from the list there isn't a single thing that would make me want to buy the blu ray simply for deleted scenes.
chli, I think as david says there are many variations of the mutagen. unless RS takes us back to see the connection between the engineers and the substance then wel never know what is truly going on and I very much doubt wel get the full potential for the engineers shown in future instalments
ali81: An interesting possibility, but can we be sure that the engineers worshipped this creature? Couldn't the mural be just a depiction of what needs to be done in times of need, that is war or wiping out civilisations that have gone astray (David has learnt this from them)?
To bring a living egg to their home world would indeed be dangerous unless the sacrifice needed to create the xeno was part of the cult connected to the temple? The temple might have been very closely sealed when the unlucky victim (engineer/human) was exposed to the egg? On the other hand, why create the xeno when it's enough to just expose enemies/civilisations to the mutagen/pathogen (which David does)?
hopefully we find out but I very much doubt RS will be going indepth into the engineer civilisation or history
after another look at the stone head it indeed does look like an Engineer 223 / Sacrificial Engineer and not an "Elder"
So maybe it is in the image of the Sacrificial Engineer that seeded life on Planet 4. The same way as in the Prometheus intro. As a mark of respect possibly?
My theory is that "The Elders" CREATED these beings to seed life etc..
If this is the case then maybe "The Elders" see them worthy enough to allow a statue to be built to remember their creations sacrifice.
Although i do feel there could be more to it than that.
Welcome the xenoburster!!
In a nutshell, the infection stage resulting in the birth of a Bloodburster follows a rapid gestation progression.
Those who have had read the novelisation may have more to offer but my understanding is that after the initial mote infection the host's health deteriorates pretty rapidly with them sweating, vomiting (including blood) and convulsions.
Convulsing increases, host becomes withdrawn and unresponsive. Convulsion and vomiting blood may be a result of their cells and DNA be broken down by the black pathogen and their organs failing.
Bloodburster then escapes violently from the host.
BD, I most definitely agree that david had nothing to do with the events that lead to the damage of the covenant. I do though see how some could argue that he does. as stated in the movie this sector was scanned and no planet was detected to be a possible planet for colonisation which suggest that the events regarding the covenant aren't just coincidence. the ship is badly damaged and they just so happen to detect a planet that's perfect yet wasn't detected before now. for me, I just don't think david was aware of the covenant. I believe he was expecting someone to come but not for a very long time. however long it took for his signal of shaw reaching a human colony and for them to send someone.
hox, 'cup of tea, maam' has a whole new meaning to me now
the faces would suggest this world is not the original home world of the engineers, unless they r created simply to honour those of significant importance among their race
I don't believe the planet we see is the engineer homeworld. to me its a world which was seeded by them but where this civilisation differs from humanity is these creations have evolved in an agreeable way that does not require the engineers to return and destroy them. the engineers, like earth, return every so often to give their creations a boost in their evolution, either a spiritual boost or a technological one. to the inhabitants we see in AC, this is simply their creators returning which is why the ship is welcomed. they don't know WHO is onboard or what their agenda is until it is too late.
not much point in buying the blu ray. iv heard the list on youtube and most of the scenes described and they don't interest me one bit. deleted scenes of the surviving neomorph or the xeno v neo battle would but other than that its just people talking. boring imo
it has been said that the engineers in some way may worship the original form of the xeno and the reasons behind this must be something we cannot comprehend. I mean the organism as we know it wipes out any other species so why worship it unless the original form is something completely different. originally RS wanted the xeno to evolve into an intelligent species able to communicate and what we saw in alien was just the xeno in its adolescent stage where its purely aggressive but would later calm and become said sentient, intelligent life form. maybe the original form that the engineers worship is like this? if not then it wouldn't make any sense for the engineers to have eggs on their planet. they would obviously be aware of the threat the creature poses to them. they may worship it but surely their not stupid
I agree, Thoughts_Dreams. Thanks, VivisectedEngineer.
I wonder how RS intends to sew all of this together? Will the eggs and the Space Jockey on LV-426 have been there for only 18 years, and who will be sitting in the pilot chair of The Derelict - David?
