IRaptus - I like the Empress image very much. A similar creature would look awesome in a live action Alien movie.
Even if I think A:C is pure garbage, since I eared Cameron explaining how Terminator genesis was an amazing movie during its promotional campain, his opinion of what's a good movie became extremely relative...
dk thanks! I though it might be nice to look at some of the less well known contributors to the franchise :-)
hmmm I might see if I can find a few higher-res images though..
Nice post- I have not seen most of this art work.
That was super funny and probably true lol Loved the shower scene.
embed the video for you joylitt :-)
Let me make myself clear---IF the budget allows it, I LOVE "detail". It is fun to watch, rewatch, and continue rewatching a great movie to find all the extra features and "detail". BUT, it simply cannot be done at the risk of the whole story/movie. Whatever it takes, the story/movie has to be the primary focus/attention.
Rick and Morty is way more graphic than that.
dk agreed. One of my fan fictions worked with Egg-morphing and believe me its is very limiting, slow and requires a predictable series of events.
Egg-morphing:
horrifying and suspenseful yes, but dynamic and versatile no
The backburster scene doesn't look like inadequate CGI to me, but it was a little off-putting the first time because I expected (as well as the baby Neomorph) something more mostly practical, but I think it was still well done.
I also didn't notice or have a problem with the Oram chestburster CGI. Sill, that's one of those things that may very well be objectively subpar, but it doesn't bother me at all.
But the most basic point I was trying to make is that cutting the design portion a tiny wouldn't be enough to make the CGI any better. Really, this production needed more money. OR, they needed to re-write to compensate that. I was happy with how the effects turned out and do love all of the detail though.
I like the options of a queen with an established environment with enough hosts to support with the option of a xeno have the capability to morph in a situation like Alien. It makes the creature more versatile.
Some may not notice the level of detail, but I think it is great that it's there for those whom notice. I also suspect they would get hammered for leaving out some details. Just look at how badly past films get criticized because "no scientist would ever do that on a big expensive mission like this 'type of thing'".
Have you listened to The Claypool Lennon Delirium?
Heard a bit. Tracking and will buy soon.
Awesome eldritch horror. Cthulhu monster and all! What's not to like!
Getting to see a Juggernaut fly(and crash) is cool enough.
I loved it when I first saw it, then kind of soured on it after a few years, but came to my senses a few weeks later! So basically, I love Prometheus! I do agree that the performances and score were top notch! I think there was some disdain towards the score, but I LOVE it. Esepcially, "Life". I don't know if I will ever forget seeing the opening shot of that planet and hearing that track. It was one of those things that made me wish I could have seen Alien for the firts time on the bigscreen. In fact, next time there is an opportunity to see it in theaters (doesn't happen very often!) I most definitely will.
The big deal with Prometheus, is that I accepted the big, philosophical scope and the new take on the Alien franchise. Some people were bothered by that whole deal. Plus, I have seen/heard a couple of references about Prometheus (and Covenant now) being reagrded as films that are pseudo-intellectual. I disagree, but it is just an example of how it rubs some people wrong.
So, I can see why a lot of people don't really like Prometheus (some of the flaws are glaring. I can look past most of them or they just don't bother me. There may be objective issues, but it's still a subjective experience. Life is funny that way.)
I believe the Neutrino Burst was, as Faris put it, bad luck. Funny how in this Sci-Fi, nihilistic world that fate is still a thing.
I find it hard to believe that David caused the Neutrino Burst or whatever it was.
He would have no way of knowing when The Covenant was in a close enough sector to hit it, and hit it with what? Maybe the Jugganaut had a weapons system that could create an energy blast like that, but it was crashed for 10 years on Planet 4.
The golden structure on top of the dome on Planet 4 could be some sort of weapons system/defence mechanism.
Even if David did cause the blast, there's no way he could've controlled how much damage was done to The Covenant. It could've been completely destroyed.
Totally agree with Timmy the Ultramorph here, Cameron made the Alien less scary and formidable, made them into mindless drones rather than the perfect killing machine that David is striving for. He undone Ridley Scott's masterful portrayal of something that was never seen before by making Aliens a Hollywood shoot em up! I'm glad someone noticed too about the selective acid blood ha, Vasquez was an idiot too, totally ridiculous over the top B movie stuff
ali81 Cadavar Spore's I reckon.
When a neomorph dies its bodies breaks out in new spore pods rendering any environment it is killed potentially ever more dangerous. Every time a neomorph dies opens the door for a host of new ones!
I love Prometheus, it's probably my favourite sci-fi film, it's pure escapism when you're watching it because it looks and feels like an actual planet or world. I know some characters might have flaws but Fassbender and Noomi Rapace more than make up for it! On that point, show me a single alien movie that doesn't have character flaws, who cares that Milburn and Fifield were a bit dumb, they got what they deserved for being dumb, it's not like they got away with it! Prometheus is a 10/10 in my book and nothing will change my mind, I watch it regularly! It opens up the Alien world to and adds to the lore!
