'The vision is Ridley's. That is his strongest quality.' Astromax, I agree with that but... a very good cinematographer has a massive influence on the quality of the picture in the movie.
As an example, another cinematographer Slawomir Idziak, who has worked with Scott on 'Black Hawk Down'. He's been nominated for an Academy Award as well as a BAFTA for 'Best Cinematography' in that movie. I assume that you have seen the movie and you can easily see how well it has been done by Idziak.

I don't think it was a warning in the sense that it meant to warn off innocent passer by's but to reverse psychology on unsuspecting visitors to the pandora's box of mass destruction. Like real Terrorformists

Fuzz bum? I'm really worried now! Noooooooo, grasshopper! Mother did not definitevely say it was a warning as opposed to an SOS! Review you movie. It's a mystery!!!!! Prometheus will not revisit LV426, so the derelict ship will forever remain a mystery, unless some other bloke has the balls to fund a literal prequal to Alien. By making Prometheus, a stand alone film, Ridley is increasing the odds that that will happen. Think about it. Thats a good thing!!!!!

This script would mak a great video game. I mean, can you repair the teraforming device before the shadow 19 copy? Then, the gamer is presented with the ethical dilemma of the destruction of the alien civilation. What do you do?

I did happen to like District 9. Not crazy for it, but I thought it was pretty likeable.
Jurassic Park is what started it all for me... Along with Star Wars (The originals of course.)
12 Monkeys
2001: A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
The Abyss
Alien
Aliens
Avatar
Blade Runner
Brazil
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Donnie Darko
Inception
The Matrix
Moon
Predator
RoboCop
Starship Troopers
Terminator 1 & 2
The Thing
Total Recall
Tron & Tron Legacy
There are quite a few I haven't heard of/ seen yet, so I'll certainly be on top of that!

There can be only one Conan and Total Recall. I mean Conan the Barbarian (1982) and Total Recall (1990) with Arnie. A real classics. I don't understand why people are making remakes. Also I have never been keen on Spider-Man movies. Maybe because of Tobey Maguire. Sorry, but he cannot play any superhero:)

What about Clint Mansell? He wrote music for A for 'Requiem for a Dream', 'The Fountain' (I recommend that film and OST!) and 'Black Swan'.
Others have been mentioned above:
John Williams
Hans Zimmer
Vangelis
James Horner

I have a feeling that Hans Zimmer is going to make a score.
He worked for Scott before:
Black Rain (1989)
Thelma & Louise (1991)
Gladiator (2000)
Hannibal (2001)
Black Hawk Down (2001)
Matchstick Men (2003)
He also wrote music for: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Inception and The Dark Knight Rises (2012).
On the other hand, Marc Streitenfeld, a German film score composer, is also known for his collaborations with Ridley. He made music for Scott's last movies:
A Good Year (2006)
American Gangster (2007)
Body of Lies (2008)
Robin Hood (2010)
ReplyastromaxPrometheus ForumThe Vision of 'Prometheus'Jul 24, 2011
Ridley composes the shot. These guys operate the 3D cameras. Their film resume is meaningless beyond Ridley's decision to choose them based on it. He does not hire them to create the vision. The vision is Ridley's. That is his strongest quality.

I know I've said this before and I'll say it again. Don't worry about Noomi being up to the task of the lead actress. She is not as articulate as Therone or Weaver but remember, English is not her primary language. Rid knows what he's doing. Noomi says Rid sees every movie and has certainly seen Noomi's "Daisey Diamond". It is a difficult movie to watch. It's a very bleak story of a single mother/struggling actress wannabe with an infant that cries constantly. I'm going to put some clips of Noomi in "DD" on youtube tonight (at least one). Check them out. Noomi is the bomb I promise you.

Hmmmmm...maybe Hans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt, or what about James Horner (ALIENS). I don't know, maybe they're too conventional. It's probably better if R. Scott chooses or chose somebody less familiar...capable of producing strange or unorthodox tones, as well as beautiful, melodic pieces...like Goldsmith did. What about Graeme Revell? Who can could it be?
ReplyastromaxPrometheus ForumWho is going to compose the musical score for PROMETHEUS? Jul 23, 2011
Blade Runner's composer Vangelis? Maybe too synthesizerish. In a BR interview Ridley shows great respect for him . Zimmer would be great too. Guess it depends on the style Rid wants, symphonic, contemporary, operatic. I know I'm all over the place. I just don't know. It's hard to believe completion of principle photography is at hand.

