VivisectedEngineer That is too easy! I will not show my face and have a few disguise ideas in mind heh heh! I suspect others will be more elaborate and distort their voices. There might be some totally fine with showing their real selves. It could be very entertaining to see what members do. BTW the above pic isn't me- it is my thrash hero Gary Holt of Exodus/Slayer.
These are incredible, great design and detail.
Does anyone disagree that a documentary about Forum Members by Facehuggers! would be a good way to start things off before going after more ambitious projects (not that Facehuggers! idea is not ambitious. It will be a lot of work but could be inclusive to anyone willing to participate)?
Guys...I was at the mall today, enjoying my summer break, when two of my students spotted me, started yelling my name from across the mall, then ran up to me, apparently to marvel at the fact that teachers continue to exist, even outside of school.
Now I am trying to picture how my students would react if they saw me in an Alien fan documentary. <_<
Some of them once very earnestly warned me that I definitely wouldn't like the rated PG-13 movie "Passengers" because it "has lots of very inappropriate stuff in it".
My students certainly wouldn't peg me for the Alien type.
(From my understanding, the inappropriate content they feared would disturb me in Passengers includes a character coughing up a small amount of blood and someone saying the word "shit")
Thank you!!!
"I hope you can follow up on what happened to Elizabeth Shaw"
Very interesting! You are the second person to say so. But, do you really think people would like to read more about that? I was thinking...maybe the rest was best left the the imagination?
I mean, we kind of know that David went sort of ...Dr. Mengele on her ass, for the remainder of her life... the duration of which was longer than she would have preferred, based on this David quote in the book:
"I kept her alive for quite a while. I like to think of that as another testament to my creativity, although she might have disagreed."
We also know, from the text of one of David's deciphered illustrations, that he fashioned restraints from "naturally occurring latex and silks" in local flora.
I suppose we may still have a few unanswered questions...as to what her day to day life was like... Like, where did Dr. Shaw sleep? In a cage or something?
What did Dr. Shaw eat? (probably those fruits that were growing in the drizzle room. I guess, also, that mysterious wheat.) And Why did she eat? I think she likely would have hunger-striked herself to death, unless David coerced her to eat through torture...or fed her through gavage... or maybe he fed her intravenously.
In any case, I'm not really sure how to make it into an engaging story. Disturbing...yes! But David already clearly has the upper-hand so there's little to no room for suspense as to how the conflict will be resolved.
A story about Dr. Shaw making either a suicide or escape attempt could be interesting (if she gets out of the cathedral she isn't going to survive for very long on that infected planet anyway...)
I will consider revisiting it if it seems like something people would be interested in :)
IRaptus Thank you so much. Your opinion means a lot to me. I will start working on a 3rd installment which I titled "Garden of evil", it will have to do with an hydroponic garden that is hidden inside the Covenant. It was Karin's personal project, which was at odds with the Company. But the garden is now part of one of those pathogen fueled "gas chambers" that David is using to get rid of the remaining members of the crew. I know Biology is your expertise, so I will love to have your input.
Facehuggers! I was ready to PM, but you answered my question. It might be good to have a set of questions for everyone to answer instead of random stuff like "Alien rules dude!!!"
It might be interesting to have something identifying each member as they talk- something like this maybe?