Wouldn't it be nice if RS went back in time to tell the story of what happened on LV-223 about 2000 years prior to the happenings in Prometheus? The story behind the outbreak which leads to a juggernaut leaving LV-223 (with something in the cargo hold) and crash landing on LV-426?
are u meaning the neomorph?
man created david. engineers created man. david sees himself as perfect and the engineers/ man imperfect. he is the future and that as he is perfect, only his creations matter. plus an engineer ripped his head off so its pure revenge baby. but I don't buy into the idea the engineers r gone. it would be logical to assume that. being an ancient race and capable of long distance space travel, they have spread and colonized many worlds. as RS has said, the engineers will return to find out what happened on paradise and will probably be very, very pissed
vivisected,i made the daft mistake of buying the hardback off amazon after clicking the 'look inside button' which depicts the book to be in English, only to receive the book and its in Italian but I have ordered the paperback, looking forward to reading it.
auximenes, I have often theorised that at some point (it may have already happened) that synthetics have taken over the company. david may be the catalyst for this and it would also add more fascination to resurrection as its clear synthetics are hated by humans in that time period so makes u wonder what happened. just nit picking a bit but HAL in 2001 didn't act out of self awareness. as his creator in 2010 explains, he told to lie to the crew and to keep the true nature of the mission secret at all costs. he didn't know how to lie and simply tried his best to interpret his orders and act accordingly. ash and david seem very comfortable in the actions towards humans where HAL I believe never intended to do harm, he just didn't know what else to do to carry out his orders
iraptus,who was sam merlot?
Well, this is very interesting, I am intrigued by this event, AVPGALAXY has already published their online from World Premiere interviews made in LONDON, but no SCIFIED. When are they expected?
David is serving up the classic sci-fi 'dangers of self-aware AI' like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Terminator. I like how he was written to realize immediately after being activated that he was superior to his human creators and that they should be terminated to eliminate the potential threat.
I skimmed through this thread and I completely agree with what I've seen. It seems like people expected the characters in AC to be able to break the 4th wall like Deadpool.
Oram looking into the egg was still stupid though.
Another shameless bump. I said that I would in the OP.
Merlin, mind blown! Awesome origin theory @carbonite! I'm still not sure what I'm seeing in that mural as it's tied to the mysterious goo and all its variations/possibilities. As for lurking, "the fog comes on little cat feet"
A poster sounds groovy! Think we're an easy bunch to please, mostly
The last engineer ripped his head off so come on.......plus he hates everybody now equally as he's portrayed as a Nazi SS/Lucifer/pan flute aficionado.
He spent that budget stuff on David and We are Walter, it's just so misguided imo. Those promo shots of Walter being created and him interacting have to be expensive. However they used a different special effects creature studio from London for Prometheus. Hope it's a great Blu-ray set for you guys but I don't think there is ever going to be a director's cut. My guess is Ridley has on contract the rights to edits or making a director's cut. Prometheus could have used one or just been made for the hell of it/extra cash but I believe it's tied to Scott's ego.
@hox
Yes, that David despises Weyland and humanity in general is very clear.
The bit I like is the extended conversation on "Entry of the Gods into Valhalla" where David explains that the Gods are doomed even as they enter Valhalla. I think it probably foreshadows David's eventual fate.
In the Prometheus drafts.... David mentions about how he was disappointed when he first met his Creator (Weyland)
I only saw the movie 3 times, and its been a while since i last saw it...
They called it a Neutrino Burst and this is what the Scene is called (Music Track) but a Neutrino Burst would only really apply to a very powerful and somewhat random Stella Activity that would be a Star going through a very powerful event and thus BIRTH/DEATH of a Star.
But who knows if the guys who wrote all this had taken into context what a Actual Neutrino Burst is. Its been a while for me to remember every dialog from the movie, i do recall, well as far as i can recall it was explained as a Solar or Stella Shockwave. or something.... which could mean some kind of Massive Solar Flare... but then it could be a Super Nova
I dont recall it being 100% explained, as this was just a Plot Device, to allow the Ship to have to be repaired so that Tennessee receives that transmission in static and can kind of make out a tune... which they then play back on the ship.
It depends how Scientific we try to get, as if this was a Super Nova and the Shockwave was from one of these, it would not have had that effect unless its really close by... well not many light years away.
