revisited and with a total explanation that made sense. In the end I think I was just excited that someone understood it was time for a new addition to the franchise and they were smart enough to get SCOTT on board with it. Because if there is one guy on this earth that can create a new and CREDIBLE Alien addition, It is him, and knowing him, I know he's going to make this thing an eye popping thrill ride. And the proof of this was confirmed with his first hire for the project... H.R. Geiger!!! Whether that script was authentic or not is still debatable and anyone that read it and says it wasn't good, IMO and with all due respect, does not know very much about screen writing and how difficult that is or have any clue what so ever about what goes into making a film like this.

I just read the entire Alien Harvest script for the first time and with an open mind because of this thread. Sorry but my opinion is that it is technically a complete mess of a script and has a very uninteresting and at some times laughable story. Alien has its roots in horror but this script seems more like a nerdy soap opera. Nothing in it really seems to line up with what has been leaked from Prometheus thankfully.

Biomechanic- I totally agree that the queen wont feature in the new film/s,that was Camerons vision not Ridley's. As regards to where all the eggs came from? Did the space jockeys grow the eggs themselves or did they also produce victims for the facehugger and the resulting alien then transformed them into eggs? Its the old 'chicken and the egg' problem ha ha

Looking at the leaked pics of Prometheus,it does show someone going through some sort of metamorphosis? Maybe you're onto something there Biomechanic? Its certainly gonna take some creative writing to sort out all these unanswered questions, im praying they do it justice!
