dkAlien: Covenant ForumJonesy the Cat Song

I cannot think of Jonesy without being reminded of Hobbes. Here is his song and much relates to Jonesy as a feline:

A Tiger is Fierce, a Tiger is Loyal,

A Tiger is always a friend to a boy.

A Tiger is Brave, a Tiger is Noble,

A Tiger is never reclusive or coy.

If you meet a Tiger, prepare to be awestruck,

For Tigers are wonderful, peachy and keen,

Their Teeth are as sharp as an icicle hanging,

Their Claws stay in use, so they're constantly clean.

A Tiger is Captain of all he can see;

So bow to the Tiger if you would be free.

I especially love this line

"Jonesy, the best cat in the universe
You make us proud, so proud that our chests burst"

@ hox

Since the end of the eighties and in response to a reported increase in the total neutrino flux in the Homestake experiment in coincidence with solar flares, solar neutrino detectors have searched for solar flare signals.  So far, neutrino bursts have not been detected.  Still, scientists are trying to figure out ways to read neutrino release for solar flare signals.  This is as of 2015.

This leads me to explain that neutrinos from solar flares are produced through the interactions of accelerated protons/ions with the chromosphere and the subsequent decays of the produced charged pions.

In addition to producing neutrinos, solar flares emit radiation across the entire electromagnetic spectrum.

All of this is written directly from astrophysicists associated with Cornell University.

How powerful those neutrino's are, I am not sure.  Neutrino's pass through us everyday and everyone is fine.  The crew was apparently fine on the Covenant as well after the "neutrino burst" as well.  I think the damage to the Covenant came with the other radiation across the entire electromagnetic spectrum.  Solar flares are known to cause damage to equipment in space now.

Plus, this is all information from our own sun.  Solar flares can be many, many, many, many, etc., etc. times worse with other stars.  I think it would be safe to assume that there would also be more neutrino's released as well.

Oh, I mentioned in the first paragraph in this post that scientists are trying to find ways of predicting solar flares through measuring neutrino release from our Sun.  As of now, I don't know of anyone who has accomplished this.  This would be very amazing, since people can't predict solar flares as of today.  The best we can do currently is predict a solar flare at the most of 2 days or so.  I don't know how far we could predict solar flares from neutrino detectors either.  So, maybe it isn't very long, but neutrinos do travel at almost exactly the speed of light.

Now, if we remember how technologically advance the people in the Alien universe timeline are and how much they use the space outside of our solar system, I think we could assume that they can predict solar flares through neutrino detection.  So, if someone detects a neutrino burst (an abnormally high release of neutrino's from a specific place), than they could predict a solar flare.  Sadly for the Covenant crew, there was a lot of gravitational interference.  This could possibly be from nearby star clusters that they could have been flying through to possibly avoid supernova explosions.

Plus, if David wouldn't have hacked the Covenant research data (this is my theory, not fact), than the Covenant team would have known that a nearby star was in it's active phase, which would mean a high chance of solar flares which could damage the ship if it wasn't prepared for solar flares.  In the Covenant's case, it wasn't and that is stated in the movie or novel or maybe both.  I can't remember.

Love the poster. It gives me the vibe that Awakening should go to a horror Sci-fi direction.

Great screen grabs. Thanks.

I always thought the little objects escaping from the Engineers looked like swarms of bees or insects. I remember one of the commentaries on the DVD calls them gnats.

So is that what I see swarming all around the Engineers after David drops the black fluid jars on them?

Nicely done! I also like how the lettering looks like it is "evolving" like it does in the movies' openings. Upvoted.

It's just a teaser poster that I felt like doing since I'm always designing stuff. I saw it as a challenge to make something that would be as simple yet effective as possible because I feel like the one thing that would make even the most critical Alien fan want to see Awakening is the promise of a resolution. After all, people have been itching to see the Space Jockey since Prometheus, and the idea of the corpse sitting in that chair, alone in the dark, for who knows how long always struck a chord with me since I first saw the original film. Very haunting in its simplicity and mystery. The "less is more" approach would work for Awakening's art campaign in much the same way as Covenant's 'Run' and 'Hide' posters did, but considering how polarizing Covenant turned out to be, whoever designs the official stuff probably needs to steer away from the xenomorphs as a focal point. I figured you guys would enjoy it since not a lot of people have thought that far ahead fan poster-wise. :)

Tidy solution, I like it. David would make a good android-wizard lol :)

I think that Alien 3 is a great movie although it is tough to get motivated to watch since it is utterly depressing. Resurrection was very enjoyable and had some of the most disturbing scenes of the series at that point- the Ripley failed experiments room and Newborn and its death come to mind.

It would be interesting to see Cameron return to the series one day, but this time doa true horror film, not an actioner like Aliens. I think he could pull off a great horror sci-fi film if he put his mind to it.

