Even down to the fissure (scar?) at one side of the forehead. All that's missing are the bolts on the neck, although it looks more like Dave Prowse' version rather than Boris Karloff's.

Ahh, yes... Shelly's The Modern Prometheus. While we're speculating - Ms Theron has quoted that Vickers starts as a "suit" but slowly sheds her skin - that could be taken two ways!

Dammit Kronik, excellent observation! A modern Prometheus indeed! Perhaps Peter Weyland is The Modern Prometheus? What, then, is his Monster?

We know the head must be important. Ridley choose the Egg for promotion for Alien. However, the egg was only in the film for 5 minutes. I expect the same for the Head. But what ever it is - it will be important just like the Egg was.

Hi.... First post on here, something that's really bothering Me about the image with the humanoid head, does anyone know whether this takes place in the derelict SJ ship or in some sort of subterranean temple.

I think the Big Head in the Ampule Room is in a subterranean temple. In fact, if you look at the official photos from the movie you can see that the space suits worn in the temple are different than those worn in the SJ's ship. Those suits have orange on them, the suits in the temple have no such color.

No one knows as yet @USCM 1664...we speculated the hell out of it, but we can't be certain quite yet.

Can't see any eyes - are they just hollow sockets or eyes without eyeballs? What do you all think? It's a beautiful piece of sculpture, btw.

Craigamore, There is a set of movie stills that demonstrates quite clearly that the ample room isn´t inside a ship but some kind of stone temple. I´ll show the stills here when I find them.

ive got a HR Giger art book which depicted some early work on possible SJ ships and buildings. some designs of a temple are shown and i think RS was offered the idea of a spaceship or a building for the SJ for ALIEN but settled for a spaceship.

I'd like to see the ampule room with the head as a collectible diorama with a couple of the crew with LED flashlights that work exploring it. That would be cool IMHO and I would gladly shell out a bit of cash for something like that :-D

Thank you for bringing up this topic ZetaReticuli. We've been talking so much about how Prometheus stole fire from the Gods and gave it to humans (the bio-weapons) , that we forgot Prometheus made humans from clay. So, this gives us a double-think on the title of the movie. In TED2023 Peter Weyland declares 'We are the Gods now'. Weyland Industries creates human-like androids, which he says will soon be indistinguishable from humans. That makes Peter Weyland the new Prometheus. There may be even more Frankenstein-themed similarities here. ... David goes rogue...? As someone who has studied sculpting. I would say that the giant head is not human. It is human like, but the forehead is wrong. The nose should not be coming straight off of the same plane as the eyebrow. The frankenstein photo helps to prove it. I also noticed this on the blue man in the SJ ship. Although he looks very human, the forehead relation to the nose is different than any real person I've seen. It may be difficult to notice but real people's noses don't start protruding near their eyebrow. Of course, the Mayan and Egyptian statues and sculptures weren't exactly human either. There is a certain artistic freedom to account for. But I am thinking this is what the jockey looks like.

As centrosphere has stated the Ampule room is quite seperate from the 'derelict' ship. If you look at all the media (official and unofficial) it is quite easy to work out what they built on the huge Pinewood sound stage; The entrance to the Ampule room (behind the head) is where the red laser balls are scanning (this is assumed as the door frame looks very similar to the one mentioned below). The Ampule room itself is in the shape of a large egg, the 'blunt' end is behind the head. At the sharp end of the 'egg' is another door which retracts into the top of the frame. This has a sharp edge, is closed when they enter the room. Just inside the door is the SJ head, when Shaw, Mudow and David investigate the door slides open and a burst of steam engulfs Shaw. Outside the sliding door is a short rock walled corridor, this is where the rest of the SJ's body lies (implying that the SJ was decapitated by the door) At the end of the corridor is the large circular stone door. Outside the circular door is the cavern with the hole in the ground. On the other side of the cavern is that entrance with the three concentric stone ovals. Note that the Ampule room has sealable doors and does not fit with the architecture of the outer stone wall and the other entrance across from the hole.

The SJ's look at themselves as gods. The face looks very similar to SJ we see in the trailer. Large nose and forehead are identical. The statue is likely a reminder to all that enter who their god/supreme being is. I would assume this is inside the entrance to temple and past this is the deralict space ship
