joylitt LOL- I saw that. I am unsure of what the interaction with the Queen would be. Maybe a role as lighting engineer might be a safer role. I guess t would be up to BD's over all vision.

VivisectedEngineer Very practical outlook. Maybe sitting IN the guitar case could cover all the bases.

BigDaveAlien: Covenant ForumHey, raise your hands - who has NOT seen Alien:Covenant?

Its a polarizing kind of movie....

I would have seen the Movie first, then you would see the Book and think of how it could have improved the movie, so you would see the book as a improvement... rather than the movie being a disappointment.

Each to their OWN though ;)

I can see why the movie had flaws, and what attributed to it being so and a lot has to do with FOX cracking into some Fan Pressure and also FOX not giving enough Budget for the movie but over spending on Marketing.

Books will always appear better, as people can use their own imagination for how things appear, and with books you are not restricted to the constraints of fitting every detail and dialog into a 2 hour or so Movie.

As far as the lack of Security...

I assume this and the reaction of the Engineers points to a few things for me..

These Engineers or those who are above them, seed and evolve life on Worlds, but while they teach them knowledge they teach them limited knowledge thus keeping these Humanoid Races at a Technological Level that Earth was at Thousands of years ago.

These beings on Planet 4/Paradise also seem to be kept for the most part at this level of Technology.  For those at the Top of the Hiearchy and their Agenda and who they intrust with their Technology this is a good Safety Procedure.

the Hubris of these beings is they feel that they are so Superior and their creations are in superior that without the Engineers and Hierarchy Help, and knowledge that their created/evolved Humanoid subjects will never evolve to such Technological Levels without the Help of the Engineers.

This is why maybe they are so relaxed, the other reason is that this Planet could be some kind of Gene-Pool the Engineers either use to Seed Worlds from, or they seeded Worlds in the hope to create a Hybrid to Procreate with.

I would therefore ponder that the Juggernauts Original Purpose was merely a more modern version of the Seeding Ships.

Seeding Ship, some Many Hundred Million or more years ago drops off Engineer who takes the Sacrificial Goo to disintegrate himself into particles that contain his DNA and either reform to start building blocks of Evolution or contaminate basic organism to kick start to advanced more than single cell Evolution.

From a Technological Point of view, if you could break down Engineers/Humanoid DNA store the resulting broken down matter into Urns/Jars.   Then Drop these off a Waterfall, then would the same events of Prometheus happen?

I think so, and so it makes more sense to store the broken down Engineer/Humanoid DNA Mutagen in these Canisters rather than rely on a Fresh Sacrifice to break down into this material on a world.

The Engineers can then visit worlds, or even worlds where there is Life of all sorts on them, and drop these Seeding/Evolution Bombs upon them... rather than venture down on the Surface.

I think maybe this was the intention of the Juggernauts, its why the Mural is how it is in Prometheus as something contaminated those Urns to Produce the Fresco Monster which the Engineers then took a liking too and Experimented on and then Sacrificed to use  its DNA in the Urns and not HUMANOID.

If the Juggernauts were originally Seeding Ships that collect Sacrifices who then are broken down and stored into Urns, this explains the whole Hanger and those Statues.

If this was the Purpose of the Juggernauts, then this would explain why the returning Ship was not feared, but welcomed.

It would also explain the lack of defense on that Planet, and also explain why as War-ships does the Juggernauts lack any Offensive and Defensive capabilities.

They would not be needed if these Engineers Seed Worlds to create Life, and sometimes intelligent Life, but keep a eye on them and keep a check on them to maintain they remain Technologically very Ancient.

Any signs of them Advancing and behaving against their wishes, so even as Mankind on Earth was say few hundred years ago... then simply flying over with the Juggernauts which would not need any Defense or Offense to deal with a Primitive culture.

They just drop a Cargo of Engineer/Humanoid DNA and again (if we follow how Prometheus showed us, and Spaights Alien Engineers deft)  just drop those Urns down...

And all Life would get mutated and Re-set but would contain Engineer/Human DNA and so would just be like a Re-set switch.

Thanks! Omg, I know! I literally told the baker "I love it so much I'm gonna die." lol.

I am really enjoying the Art and Making book! It's interesting to read each of the actors' perspectives on their characters, and to see the CGI concepts of the scenes before they were shot. (Also, I knew Fassbender had used Spock as a reference for Walter. There were times I was thinking he sounded just like Spock, down to his accent).

I didn't see the bit about Bishop and Brett! What page?? I'm a big fan of Bishop.