Yog Sothoth

I want to tie Ridley Scott up with chains, hold a blow torch to his man sack, and tell him to explain all of this stuff 100% clearly as I take notes, or his nuts get grilled slowly.

lol, Id pay to see that as a movie :P

However I imagine this would be his response.

Interesting thread.

I think I can help with the worm thing. In one of the DVD commentaries Scott or one of the guys who wrote Prometheus says something about the black ooz making them grow from the smaller worms into the larger hammerpede worm. We had some big arguments over on the RPF years ago about that one. There is also a scene of the small worms swimming in the goo in the movie.

I don't know if that has anything to do with the eye worm, but it is definitely said that the small worm and large hammerpede are one and the same.

I’m all for conspiracy. In AC and Alien we have Weyland-Yutani, and in Prometheus we just have Weyland. Something wee seem to have very little knowledge about is Yutani. I’m not too sure how this fits into the overall timeline, but could Yutani have knowledge of LV 426 that Weyland did’nt. Maybe by the time David gets in touch with WY, the company has gained information relating to LV426 from Yutani and unknown to David. I just think that there could be room for some back story on Yutani Whose to say Yutani did not have its own missions going on, and discovering some outpost similar to want happened in Prometheus. Eventually both companies realise that there is an Engineer threat and need to work together. The Nostromo is the means to get what they want.

Does any of this (below) in regards to the constellation, planet data visible, and Galactic Location mean anything to anyone?

I'm sorry if I missed someone's observation on the constellation and star maps. The images above are more clear than what I had seen before.

Great topic from BigDave on Planet 4 in the system.

Excellent topic Kethol. David's drawing is fantastic.

The topic and comments are a great reference guide to the mutagen described by David 8, what he had access to, and his creations.

Great work.

You're welcome Ingeniero :-) and thank you for the compliment on my wordplay. I pride myself on speaking well.

As for my opinion on this matter, I try to take everything Fox has made official canon until the contrary. If it's available through official merchandise then it is canon imo. As to Lindeloff, I would take his view with a grain of salt since he isn't a part of Ridley's table anymore and is speculation. I would also be upset if Origae-6 turned out to be an Engineer home world because then that would be too convenient and Daniels & crew researched that planet to the moon and back and found no other life aside from fauna. As for the defenses on Planet 4, I would throw it up to the Engineers/whatever did not expect in the slightest another species finding their way there on a Juggernaut of all vessels. These are the gardeners of space and for all intents and purposes the creators of life, they have no competition.

I left out the cup going over the waterfall...the image really tied the topic together.

Thank you Lawrence of ArabiaBigDaveAtidkali81, and Space JOC for the discussion. Each of you have a rich contribution and I appreciate every word.

Cosmonaut-Copper, I believe David 8 told Dr. Shaw the Engineers were going to attack humanity to "create" something from humanity's destruction.

David 8 knew more than what he shared with the Prometheus crew regarding the Engineer's plans.

Adding little mysteries is childish and annoying, I hate it. It doesn't help the plot, the atmosphere or anything. It's just fuel for logic and canon geeks like us to fight over for years. The average viewer is just going to shrug and not understand it. The mystery in Alien worked, was well placed and had a reason. The mystery in these prequels is pointless, as they are meant to be explaining things, and they do explain things, but leave these little puzzles of maddening pointlessness. You work out a solution to a mystery and what does it give you? *Oh ...the motes are tiny insects afterall*..and..*So that's exactly how David made the Xenomorph*....and.....*So that's why Milburn stroked the hammerpede*....  WOW THAT'S CHANGED MY WORLDVIEW. Ridley Scott is finished after this. Someone put him in an old people's home please. We don't need a group hug, we are arguing because Ridley Scott is now a crap director. Sadly.

Ha Ha

Indeed Yog Sothoth a more Spoon Fed and Spelt out A-Z would have prevented such debates and such... but then i think the Beauty of Prometheus was its ambiguity, because if the movie was more Spoon Fed etc.. we would not be debating such things over many years on sites like this.

This is the One Come Back that Lindeloff has used in the past when defending his work on Prometheus due to its unanswered and half answered questions... he said that the ambiguity he did has led to many places debating the movie over and over and so he is proud of this.

Lindeloff also did say however that Prometheus has enough answers there, its just they are hard to find  and so take investment of time looking over and over the movie to try and make such theories up.

Every new piece of concept/draft or deleted Scene for Prometheus and Alien Covenant does allow us to go back to Prometheus and then look at the clues over and over again due to the new information and clues we are given after Prometheus came out

I really hope once the Prequels are done... that in time people would got and study and watch Prometheus more and then become more interested in what it was trying to show.