NOT ENOUGH ALIENS!!11!!
For real though, it is one of my favorite sc-fi films and a great start to Ridley's Alien prequels. I like how it isn't so on the nose that it is an Alien prequel plus the themes reverberate throughout the franchise. And yes, David is a very compelling character that is masterfully brought to life through Fassbender. Nobody could play this role like him.
james cameron turned the xenomorphs into highly defeat able creatures. also, he only semmed to make them have acid blood when the minor character shoot at them. there is a scene were vasques is in a vent with a xenomorph and she shoots it point blank into the head and she is not burned.
Timmy the ultramorph I see your point. Aliens had quippy characters too but they balanced it out nicer with the darkness. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it. Each film added something different to the franchise.
Lawrence of Arabia hahah awesome!!
Timmy the ultramorph its classic Joss Whedon humour....though heavily bastardised
Yeah. your right. Although what if those weird spikes in the ground on lv 426 were actually alien plant life that was destroyed by the black goo?
although i enjoyed a few charectors from resurrection, They sort of just made the movie lightharted to me. thats just my opinion.
Yog Sothoth in the Advent clip David says he now his queen, not a queen. That could just mean that like Shaw (who was the experiment) Daniels may be harvested for eggs (production).
So, that doesn't necessarily mean there will be a xenomorph queen, just Daniels will be the figurative queen used to produce eggs. That line feels like it is a deliberate gut-punch to Cameron's queen. You want a Queen? this is the only queen you'll ever get in my Alien films.. XD

The black goo pathogen works in a similar way to the egg-morphing process breaking-down organic mass, to create something new, so perhaps this is where Riddlers is taking us?
Personally I prefer Eggmorphing but I have no problems with a xeno queen either.
As evidenced in Covenant, the black goo only affects non-botanical life forms, so it wouldn't have affected the climate and topography of LV426.
You see in the WY timeline there is a deleted / restricted E.Shaw transmission.
Also the phobos hint to knowledge.
If it turns out in the novel, a certain captain might get a dodgy pod as his 2nd in command is 40% more likely to go ahead with a ground crew. could be bad luck. the novel may shed some light.
Not only that David has codes for Covenant. Maybe Did MU TH UR report the burst as that only really it was a different less likely event. However processed in a way were no questions arise.
His well organised appearance "to save them"
"so many good souls" line. He knew.
Alen Awakening is his sheep awakening from cryo
Eggmorphing is an utterly silly concept. I NEVER want to see it in an Alien movie, at least not in a theatrical release version. It doesn't make sense biologically. One species (e.g. a human being) cannot be transformed into another species or into something that is part of another species' life-cycle. In the director's cut of "Alien" no explanation is given as to how the process of transforming Brett and Dalles into eggs was started and how it works. What kind of catalyst is used? Was it provided by the xenomorph? I repeat: Eggmorphing is silly. It should best be forgotten!!!
Oh yea, they wore it when they fought the Xeno on the Covenant ship.
I don't even remember where the Covenant crew wore the suit featured in this thread.
I remember Tennessee wearing the bulky, yellow one to fix the solar sails.
When did the crew where the other suit?
They wore different gear once they landed on "Paradise". I guess that gear is called their Expedition Uniform.
cuponator3000 I totally agree with your assessment.
I Moon Girl The Nostromo crew wore for about as long as they do in Covenant. It's just the aesthetics of the Alien suits to be detailed lol If they weren't, it wouldn't feel a part of the same universe. I thought the acting in Covenant was fantastic even if they weren't all A-Listers. That's my opinion though, like how I thought the CGI was great. Idk how anyone could say the back burster scene was bad but eh.
@IRaptus & @Starlogger
I agree on that the backburster was bad CGI
Plus, the scene where Oram gets chestbursted could have been better too.
Thanks
I think you're right that the Engineers look different on "Paradise" for a reason.
When the neomorph attacked Rosenthal, that scene could have had better CGI. I remember when I saw that scene in a trailer, I thought that it was horrible CGI, but it was much better in the actual movie.
All of the facehuggers where great!
Maybe Ridley should put more responsibility on the actors and spend less on details?
I'm don't watch all kinds of Ridley Scott movies, so I didn't know that he puts a lot of details in all of his movies until now.
The problem with the A:C spacesuit is I don't remember them wearing it to much. There where two suits that I know of. There is that giant yellow one which has bearings in it and the one featured in this thread. I just don't remember the crew wearing either one very long at all. Does anyone remember it any differently? If not, then all this detail is created for maybe 5 min. of screen time.
When the Nostromo crew went to investigate the alien ship, they wore those suits for quite some screen time, so I could see more detail being important there.
All that detail would make a really good "Behind the Scenes" or "The Making of..." movie for the actual movie, but cutting these expenses out to spend more in other places or to spend less overall was another option I feel was ignored in A:C.
would def like some pieces from the crossing to open up the film.
