With all due respect here to "Biomechanic" an upstanding and rock solid member of this community who suggested this thread to begin with... THE FILMS THAT SHOOK YOUR VERY SOUL !!! I am going to start by saying this It would be cool if each one of us could simply name 1 film that "shook us to our very soul" and why it did this, among anything else anyone/we want{s} to add to this discussion. For me the first film that comes to my mind is "Deliverance" I don't know why really, maybe it was the Banjos and the Freaks that played 'em, maybe it was the idea of that all happening to me on my camping adventures with buddies, maybe it was the Bows and arrows, yea that's it, maybe it was just flat out that damn last scene with the hand and the water. But deep down I think it was that I Loved that Burt Reynolds loved football. He was "The Man" when I was a kid. He had at all... and seeing him in that shit scared the crap outta me !!! Down to my soul. Down to the point that I had dreams about it !!! It's Your Turn Now !!!

The movie that left a huge mark on my soul, (after Alien because thats number one) is Contact. I think because of how it takes place in the present (at that time but doesnt matter) and combines that with this ultimate discovery we've been waiting for, in a believable way that we directl relate to. I think the number of times I saw Contact equals with Alien.

2 films, both of which made 2 common place objects very scary. 1st was Prince of Darkness by John Carpenter, that thing freaked me out with mirrors for days the second was Ring, the original Film (there was a japanese tv series which predates that as well) which i fortunately saw before the remake was even conceived of. I was 21 and i thought i was past seeing something original or truly scary in horror films. I know it was a film, i get that it wasn't real, but i just felt better when i turned my computer monitor away from my bed before trying to sleep. If anything RIng was far more effective on dvd than it was in the cinema. Making you scared of the thing you're watching it on. Genius

Gotta add to this... Films that shook me to my very soul... Schindlers List - Anyone who at the very least doesn't have a lump in their throat at the end of this movie is just heartless. Carrie - I spent months looking under my bed expecting that hand to grab me lol. The Crow - RIP Brandon Lee, the scene in which he ad libs in Ernie Hudsons about how important the little things are gets me everytime. Inception - A recent addition granted, but we have all been there - realising we are dreaming, having a dream within a dream (I have at least). Matrix Trilogy - Droll is what you are all thinking but I challenge you to watch each back to back with your brain turned and you'll realise there is more there than you ever thought.

oh wait.. irreversible.. i thought i'd managed to wipe that one from my mind.. Saying don't watch this film will just make people go watch it, but seriously, do not watch this film. Some people say it was brave and pushed the limits, some people say it was experimental, some people say it was a poor excuse for a film. I just thought it was too much

"The Other" Thomas Tryon was a master of creepiness, and when I originally saw it as a tween, this movie definitely creeped me out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Other