If you haven't seen any of the "The Girl" movies with Noomi she's a fantastic actress and is incredible in her role as Lisbeth Salander. I think Scott picked a winner with her as a 'Ripley' like character. She can totally deliver and possibly do better than Sigourney Weaver in the demands that a "Ripley" roll would ask for.

"She's [Shaw] definitely her own [character]"
"She's a scientist and is very bright. She's a believer. I think there are some similarities [to Ripley], but she's very much her own. I don't think people will compare her so much to Ripley once they see the movie."

Ruh don't sell Noomi short. Watch Tattoo. If you have netflix stream it live. It's the best of the 3 movies. Scott it one of the most interesting films in 4 years.
I read that in one brief shot in the Comic-Con clips is Noomi weilding a flame thrower on an Alien. She can be one intense, tough and physical actress.
Look, Ripley is great and the first always feels like the best. Since Shaw is not a Ripley knock-off, Noomi gets a fair shot at it. Scott has been telling folks how impressed he is by her work. Go Noomi !

Thought this Noomi quote was interesting. She plays a scientist, a real believer but this is something beyond that. She adds that
"Prometheus is ever more demanding than the Millenium series. People think Lisbeth Salander was very physical, but there were only a few fighting scenes."
Noomi is now in hard physical training for her part in Prometheus.
"I want to transform my body into something like a cat or a lion. One minute they're resting quietly, and then they can suddenly explode into action. I want to feel like whatever happens I'm prepared"
Sounds like more than a scientist to me.

It's amazing sometimes how you can be blind and not see clear. After reading NEURION'S feedback there, i was thinking. I asked a question about the crashed ship on LV - 426 and how we might find out what happened. But like film of today is never what you think in your head - OBVIOUSLY lol but what i mean is when PROMETHEUS comes out and we see it. You might just say to yourself "Aww yeah that must have been one of the space ships we saw in the film that crashed landed on LV - 426" No big SCOOBY DOO MYSTERY ;) just a simple answer in the end. Am i right??? So thinking too far ahead me thinks ;) Cause my head is now wrecked thinking :P Just strandS of Alien DNA within the film as it was said. Done! End of!

Astromax,
Whether or not “2001” was preachy…I don’t know. I guess it depends on one’s perspective and set of values. Personally, I think it was at bare minimum…intentionally very cryptic and shrouded with vagueness and ambiguity. I like that quality in the film. I wouldn’t mind seeing the makers of “PROMETHEUS” follow that lead or path with the new prequel. As far as “2001” being preachy? I wouldn’t use that word. Maybe “presumptuous”…or perhaps the other way…”dismissive”, in regard to traditional human beliefs or theories regarding creation, origins, and adaptation of Earthly or universal “Life”. Personally, I doubt that non-divine, extra-terrestrials had anything to do with human development…but that’s just me…and probably about 97.5 percent of the world’s population as well.
As far as a “true prequel” is concerned, the so called word “prequel” is a slangy corruption of the actual word “sequel.” The word “prequel” didn’t even exist until the early 1970s. So, a true prequel?…your guess is as good as mine. I think any definition is going to be fairly loose. I just hope that it’s a great film.
Peace,
Neurion