Haha, trust me, Ati, there is no way I'm going to forget that date. I have that day off work, as it's my most important religious holiday.

I feel like I should probably take that as some sort red-flag, but this fandom just keeps me marching towards distraction and temptation like an unwary crew towards a deceptively Earth-like planet.

If I fall to temptation and God asks me why I spent the day at home watching Covenant rather than at the temple praying, I'm going to blame you, Ati :P

I think its all a bit ambiguous i also wonder if those working on the movie put much thought into these things, i missed the crashed Docking Ship in the movie as i only saw it 3 times, and once its out on other Formats than in the Box Office i can then look at pause the scenes.

But someone did post a image of it crashed in the background and indeed their was the comments from the Concept Team mentioning a Dust Up.

The Concept works had some extras ideas, some showed the Hanger was Larger and held at least 4 Juggernauts, and they was put in disabled mode due to the Bombardment as a Safeguard...  This i feel was a bit of a loose end, however it could explain the Juggernaught could be dis-activated and crash as a Safety Protocol is engaged but i fail to see why the Docking Ship would also crash due to this.... Also if there was more Juggernauts then surely David after a period of time could Turn off the Safety Device and Activate those other ships.

So looking at the Movie, it appears the Hanger is just the right size to allow a Juggernaught to Enter and this Hanger Started to Open as the Juggernaught Approached.

I will assume the Hanger either holds One Juggernaught, or that it was empty when the Juggernaught with David/Shaw arrived.

I would assume either the Hanger Auto-detects the Juggernaught or David sends a Signal to Open the Hanger.

I will assume the Docking Ship is Manned to some degree and realise the Hanger has been activated and a Juggernaught is incoming but then maybe they try to communicate with the Juggernaught and do not get a response or one they are satisfied with and so as a Safety Check the Docking Ship moved to Dock with the Juggernaught so that it acted like a Border Security or Immigration/Customs at a Airport.

Who knows if the Juggernaught is then controlled by the Docking Ship, or David moves to dock with it.... i would assume its automated because of Davids Location when the Bombardment happened compared to the Control/Pilot Room on the Juggernaught... unless Shaw was controlling it?

But then why could the Docking Ship not override the Juggernauts Cargo Opening and disable it... This ALAS is just a Plot Device needed to show David Bombarding the Engineers.

Wayne Haagg seemed a bit surprised they used the Mother Ship as he referred to it as, so at some point they may have considered just showing David arriving and the Hanger opening up and then Bombarding the Engineers.  This route would by-pass having to explain why the Mother-ship could not disable the Juggernaught....  if there simply was intended to be no Docking Ship.

But having the Docking Ship does then give us a Few Options as far as being able to Speculate if the Docking Ship Caused the Juggernaut to Crash  (which now seems LIKELY) and it also leaves it open to speculate if David got some Engineer Bodies to Study and Experiment on from the Crashed Ship that Avoided the Bombardment.

The other option for this would be those who made it to the Safety of the Cathedral as they was all trying to enter this place.

Covenant is a fantastic film that, imo, feels like a love letter to the franchise as it encapsulates the original four films and Prometheus while still bringing something new to the table. I love David as the protagonist/antagonist, it's such an interesting route and I can't wait to see where it goes next.

BigDave I am glad to see that you take the news seriously. Because some people were trying to label them as "fake news", disregarding the fact that The Hollywood Reporter is an Industry insider publication which would not publish something like that if it was not true. I think the right thing to do would be to warp things up in one single movie that gives closure to the David character, but without letting him monopolize the movie. And after that, start fresh with new stories post Ripley.

so again i think indeed FOX have a lot to Re-assess, i dont think it means they will Scrap a Sequel....  I think they are pondering should we Cut this down to One Prequel that connects more to Alien, so again skipping another movie like we had with AC... In order to drive the Plot more Directly connected to Alien.

Then depending how this re-assessed sequel does, they can then decide to leave the prequels alone and explore Parallel Stories or even then go the route of a Alien Sequel, be it set after Alien, or Aliens or Alien 3 etc... and depending where will decide which Franchise Movie/Movies are knocked from Canon.

As right now here is what we have if we look at timeline of events...

1st Prometheus (First Prequel)

2nd Prometheus The Crossing (Prologue that could been 2nd movie)

3rd Alien Covenant (the 2nd Prequel)

4th Alien Awakening (the planned 3rd Prequel).

5th Alien Prequel Climax (the connecting movie to Alien).

FOX have gone the route to by-pass number 2, which is the events between Prometheus and Alien Covenant.

