I AGREE COMPLETELY WITH WHAT YOU WROTE RIGHT HERE... "Thus is it not plausible to accept that a Space Jockey about to meet his end flying a vessel filled with thousands of deadly creatures would issue [b]a warning[/b] in the hope that it would prevent anyone from meeting the same fate. IT IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID NOT A WARNING, CANNOT BE SOME RANDOM MESSAGE INTENDED FOR THE UNIVERSE.... IT IS EITHER AN S.O.S OR MORE THAN LIKELY A STRAIGHT OUT CRY FOR ASSISTANCE FROM HIS FELLOW ENGINEER'S!!! LASLTY, I POSTED ALL KINDS OF INFORMATION YESTERDAY IN FACT THAT CLEARLY SUGGESTS THIS FILM IS ABOUT A RACE OF ENGINEER'S WHO ARE TERRAFORMING PLANETS IN ORDER TO CREATE THE PERFECT BIO-MECHANICAL WEAPON AND AS SOON AS ANYONE AND I DO MEAN ANYONE POSTS ANYTHIG EVEN REMOTLEY CLOSE TO BEING AS COMPLETELY PLAUSIBEL AS THAT IS, I WILL JUMP ON BIARD WITH ALL OF MY HUMILITY!!! ALSO, WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO SEE TO CONVINCE YOU THE ENGINEERS ARE CREATING XENOMORPHS EXACTLY????????????????????? ALSO, THE XENOMORPHS CANNOT POSSIBLEY ESCAPE OR BE ALIVE ON THE DERLICT UNTIL THE DERELICT LANDS AND THE JOCKEY INITIATES THE SEQUENCES NEEDED TO OPEN AND CONVERT/UNLOCK THE CODE OF THEIR CONTENTS INTO LIVING XENOMORPHS...THERE IS AN EXTREMELY HIGH PROBABILITY THAT THE CARGO IS AMPULES AND AMPULES THAT ARE CAPABLE AFTERWARDS OF BEING CONVERTED INTO EGGS FOR FACEHUGGERS!!! Okay lets try out your theory on humility... Billions of years ago the Space Jockey’s ventured into deep space, optimistically expecting to witness a wealth of intelligent, civilised species amongst the stars. Instead, they discovered a universe almost void of intelligence, with only a few worlds ruled by natural conflict and incestuous propagation. Using their vast knowledge of genetics the Space Jockey’s created a means of seeding barren worlds with life, that would develop, flourish and evolve into complicated biological life forms, and through both design and evolution that life would develop into a predestined intelligent race. After millennia of observations, the Space Jockey’s learnt that the chances of a planet siring an intelligent race increased when the life on these worlds had to adapt and evolve to a radically altered environment, ecosystem and food chain caused by a near-extinction event. To trigger such circumstances artificially the Space Jockey’s once again utilised their extensive biological knowledge and manufactured a deadly biological life form, a race of genetically engineered weapons, and the perfect organism. Designed to propagate using suitable hosts from an alien world’s indigenous population, extrapolating DNA to adapt to environmental conditions during gestation, these deadly biomechanical weapons improved upon their own perfection, eradicating entire and ecosystems. Billions of years ago primordial Earth was visited by an ancient bio-mechanical race known as the Space Jockey’s, whom artificially seeded life upon the barren planet. The genetic structure of the life was encoded, through the process of selective evolution, to sire an intelligent mammalian, simian race – Humans. Before leaving the fledgling Earth the Space Jockey’s left behind an artefact intended for the Humans, to guide them to a distant world and the truth regards their origins. 65 million years ago, unhappy that the natural course of evolution on Earth had not sired the predestined intelligent species they had planned, the Space Jockey’s deployed Xenomorph eggs on Earth, subsequently eliminating over three quarters of the indigenous life on the planet. Once all suitable hosts had been exhausted and only the Xenomorph Eggs remained, the Space Jockey’s retrieved the eggs and destroyed all evidence of the Xenomorph infestation. Over the next 65 million years, the indigenous life on Earth adapted and recovered, eventually giving rise to Humans. 2085 - Humans find the hidden artefact and head to the destination shown. Upon arrival they find a vast temple filled with ampules and a large icon in the visage of a human head. They also find the remains of a dead Space Jockey and take its skull along with one of the ampules back to their ship for study. Studying the skull they find it to be very, very old (billions/millions of years) and studying the contents of the ampules they find it contains the genetic building blocks capable of creating life. Realising the potential of the contents within the urns the "suits" of the crew decide to keep it for their own gain, with predictably distastrous results. Meanwhile, alerted to the fact that the humans have stolen one of the ampules a Space Jockey pilot is awoken from a long sleep to stop the humans. Unaware of the effects of centuries/millenia of neglect to its ship and cargo of xenomorphs, the Space Jockey heads to LV-426 not aware of the fact that the measures put in place to protect it from its deadly cargo have failed/are failing. Entering the atmosphere of LV-426 the Derelict is attacked by the humans causing it to crash and unsettles the eggs, one of which in turn hatches. The hatched Facehugger heads towards the pilot, triggering an alarm and alerting the pilot to his negletive error. realising he has mere seconds left before the inevitable happens the pilot records a beacon message, warning any and all intelligent life away from the deadly cargo the ship carries. 12 seconds later the message is cut short as the facehugger attacks the pilot. The 12 second signal is then automatically repeated from that point on. Is this not another possibility, that is just as plausible as the one you defend an attest to. Doesn't mean mine is right and yours is wrong, or vice versa. Plausibility can go in many directions.

