I don't know if you have misspelled that or if you copied it from somewhere else, but I believe that the name 'Space Jockey' was a nickname given to the creature back when Alien was at the storyboard stage. It didn't have an official name at the time but the nickname stuck.

Hi all i have one of the images from Prometheus and so i changed the gamma in photoshop to make it brighter and it seems to show one of the space jockeys decapitated on the ground. Is there any way of uploading a Picture without a URL link?

@Tassader; it's already on here on a previous post. You can only upload from a URL link so if you are uploading you need to use a site like 'photobucket'.

AFAIK the production crew of "Alien" themselves are the guys that first coined the term "Space Jockey".

The set with the deceased alien creature, which the production team nicknamed the "space jockey", proved problematic as 20th Century Fox did not want to spend the money for such an expensive set that would only be used for one scene. Ridley Scott described the set as the cockpit or driving deck of the mysterious ship, and the production team was able to convince the studio that the scene was important to impress the audience and make them aware that this was not a B movie.[44][49] To save money only one wall of the set was created, and the "space jockey" sat atop a disc that could be rotated to facilitate shots from different angles in relation to the actors.[16][49] Giger airbrushed the entire set and the "space jockey" by hand.[44][49]

I think you'll find the term 'Space Jockey' originally appeared in a Robert Heinlein Sci Fi novel, 1960's..

When Ridley said that "The Space Jockey is a suit", maybe what he really meant that he is the outer-space equivalent of our modern day "suit", you know corporate yes man. So when the Gods instruct the SJ to drop viral eggs on Earth, the SJ just went: "Yes, Sir!" without question. He is a f-ig suit!

Dropyourlinen, it´s also likely that the term "space jockey" was already used in some horse race in the XX century as a nickname to some incredible fast jockey guy . :)
Of course I answered Bacon Boy question considering the context of the "Alien" franchise...