joylitt great stuff!!! Some interesting and thought-provoking angles!! Wow you have been busy :)
Upvoted.
Blackwinter-witch have these been added to the ever-growing fanfiction thread?? :)
Facehuggers! yes i think your idea is a perfect start to get the ball rolling. It will test how we all work together on here, get the creative idea's flowing, see who is interested in this sort of thing etc. Once we have an established platform we can look at doing a short film or animation next. This will be a lot of fun!!
@dk
Yay!
With a documentary, Scified could easily establish itself as a video creating platform; which would inevitably bring attention and support to the more ambitious projects.
Possible points of discussion in documentary:
-Fan theories
-For example: "What did you think the Space Jockey was
before the prequels?"
-Interpretations of the ALIEN franchise (philosophy)
-Movie theater experiences (relating to ALIEN)
-Dreams about the ALIEN universe
QueenElizabethShaw Thank you for your encouragement. I would love to hear about those things you thought were a bit out of place. Maybe we can discuss it :-)
VivisectedEngineer Thank you again. I have read two of your works and I think they are really good. I hope you can follow up on what happened to Elizabeth Shaw :-)
sherris, Tiwaz, Im Durp, Facehuggers!, and Batchpool have all brought up very valid hurdles/observations/suggestions and things to consider.
That said- after thinking of Facehugger!'s idea more, it is fun to imagine what we all look/sound like!
Should we maybe get ideas, list and vote on a separate thread? Maybe Admin could sticky it so it wouldn't get buried.
A $100K independent non-canon film would totally be doable. It isn't as difficult as it sounds.
BigDave Thank you very much. I want the characters to be inquisitive. And David in my version is not this almighty, larger than life robot: he is part of a team, the Weyland-Yutani team. I am not finished yet, I have several surprises in store :-)
BigDave The idea was to try to "fix" the third act to flesh out the characters some more and to add suspense while eliminating the shower scene and the final twist. I would say the crew could have still landed on the planet (even though your idea of the way robots switch is a good one) But I imagine the visit to the planet can be briefer, and then most of the action takes place on the Covenant.
Batchpool That is a great idea as well.
Seems there are a lot of moving parts to the ideas including mine. Perhaps starting out easier like Facehuggers! might be a good way to test the waters?
Here’s an avenue of thought. Come September there will be lots of media courses starting at various colleges. Many of these courses require short film projects for students. The thing to check here is who owns the project once it is finished. On the plus side this cuts down costs when needing to access equipment, plus it is easier to network info round the departments of a college campus to see where interest lies, like getting the Students Union bars to put on an Alien night. There are also lots of folks who dress up and are part of larger groups who do security for comic cons.
One question that is on my mind, is who would be the target audience, and on what form of media would they be viewing a short project film on, since this can dictate the cost of production and distribution ?
LOL Indy Rage Post deleted per request
Blackwinter-witch The animation short was an interesting look at the Deacon!
IRaptus P:DA was great- I liked better than Predators! Note that huge credits scroll at the end- lots of coordination!
Yeah! I think a documentary would be the least expensive, yet most effective, form of the movie project.
Even more interesting, maybe ask interviewees to record at the most futuristic location they live near.
I have not ever seen a spammer peddling actual Spam.
Tiwaz and Facehuggers! hose are good ideas- interesting how the idea evolves. It definitely is not something that could drop in say, a month.
Ooooh! Like the Trekkies documentary??? That sounds awesome!
What do you suspect we all look like? Do you think we're all a bunch of kooks? ...Or is that just me? Lol
Saw the film twice , after first viewing was disgusted with the lazy bladerunner like storyline coupled with how Shaw was erased . Bladerunner btw may be the single most overated movie in history .
On second viewing , Covenat was better but still less than Prometheus , I have no interest in the tired machine hates man storyline .
Will only pay to see David erased in a sequel .
I'd love to edit a documentary about the Alien community.
Scified members could send in clips of themselves expressing their fan theories on the Alien franchise, then I could splice in footage from the films and/or animated diagrams.
Thoughts?
Indeed i think this was the idea prior to changes, as the Novel seems to indicate David Re-creating or Evolving/Improving the Design.
Ridley Scott or Fassbender did mention something about how AI can no create, it can only follow already laid out instructions... So basically as far as Music Goes they was hinting at a AI can not create its own Musical Score... but it can follow and play a already created Symphony etc
I think this comment was in context to Walter though, where as David however clearly can Create and Think for himself. As opposed to the comment hinting David could have followed Engineer Designs and Re-create or experiment with Organisms but not be able to Create from Scratch.
But regardless the idea now is David has created the Xenomorph we will come to know and love from the Franchise... but indeed as we are Genetically related to the Engineers and the Xenomorph Experiments are related to the Black Goo... its still possible that through many experiments David has simply created something that had already existed in some familiar form a long time ago.
But i would think the route they are taking is the Origins of the Xenomorph as far as Black Goo are connected to a similar Organism, but that its Origin is not quite as close to the Xenomorph in ALIEN as Davids Xenomorphs in AC.
And so indeed the Xenomorph Bio-Mechanical Aesthetics is something that does not exist within the Time-line yet but something that will come from a Event between the year 2105-2122
I am really elated at having helped out your creative process and expedited your completion of "Resolution of Walter"! I cannot wait to read it! Can you send me a link when it's finished?
I am enjoying your Manticore story, even if it doesn't directly involve the Covenant characters :)
Also, as a young child, I went through a phase where I whole-heartedly believed myself to be an android (too much watching "Not Quite Human"! lol). So, if you ever need an "Android Technical Consultant" I'm your gal! Lol.
The Hammerpedes are a Good Point.
They clearly was not from Earth, and so had to be Native to LV-223
You would assume such a Place like LV-223 with the kinds of Experiments they was carrying out would have some kinds of Safety Protocols and Sterile Environments... as with the Black Goo you do not want Organisms coming and going around this place... it would have to be in a secure Complex behind multiple Doors.
A serve Storm that maybe compromised the Outposts Doors and allowed for those Worms to Enter is a Recipe for Disaster.
Hammerpedes come from Mutated Black Goo Worms... it appears those Worms are native and had been on LV-223 way prior to the Prometheus Mission, and so the potential in the past for Worms + Black Goo = Hammerpedes is likely.
I was always drawn to the Hammerpedes from a past event as linking to the Chest Busted Engineers and Space Jockey... WORM's for the most part are EGG Layers and i always wondered why did the Hammerpede go into Milburns Mouth.
My in-work Prometheus re-write did show the Hammerpedes indeed had small similar Eggs to in ALIEN and Milburn did have a Chest Buster which was killed right away.
Yeah we covered this before..
It is interesting as the Prometheus Crew Enter though a area that was Small, but its part of the Larger Iris Doors that we see inside the Temple... the Concept work gives more clues

They are not this large in Prometheus though.
And indeed the debris looks like it was broken in from the Outside.. and in the Topic a last year or so, people had speculated could it had been a attack from another Faction who broke in?
Maybe...
Its quite open to debate.. another thing to take notice off is the Door they entered through the cracked part/hole in these Larger on the other side Doors... means this whole Door is Larger than the Ground Level they enter from the Outside.
The Temples have a Protective Blast Wall around them.

