Just watched the Prometheus trailer for the millionth time and noticed a familiar shape in the background when the Prometheus' garage doors open... See for yourself, when the door lowers a familiar shape can be seen with two high walls on either side. After a tiny bit of searching I found the images of that familiar shape... That leads to the tunnels... The illustrations at the top I believe were Harkonnen temple designs for Jodorowski's aborted Dune project. either way it's good to see Giger's designs back on screen larger than life (so to speak)

Ah, Giger's version of the pyramid from the original concepts of Alien... I've always imagined that this is what a xeno hive would look like, in the wild (so to speak). And whether the artwork Giger came up with for Dune was unused as intended or used in a little known Japanese TV commercial, it doesn't detract from the point that it can clearly be seen when the Prometheus garage doors open. IMO, it looks as though Ridley has used a great body of Giger's work for the Space Jockey environment, structures and lore. Which makes sense when it was Giger who designed and sculpted the Space Jockey in the first place in Alien. Now that he is not as young as he once was it seems Ridley has brought in assistance to realise Gigers designs.

Think Prometheus definitely visits the Temple. To quote from Wikipedia/The Book of Alien: "The origin of the jockey creature was not explored in the film, but Scott later theorized that it might have been the ship's pilot, and that the ship might have been a weapons carrier capable of dropping Alien eggs onto a planet so that the Aliens could use the local lifeforms as hosts. In early versions of the script the eggs were to be located in a separate pyramid structure which would be found later by the Nostromo crew and would contain statues and hieroglyphs depicting the Alien reproductive cycle, offering a contrast of the human, Alien, and space jockey cultures. Cobb, Foss, and Giger each created concept artwork for these sequences, but they were eventually discarded due to budgetary concerns and the need to trim the length of the film." Think Prometheus will have many of these original ideas from RS. Can't wait.

I didn't read the second page to realize my first post was redudant. But in the comic book adaptation of Alien, you get to see the crew of the Nostromo find the derelict and the pyramid. It adds some depth, but it wasn't necessary to get the story told. In the context of Alien, hieroglyphs would have muddled things up a bit.

Safe? Of course he isn't safe, but he's good!

The last pyramid image from Giger was actually used as an Alien hive's pure form in one of the comics from Dark Horse... drawn by Kilian Plunkett.