wow that's a brilliant theory, complicated but nothing less than Brilliant and there's one idea in there that I find so exciting I am shivering and I have to say Thank you for writing it if it really was you that came up with this idea because IMO of all 6-8 alien films total so far, whatever that number is, this idea.... Over the next 65 million years, the indigenous life on Earth adapted and recovered, eventually giving rise to Humans.[/b] is the best damn idea to NOT come out of all of them it is ten times better than any scenerio all of those movies even filmed and included it is shear and utter brilliance!!! I Love it !!! Highly complicated and you MOST SADLY are not writing for the film, and at the same time "prolly" very hard to film but well worth doing and I hope that's what we see in the film. I really really do... because once again I Love it!!! I also absolutely love that it tosses up a huge salad bowl full of righteous and perfect explanations for the extinction of the Dinosaurs! and also, who's to say what we suspect were T-Rex's or Raptors, we're not actually Xenomorphs ? Brilliant man, just absolutely brilliant !!!

I think that when they did Alien they had no need to find any kind of logical explaination ... the just did things that were useful for an interesting plot . So will be the Prometheus plot in charge of giving explainations regarding ALOT of Alien things ...IF they will want to give them . Everything ..from the eggs disposition ... the signal ..the space jockey death ...the kind of vessel and mission .... the derelict fate ...can produce 1 million theories ... and we can search answers only in prometheus.

Has anybody tried to record the original Alien beacon message and speed it up and see what it sounds like? I say speed it up since it sounds like it would be a slowed version of some message in our language...

It is also very likely a lot of these questions you raise franz will not be answered. One of the most amazing things about Alien, and there were a lot, is the amount of unanswered questions left at the end. If I were Scott I would keep the sequence going.

I just ran a quick and dirty recording but am limited on how fast I can play it. Anyway, running it as fast as possible (with my software), it still seems like just an eerie sound, maybe some sort of gunshot or fighting going on, but that is as much as I can tell. Maybe somebody with some good software can take a jab at this? Even possibly slow it down too? Just to see what it sounds like?

Hey guys time for me to chime in. The transmission sounds like a mouth full of something while talking underwater. Ok, now to think about what we are disscussing more strategically. We need to work with the assumptionss that Ash already knows what the transmission says(atleast the jist of it). This is due mostly from the company changing out Science Officers prior to launching the Nostromo. The company knows damn well what they are in for. Think about it, this is where Prometheus comes in. I think the signal is an automated acoustical distress beacon that any ship that is about to crash or has crashed would give off by the ships computer system. It could be a pre-recorded message from the "engineer" that gets trashed at the end from the wreck or it could be getting face hugged. We don't know, but I like the ideas being kicked around.

Actually you know what. I just watched the 4th kind the other night. If anyone has a copy of that play the part where the Aliens are talking Sumerian on the recordign and then compare what you hear to the 12 second recording

Rick, and everyone else, Here are the comparison Videos for you, I did not alter them in any way. They are quite different I think in Tone, But Not in articulation, in that, they are similar. In the end I guess it's all open to personal interpretation, but "Mostly", and as Newt would say, I realized in this that there really is not a good example depicted in any of the films of the audio portion of the derelict's transmission. In the theatrical and in the 2003 Special ed. release we see Ripley studying it, but we never actually hear it, or one full cycle of it anyways. Hey Sparky, Need to listen to the recording from the handheld. Its not in any of the youtube footage. If you want to go youtube route listen to the Scott Hypnosis recording. I believe the engineer leaving the message from the derelict is male and the tones are very similar. Regards, Rick