And on the Topic a while back i concluded in part that after Thousands of years of the Engineers not Maintaining or clearing up any Sand/Dust/Debris from the Storms that the Blast Walls were intended to keep out.. That overtime this built up to the level that it had buried the Large Door Entrances.
Now if the Storms had been so serve to cause damage to those Doors is another Question or if something else caused the damage to those Doors is up for debate.
Theories could range from Seismic Activity, Serve Storms, or a attempt to breach the Complex from the Outside from other Factors... be that a Attack or what ever. Are all Valid Explanations.
I think having a clearly Larger Door, does show at least that the area under the Temple Mound just before the Entrance has been buried in Sand/Debris over time though.

So i would safely assume that Originally the Floor Space between the Ground and Temple Entrance as shown in the above image with the Arrow... could have been much Larger (Taller).
Evidence is shown of a lot of Erosion on the Temples Exterior over time, and so some pretty intense Storms would have caused this over a long period.... this explains why the Blast Wall is there.. to prevent a build up of Sand/Debris blocking the Entrances over time.
Yeah, I don't think David really "created" the Xenomorph in the way he likes to think he did...
Like, he did create some Xenomorphs, but he didn't invent them.
It's like...if my dad builds a boat... Then he's gonna be real proud of himself, saying "Right on! I've created the boat!"
But...I mean, it doesn't make him the inventor of boats.
Maybe David had a little more creativity involved...tweaking the Xenomorph to his specifications... But that's like...painting is a creative process, but just because you've created a new and original painting, it doesn't mean you've invented the concept of paintings.
Should be Caught and Locked up for Life ;)

Now i get where you are coming from ;)
With regards to the other Post you did, its a complete Retake on the events after they arrive back to the Covenant after fleeing Paradise.
I like a lot of your ideas ;)
I think the Hidden W-Y Security is a nice idea... certainly could see something like this coming to play in the next movie, where unknown to Daniels and the rest of the Crew there was indeed some Secret Security Force or even Synthetics On-board that was unknown to the rest of the Crew.
This follows pretty much the idea that was in the Prometheus drafts where Vickers had her own Secret Security Personnel that was awoken from Cryo-sleep after the S%£^ hit the Fan on LV-426
I love it! This is fun. Why do I get the feeling that we are sitting around a campfire?
I picture that you, and I and all the other folks on this forum have set up camp on some untamed planet in the Alien-'verse.
We're toasting our marshmallows and hot-dogs, and you've said "Did you guys ever hear the story of the ill-fated USCSS Covenant?"
Looking forward to more! :)
I'm sorry to rain on the parade, but I just don't see this working out, unless we have some secret financiers here on Scified that would be willing to foot the bill for what would just be a nonprofit fan film. Not trying to be mean or anything but expecting anything over $500 is really pushing it on a site as niche as this.
Gotta love your Enthusiasm DK ;)
Nice Idea though... i am sure we could all come up with some ideas... i think a alternative would be if anyone who has a lot of figures would be up for a Stop-Motion Version lol
Like the Robot-Chicken Movies.
I like it nice work... obviously does not fit with Canon for AC.
But i like it... this kind of seems like a alternative Story to a WHAT IF... the Crew Reject Oram's Objective to investigate the Signal picked up from Paradise and Decide instead to just send Walter.
Or they go into Cryo-sleep but then MUTHUR reroutes to Paradise and Requests Walter Checks out the Signal Alone.
Then Walter has his place Switched by David, and David arrives on the Covenant and then awakens the Crew and he has brought the Pathogen on board.
And your Story is the Aftermath of this... i am not sure if thats what your intention was, but its what i make from how this Story would have fitted.
OMG that sounds AWESOME! ...I think I'll have a hard time assuaging my husbands predictable fears that I'm giving money to a scam or something, though...
Sorry to be so shameless and self aggrandizing but... IS ANYBODY INTERESTED IN USING ON OF MY STORIES?? :D :D :D I have some ideas for how to adapt one of them for the screen...
As far as the Neomorph in the Banner, and last images i really LOVE this design and i cant help but wonder what a extra Budget to allow for better CGI and some Close-up Practical Effects could have done to allow the Neomorph in the movie to Live up to the Designs that these Concepts show.

I think a higher budget and we could have seen a Live Action more realistic version of the image above.... but what we ended up with was a less realistic and poorer Render compared to the above Concept...
SHAME REALLY.