Maybe they could now be pondering by-passing of sorts the movie between Alien Covenant and the Final Prequel movie that connects to Alien... this By-passing/tone down the plans for Alien Awakening.

I think this is something they could be assessing.

They will also be taking on board the reaction of Fans, to how the Xenomorph was in AC, Davids Role and Character, the Engineers or lack of and also maybe also considering is the Cameron's ALIEN and Ripley Connections something that they feel could bring the Franchise back on course?

I for One think that NOW THEY HAVE MADE THEIR BED... they have to Lie in it and carry on with Davids Story and Arc and not be tempted to Sweep him under the carpet like Dr Shaw and the Engineers were and even worse Crack to the Pressure to Make these Prequels Tie in to RIPLEY... No Thanks.

Well said DK... indeed PM is best way to handle personal things like that...

Right i will try and contribute to this Topic, but this could be a mess because i am like a Brainless Zombie at the Moment :( So i cant concentrate much and feel drained all the time, hence lack of activity for a week.  But Zombie Meds are Drs Orders :(

I know there has been a few Topics and News about regarding the Future of the Franchise, and some are pointing to FOX having to rethink the Future..  I think this does not mean they will not make another movie.. i think they are assessing do they MAKE THE NEXT ONE... Tie up most of the Lose Ends to Alien.

They do not want to end up going a 2 sequel route to get to Alien and then have the next Stage Alien Awakening  Bomb Badly or even disappoint as much as Alien Covenant did, this is in terms of reception and amount of Profit made.

Making a AA that leads open to another sequel just as how AC is leaving it open for another Sequel... Puts FOX in a difficult postion.

They surely can not ignore AC and Proceed with a different Prometheus Sequel, or even a Rebooted Prequel that ignores Prometheus and Alien Covenant... But this approach is not totally out of the Question.  But its likely they cant leave the end of AC how it is and how it has shown David and the Black Goo from Prometheus has lead to the Start of the Xenomorph and that David and his Creation are hinted to link to Alien.

They cant just by-pass a direct Alien Covenant Sequel that follows what happened to David and the Colony Ship Covenant...  But then again they can pull a AC... in that they can have AA set after David has set up shop on Origae-6 or where ever they are going and not cover the 7 year events between.

But they simply cant just ignore AC, and give us a movie that does little or nothing to cover David, the Covenant, the Colonist and Davids Experiments.....

BUT HERE IS THE PROBLEM...

with the Reception AC got, and some complaints for various things, FOX are surely now re-assessing how to take the Franchise to connect to ALIEN if the journey from AC to Alien means that AA has to cover David and the Covenant and his Creation but would still need a 3rd MOVIE to tie to Alien..

The Problem is if this next movie Alien Awakening Fails to do well and even worse if it fails to match Alien Covenant as far as how disappointing it did... Then it SIMPLY leaves them DEAD AND BURIED...   The only options then would be Avoid the Franchise and Re-boot it down the road which would be a bit Silly, as they have to Stick to their Guns with the Journey they wish to now take... otherwise the other TWO Options are to again,  Have Faith, try and learn from mistakes and invest again in another Potential 3rd movie FLOP.  Which if AA fairs no better than AC, then the risk is that the 3rd and Final Jigsaw to Piece it all together to Alien, will likely not succeed either and FOX would have Wasted Years and $$$ Millions on a Flop Alien Prequel.

so continuing the Story from AC to AA that then needs another movie is a bit of a gamble considering how disappointing AC was.

The Other Option would be to cover a Movie next that directly Ties to ALIEN and so covers a lot of the ideas they would have for the 3rd Alien Prequel movie, but in a way that leaves it open for a 3rd movie to actually cover the events after AC

This ^^^ could seem a more logical step, but if this Movie Flops then depending what its showed as far as the lead up to Alien, and any Questions relating to David, Engineers, and LV-223 and Paradise etc... if there are Questions left that seemed they needed a movie set Prior to Answer them  (i.e what Alien Awakening maybe is intended to be) then we get again a bit of a disappointment of missing any Gaps.   Should they decide to Pull the Plug after going a more direct Alien Tie in movie that leaves Questions remaining from Prometheus, AC and what happens a lot between 2104 and 2122.

"Because, honestly, in Covenant he is more relatable with so many human characters being so dumb!"

Lol, have you met humans? On the whole, we're pretty dumb, especially when faced with unexpected stressors... I guess that's why David's so pained with us, it's kind of a wonder we've survived this long.
