MemberOvomorph01/2/2012In one shot of the ship just as it reaches the ground, you can see Rapace running, and in the background, you can clearly see one horn in the distance, striking the ground just before the other one, much nearer Rapace does. Even though it's a very brief shot, if you pause the video at 1080p, it's possible to make out some of the details on the horn which strikes first. We don't see it in the trailer, but I'm guessing that the ship continues that rolling movement along the ground like a gigantic wheel, gradually slowing until its' horns are upright, at which point it stops...........in the shot of Rapace staring at it.

MemberTrilobite01/4/2012From your gif BM it looks like the Derelict gets on the hammerhead side, but your right it does look like there are some flames and smoke coming from near the three vaginal entrances. Only guess I can come up with is that the flames extinguish before it settles. Also, the lack of soot may be because the thing rolls like a wheel when it crashes.

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012I agree with you there Biomechanic. I think it is something hitting the Derelict that causes the explosion rather than the explosion coming from inside the derelict itself. Possibly the Magellan? The look on Janeks face in that brief shot in the trailer looks like he's about to poop his pants, maybe because he's about to crash into something?

MemberTrilobite01/4/2012A common assumption engineer, and one i had myself. But from the brief piece of footage we can't really tell. The only supporting evidence is the assorted wreckage from a human ship (Magellan/Prometheus) during the Derelicts crash and roll scene.

MemberOvomorph01/4/20125 months untill we find out. Thats to long for speculations if you ask me. I've been waiting for this film for years, the next 5 months are gonna be tough.

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012No glaringly obvious damage from an enormous explosion. The horns that struck the ground first, look like they're still completely intact. The incredible mass of the gigantic ship didn't cause it to crumple up like an aluminum can when it struck the ground, as we would expect. Conclusion: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012huh i dont think the horns strike the ground first ...i think we see the botton slowly taking ground ( so there is a sort of controlled landing crash )...will be pretty ridicuouls to see the ship landing on the horns imo .
i agree on the collision outside the alien ship ...

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/4/2012We can't really tell what hits the ground first, all we know is that it rolls like a wheel, at some point would create a "n" shape before settling into a U shape.

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012Watch the trailer in 1080p. In one of the shots with Rapace running from the crashing ship, you can plainly see exactly what hits first; that is, the horn with a rounded "fin." There's no doubt about it.

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/4/2012Just watched the trailer in 1080p - The Horn end is already in the ground as the Hammerhead comes down, we actually don't see what hits the ground first, I just checked.

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012I still think it's a second Derelict crashing next to another derelict. There are 3 objects on the final fall... a Derelict base and 2 horns.. The way the ship falls apart would be odd if there was just one ship.. so I'm assuming there are 2 Derelicts..
@BioMechanic,
What tools are you using to grab the trailer then convert some of the scenes into images or animated gifs? It would be fun to have an animated gif for every scene!

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012Snorkelbottom, if you look at an 'aerial' view of the derelict type ship, the only way what we see onscreen makes sense, is if that horn strikes first. If it landed squarely on one side, it wouldn't make sense for the ship to have been so unbalanced that it rotated all the way around to a horns-up position.

Gavin
MemberTrilobite01/4/2012Maybe, but not necessarily. The impact/explosion seems to send the derelict spinning downwards...

Then the footage of the crash in the trailer shows this spinning wheel-like motion continuing, until it settles in a U shape. We don't see the actual moment the Derelict collides with the ground, so it is anyones guess until we actual see the point of impact, which is why I'm not saying it does or doesn't, because we simple don't know yet. We don't even know how far it falls, and how many turns it makes before it impacts the ground.
IMO its pointless speculating, bottom line something causes it to crash, it rolls and settles, everything else in between is of no importance.

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012two images ..i hope they help

MemberOvomorph01/4/2012Frantz, in your top shot, the other horn is in the background, gouging out the ground, behind the one that's impacting near Rapace. If you look at the overhead shot of the upright derelict on the main page of this site, you can see a big gouge in the ground, to left of the ship.

Going back to the GIF, at first glance of course were thinking some kind of impact to the derelict or an explosion really close. I would like to propose an idea that i havent heard in this thread yet. Taking a different look at the GIF/scene of the trailer the derelict is plummeting towards the planet. As you can see its already in the atmosphere. Assuming the ship was orbiting in space/outside the atmosphere. Im thinking maybe it was hit in space/attacked and started falling before this little scene and we are seeing it after its already entered the atmosphere and possibly something inside explodes while its coming down. Maybe thats the reason why it is already spinning

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012Posting leaked stuff is so annoying. You never know if it's legit or if it's still in the movie or not. For all we know this was an earlier build that's been edited or that second pic could be from anything, who's to say its from this film. I prefer to stick to official stuff imo

Ta2punk
MemberOvomorph01/6/2012We need a speculation thread where people can just all the unofficially released pics/footage lol. I really want to believe the xenomorphs aren't going to play a big role in this film. That's why stuff like this just Erks me, but if it is in there I know Ridley won't disappoint.

Ta2punk
MemberOvomorph01/6/2012Well some kind of monster/mutation is showed in the trailer. Thats obviously the culprit. Not sure about this pregnancy stuff lol. We need to get ripley on these forums.

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012thats real prometheus ...otherwise the Fox CEO would have said that there were fake images in the leaked trailer ..
there are no reasons to doubt that is not an original trailer ( then discarded in favour of a more "quiet" one )
of course we cannot forget that its maybe a dream and so on ... she seems to be shaw btw .
I rest of my idea that she is "infected" by halloway ..thats explain the image of halloway feeling sick or strange after they have probably made sex .

MemberOvomorph01/6/2012An atmosphere processing unit would not work without the planet/moon having enough gravitational pull to hold the atmosphere there. Therefore, it's still reasonable to assume that LV-426 had an atmosphere, albet unbreathable, and therefore winds, gas, and weather.

Frantz
MemberOvomorph01/6/2012and that is said in Alien ...a very thick atmosphere ... and a good gravity of 0.86

That's right. Forgive me; haven't watched it recently, but as I read that, my brain automatically kicked in the scene where Ash is at the console, reading that off.