Fassbender says the first 2 thirds of the flic are the intelligence and the final third is the action. So, whe're not going to see Brett early walking the corridors saying, "meowow, here kitty kitty". That tension was insane. It made people in the audience sick, literally. But Ridley says it will be tough and nasty. I for one believe him. Can't wait!!!
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumCrashed Ship In ALIEN linked with PROMETHEUS ending!!!Jul 19, 2011
Yeah Drogie, how bout' the ship piloted by a huge head. There are two things that scare me about Ridley's approach. 3D, I'm old school literally. I remember the flashing subtitles on the movie screen. "Put on your 3D glasses." 3D was for certain shots while the rest of the flic was 2D. Now I didn't see Avatar in 3D so maybe it's no big deal now but every frame in 3D? Scarey! The "head" pilot, is there precedent for that in sifi? Now, my latest question. Filming in Iceland right? It's earths early days right? The only actors who are confirmed to be there are Theron and Fassbender. They said Noomi was coming but that hasn't happened yet? Is Noomi misdirection here? If Fassbender and Theron are on earth during it's early development. You know, to observe the progress of the alien's project? See where I'm going? They both have unusually long life spans and could not have been created by the Company, but by the Aliens who engineered us. 2 Androids? It seems news that Fassbender was an android slipped out with no resistence (press release to counter the idea) from the studio. Both created by the space jockeys? I mean, we find out in the dig where they live, but they have always known where we are or will be. A couple of spys maybe? Surely, their Iceland scenes could be contempoary to the story line or just a gigantic flash forward etc. but.... Lets speculate on what we know, not what we dream. Go back over any interview you have, any video interview especially Fassbender's for MTV and Lindelof's on Kevin Polack's chat show. I'm convinced the answers are in there somewhere.
ReplyGuestPrometheus ForumCrashed Ship In ALIEN linked with PROMETHEUS ending!!!Jul 19, 2011
OK let me go unhinged for a bit. Filming earths early days in Iceland right? The only two actors confirmed to be there are Theron (Vickers) and Fassbender (David). Noomi has been mentioned but has not been there to date. Is Noomi misdirection here? The news of Fassbender being an android leaked early and was never opposed by the studio. "Thou protest too little". If David and Vickers are on earth in the early days of evolution.......see where I'm going with this? We're talking about an unusually long life span, and certainly could not have been created by the company. 2 androids? Is that possible, leaving Vickers to be the surprise, like Bishop was! Thoughts.....
ReplyNeurionPrometheus ForumCrashed Ship In ALIEN linked with PROMETHEUS ending!!!Jul 19, 2011
Please don't be angry with me but...Man…there’s a lot of conjecture and wild or…hopeful extrapolation goin’ on here…
Quote from Ridley Scott:
“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”
And…
Scott promises a "really tough, really nasty" film that involves gods and engineers of space.
"I’ve always felt that really good prequels should be original movies," and the sequels to those prequels should not be the movie which already exists. … Show me something else which I can’t guess the possible outcome of. There is no suspense in inevitability.
"So a true prequel should essentially proceed the events of the original film, but be about something entirely different, feature different characters, have an entirely different theme, although it takes place in that same world.
From script writer Damon Lindelof:
“But I also do feel that this movie is the movie I would want to see as a fanboy, take place in that Alien universe, which precedes the events of the original Alien, but is not necessarily burdened by all the tropes of that franchise with Facehuggers and Chestbursters, and all that stuff that I love… but its sorta like, we’ve seen it before, can we do something different this time?”
…From these cryptic statements, suddenly the Space Jockey’s race…are actually GODS, who created or “engineered” Humanity AND the Alien life forms in at least the original “ALIEN” film. WOW…QUITE A STRETCH! Talk about making a lot out of a little. I’m glad some of you guys don’t work in a courtroom. Kind of sounds like the end of a “Scooby Doo” episode…only "the gang” usually had convincing proof or evidence. Now, I don’t mean to be a “negative Nostromo”…but doesn’t all this seem a little premature or presumptuous? YOUUUUUUU CHOOOOOOSE!
Respectfully,
~Neurion…the Skeptic
ReplyastromaxPrometheus ForumYour thoughts on PrometheusJul 18, 2011
Your comparison of the alien to a hungry lion shows how diluted the alien franchise has become. Thats why Prometheus aspires to be an original story but still within the alien universe. Was 2001 preachy?
ReplyastromaxPrometheus ForumYour thoughts on PrometheusJul 18, 2011
Here are some quotes:
Scott promises a "really tough, really nasty" film that involves gods and engineers of space.
Lindelof: "I’ve always felt that really good prequels should be original movies," and the sequels to those prequels should not be the movie which already exists. …(Thats how we know the derelict ship and LV426 are not what Prometheus leads up to or ends with) "Show me something else which I can’t guess the possible outcome of. There is no suspense in inevitability."
"So a true prequel should essentially proceed the events of the original film, but be about something entirely different, feature different characters, have an entirely different theme, although it takes place in that same world."
So it could be as simple as a shipboard accident and a beacon that could be either an sos or a warning. Mother wasn't definite. It's interesting but It just doesn't matter.

Those questions will not be answered. The synopsis you all refer to would make a great film but it won't be Prometheus. Exactly what do we know about this movie. Fassbender interview said that things are happening and building and the intelligence of the first two thirds of the movie (politics amongst the crew) changes to the action in the final third. Ridley will film in 3D with "lots of innovations never seen before". Lindelof, the screen writer, said no face hugger or chest burster because we've seen it already. The story is completely original to the first alien. "Why would you want to spoil the outcome based on knowledge of the first alien film"? So it won't tie in to the derelict ship or LV426. His tagline for the movie is "Prometheus - or is it?" That suggests that you can't even count on the prometheus mythology for a hint to the story line. "Or can we?" News: "Scott will be in Iceland for two weeks to shoot, as he says, "the beginning of time." 'Prometheus' tells the story of the first contact between the alien gods and their "children," that is, us humans, who were genetically designed by the aliens, and how that meeting goes disastrously wrong".