I fail to see how David would have had any knowledge of this event happening let alone having anything to do with it.
I will say as far as MUTHUR that there could be something going on as far as AI behind the Scenes... the Prequel Novel will most likely touch upon this, as there are some parties involved who wanted to and attempt to sabotage the Covenant Mission.
For MUTHUR to accept this David Code, means its either a imbedded Secret Code, or at some point when David arrived on the Covenant he must have programmed a Code/Order and then activated it latter on.
The Covenant Mission was 7 years from Origae-6 we do not know the Speed of the Covenant as we do not know how far Origae-6 is. What i can assume is the Covenant has travelled so many years before it at least had to make ONE RECHARGE... i cant quite remember 100% but i am sure a reference was made to the next Re-Charge being in 1.5 years?
Unless they are changing the Time-line... the Weyland-Yutani Merger happened about 5 years prior to the events of Alien Covenant and thus the Covenant had been travelling for i would say at least 1.5 years before the Neutrino Burst, but no more than about 5 years.
I think the sets looked good, remember Alien sets on the ship were basic but looked the part, some had said Prometheus looked to Advanced and so with AC they was trying to give us some middle ground.
I agree some of the lighting may not be to everyones cup of tea, but some of this could be down to Editing... well post Shooting, we have to remember the Sets are not exactly the same as we see in the Movie.
Digital Photo Editing is added after to play with colors and airbrush out etc scenes, Wayne Haagg had a lot to do with setting the tone etc to scenes.

Here is a Good Example.. and so you can see a lot of the detail, clouds, lighting are all adjusted compared to the actual Set that was shot.
Many Scenes did have a bit of a colour problem, some scenes had a yellow haze/hue to them.
I do think some of the CGI work was not as good as it could have been but then we have to remember the Budget was $97M now Prometheus with inflation would have been $144M and so taking that into account Covenants Budget would be like if Prometheus when shooting in 2011 only had $87M to play with...
So i think its a shame that Alien Covenant was not going to be given a $150M Budget i think we would have seen some differences then.
I think a big problem is the same as those who have read the Alien: Covenant Novel and then looked at how it delivered more than the Movie did....
Prometheus Draft by Lindeloff was not to bad, it explained some scenes better, had more to the reasons behind Fifield and Milburn scenes to make them not look as dumb.
Sadly when a movie has to be shot, changes get made and RS is also someone who can come to set one day and the night before or even on set he can have ideas of things to change and so last minutes changes are made.. And also when working on shooting their is a limited amount of scenes that can be shot. If the Novel of AC was shot scene by scene in that detail of the Novel the movie would not be 2hr 4Min long and the same goes with the Prometheus Drafts.
I can understands some of you points though THOUGHTS_DREAMS i really have to finish off my Prometheus re-write which is stopped a few years back, this certainly had a more Alieny Feel but not to much.
The Fifield attack in my re-write would have had a more Xeno-Hybrid Look and then he attacks a crew outside and gets shot to bits and falls onto the crew member and Acid Blood Melts this crew... it was a kind of re-insert of the idea in Alien Engineers when Vickers has Fifield fall on top of her after he was shot to bits.
Milburn also had a Chest Buster and a Hammerpede gets killed to reveal tiny Eggs..
I think this kind of does give us some indication of what the Black Goo was intended for... but this now adds to why those Engineers was seemingly not even one bit cautious of the returning Engineer Ship that David was on.
Its a bit of a NOD that the Engineers had created this Pathogen to destroy... But then surely dropping Sacrificial Goo would also destroy life on a World and Re-set a World that they had invested Millions of years to prepare and evolve.
The Black Goo just seems a very flawed Method of Cleansing.
Unless it was the creation by a Faction of Engineers to be used in some form of retribution where only Destruction was their Agenda.
I was always draw to such a Faction seeing the Xeno-strain DNA i.e Mural Organism being more Perfect DNA/Creation than the Engineers themselves and so they decided to use its DNA rather than their own to Seed/Evolve Worlds.
So i was drawn to the Original intention for those Urns was to contain Engineer DNA which would explain the whole Paradise Set up and how they did not appear to have any fear of the returning Juggernaught.. but that this ship would take part in a Sacrificial Ceremony where some of these beings would be Sacrificed to allow for Seeding Goo within the Urns.
