Dear ALIENS and James Cameron fans, this is another smaller illustration I did…hot on the heels of the very successful film release in '86. I was goin’ ALIENS crazy at that point.
FYI, I signed it ‘James’…as that’s my actual name…still the same ol’ Neurion though. Hope you cats dig it. Whew…talk about memory lane…
Peace,
~N

MemberTrilobite01/7/2012Not bad, reminds me of the days when the front cover of every magazine was artwork, before the advent of digital dtp

MemberOvomorph01/7/2012I think is very good ...in 1986 i did start my institute of arts studies in italy but you were far ahead of me :)

Right…back then, this was a popular approach or style, used by the likes of Amsel and Drew Stuzan…though they were much better...and real pros. Every other movie poster, TV guide cover, and mag had a similar look. So, I kinda fell into that pop-art trap in my late teens…instead of developing a more unique and personalized style…back then anyway.
Still, I love a lot of the work from that era. Now everything is photos and photoshopped.
Thanks for the compliment.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph01/7/2012Thanks Frantz! Do you have any Alien art you could post...or just work you could post on the community boards? I'd like to see some from your Italian point of view.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph01/7/2012Here’s one from 1985, I call it:
Ripley: "A Perfect Organism…A Survivor"
OR...just "SURVIVOR"

MemberOvomorph01/7/2012i like alot this last one ... it have a 70's feel more than 80s
ehh after ive finished the studies and obtained the "master or arts" title ( worth very little ) in 1990 i did work for some time making stained glasses for cathedrals but after that i never did anything anymore being involved primarly in 3d programs for engineers and architects . So i think ive lost my hand :p ( but i can still use it to slap sparky )

Here's another one I did back in the early 80s. Of course, it's based on the original ALIEN film's imagery. I just always liked to imagine a "lonely" sort of Alien, just hangin' around the egg chamber...like an old spider...in an old web...patiently waiting...surviving.

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph01/9/2012You’ll probably noticed that I altered the Alien’s physique a bit…this is due to the fact that I never really cared for the protuberances on the Alien’s back…in the original Giger design. So I removed them. There was no real conceptual reason that I omitted them…it was totally for personal aesthetic reasons.
Although, I have always thought that they look anatomically awkward for a humanoid shaped physique…kinda hard to sit down or back up into something. Problem for me is…I also sort of like the way they look…it is a pickle…I’m split. Oh well, hope you like the image.

Alright...let's go with Vangelis! I too...am a fan of Blade Runner...from even before it was a cult classic...and "chic."

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012LOL,
That new pic...
Looks like a Xeno pretending he's "Liberace" while playing the piano!!!

Neurion
Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph01/9/2012Good call Spartacus! Since the words "queer" and "alien" are similar in meaning...makes perfect sense. A dandy Alien's got to do somethin' for entertainment on those cold, dark, planetoid nights.

Spartacus
MemberOvomorph01/9/2012Does he know any "Supertramp?", I am in the mood for a little "Fool's Overture" !!!
Just look at the picture and let's all sing along with The Xeno...
History recalls how great the fall can be
While everybody's sleeping, the boats put out to sea
Borne on the wings of time
It seemed the answers were so easy to find
"Too late," the prophets cry
The island's sinking, let's take to the sky
Called the man a fool, striped him of his pride
Everyone was laughing up until the day he died
And though the wound went deep
Still he's calling us out of our sleep
My friends, we're not alone
He waits in silence to lead us all home
So tell me that you find it hard to grow
Well I know, I know, I know
And you tell me that you've many seeds to sow
Well I know, I know, I know
Can you hear what I'm saying
Can you see the parts that I'm playing
"Holy Man, Rocker Man, Come on Queenie,
Joker Man, Spider Man, Blue Eyed Meanie"
So you found your solution
What will be your last contribution?
"Live it up, rip it up, why so lazy?
Give it out, dish it out, let's go crazy,
Yeah!"

MemberOvomorph01/9/2012Yea mun, and it really goes so well with that picture you posted Dr. Neurion Surgeon Sir.

Cool image! I like the progression of terror on Ripley’s face from left to right...on the
Alien 3 piece. The expression on Sigourney's face in the first "I" if the Roman numeral is one of my favorite images from the first movie...just staring at the thing in her midst. Excellent job!

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph01/18/2012Thanx Li, I love that moment in ALIEN as well. Such a badass moment, with Goldsmith's howling music...while the "Big Chap" shows off his big ten inch expandable mandibles. the epitome of Science Fiction-Horror...Right there!

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorph01/18/2012Good call Alteredstate…I did Photoshop the flare. Back in the 80s, I did everything “by hand”…and to apply a lens flare via airbrush was a very, very risky business. If it worked out…GREAT! If it didn’t…you were FRACKED! So, sometimes I’d chance it, others not. I didn’t on that particular ALIEN illustration.
A few months ago, I busted out that old piece, scanned it and thought it could use a little ZIP…to resurrect it, and bring it back to life. Well, that’s the “flare” story behind illustration “Survivor.” Like Sir Ridley, I too am a fan of lens flares in the appropriate place…to make things more realistic or liven things up. Before ALIEN, they were considered a “no no” by cinematographers.
Thanks for the interest Bro,
~N
P.S. Check out one of my Giger-esque compositions in progress on the PROMETHEUS forums, titled "Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers…Queen of Zeta Reticuli"
