The Xenomorph in Alien: Romulus could have looked very different. Unused concept art for the Perfect Organism from Fede Alvarez's Alien sequel depicts a more Giger-esque aesthetic - one that actually emulates aspects of the unusedĀ Ultramorph concepts from Ridley Scott's Prometheus! The following concepts were created by Jared S. Marantz using ZBrush, check them out!
I had the honor of working on Alien Romulus with Michael Smale and his team over at Weta. It's always such a great experience working with Weta and Weta DEV. Like every creature designer, the Xenomorph and HR Giger's work was a huge inspiration growing up. Giger's design is so specific and so signature that this is pretty much the first time I've ever attempted anything in his world. I'm such a huge fan of Giger's work and the works of so many other influential artists, but it's only when I'm hired on these projects that are actually play with these iconic characters, so I was very excited to get this assignment. - Jared S. Marantz
While this design is quite different to the more iconic design we saw on film, this one certainly embodies the essence of H.R. Giger's early works. Although unused for Alien: Romulus, it would be great to see this design explored further in a future film, what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
Thanks to Dark Nebula for finding these!