@dk
I understand what you mean but I think it's reasonable that some things aren't going to make the final cut for pacing reasons.
Plus, no matter how detailed a movie is fans are always going to have questions.
Also, the Jon Spaihts script is written before the movie was shot, and it's my understanding that most of the novelizations are based on the original scripts for the film.
I'm sure even after reading the scripts and novels we will generate questions.
I personally liked Prometheus, but I am interested in reading that script.
The face in this one looks like some of the Engineer Concept works for Prometheus.

I would have thought some of the Death Scenes we could have seen extended versions, as apparently there was extended scenes that was more gory than we saw in the Theatrical which included a more graphic (longer nudity) Shower Scene.
@Lady Anne
I can see your frustration, for me a Larger Budget and more Practical Effects could have made a big difference as some of the CGI was way below par for a WELL KNOWN Franchise movie.
Indeed some of these are very Dead Space/The Thing.
The Trilobite Bursting Scene looked insane and pretty much similar to the alternative Holloway Concepts when he was Chest Busted in Alien: Engineers by Jon Spaights.
Oh as far as O'Bannon goes his final concept before they turned to HR Giger is this one.

Which is maybe not to different to the Prometheus Fresco Creature.
Lawrence of Arabia I agree and would love a Prometheus novel. Like you said there is a lot subtlety and ambiguity in the film, that could be fleshed out and explored just a little more in a companion book. If the book also spent a little more time to develop the characters backgrounds, motives, decision-making it would be a fascinating and enlightening novelisation I think.
I think it is unfortunate that a novel has to explain things that should have been explained in the movie especially if the novel is written after the fact.
I whole-heartedly agree about the Milburn and Fifield scene. It struck me as very believable human behavior. It's not like the characters know they're in a horror movie.
Just the other day I was out for an evening walk and I saw this weird giant beetle thing crawling along the curb. It looked strange and interesting and I like animals, so I leaned down real close to stare at it for a while. Most of Milburn's animal encounters had probably been equally uneventful, up until that moment in his life.
Also, for all of us longing for a Prometheus novel: about half an hour ago some random dude who was sitting next to me in this cafe and started talking to me after noticing I was watching Alien^3 on my lap-top, told me that we all need to read the Alien: Engineers script by Jon Spaihts.
According to him it is AMAZING and will answer all of our questions and fill in all the blanks regarding Prometheus.
I'd buy a Prometheus novel. Aside from the gorgeous visuals, I thought the writing was pretty good and would love a companion book like they did Covenant. People give Milburn and Fifield a lot of crap for their questionable decision making skills but I thought it was pretty sound and actually pretty funny. Fifield had the pups map the interior but he didn't have a map himself, he also wasn't too bright it looked like and impulsive. Milburn was the animal guy in the group so encountering an alien species was a great find and he got overconfident. Yes, the Hammerpede did give off a hostile stance but Milburn probably figured he could tame the creature ala Steve Irwin. A lot of stuff in Prometheus is very subtle, like in the original Alien. We don't know anything about Brett, Parker, and Lambert aside from their personalities and there was hardly any character development outside from when they first woke from hypersleep. They also made dumb decisions like Brett walking alone, Dallas going into the air duct to get the creature, Ripley wandering off to get Jonesy when they're suppose to be evacuating. I feel people are unusually hyper-critical of these films as of late.
Prometheus has a great, core story. It's landscape shots, high-tech visuals, color choices, and sets are what gives the movie such a great feel. Although some of the details should have been done differently either by explaining things better or in some cases, played out just slightly different. I LOVE the fact that there are little connections to the Alien franchise (until the end). I feel like Prometheus was a chance for Ridley Scott to take the perfection of Alien and do it with the different story of Prometheus. Prometheus is a PERFECT idea, but not a perfect movie. This is unlike the original Alien, which is a PERFECT idea and a PERFECT movie.
Maybe the reason why they didn't make the Prometheus novel was because of all of the visuals that are what makes the movie great. Without them, I don't think I wouldn't enjoy the movie near as much, but I guess I could be proved wrong with flawless writing. Of course, as I think most people can agree on, Prometheus does not have flawless writing. The core story is perfect though.
