the walls are alive

At this point they are there and we are used to it, will they expand on their role in this story? I have hopes that maybe they could represent mankinds utter dependance on technology to the point where crewmembers depend on Synthetic people for even emotional/physical support and gratification?

There arent already men that depend on plastic dolls for physical gratification ?? Btw i think that this kind of things are more related to bladerunner and not to alien , otherwise the horror and the scare will be gone forever and we will have a soup made of everything with no taste .

Maybe I'd like to see androids with sexuality, but it doesn't mean that there has to be some cheesy love between a robot and human. It'd ruin the horror atmosphere, I think, in the movie, if there is some. But I'd like to see some more from androids than 'hello, miss' or 'goodbye' : D

"it doesn't mean that there has to be some cheesy love between a robot and human. I'm not saying it has a place here, but it's doable, IF DONE RIGHT.

Robots with sexuality ok....but leave it at that. As in they have those emotions. Otherwise, it'll end up being much too 'Cherry 2000' if any of you have seen that gem. Early 80's flick concerning these very themes.

A.I. did sexual robots pretty well. Everything else, not so much. Well not really, AI had some good ideas just poorly executed.

craigamore, I didn't say that love between androids and people is cheesy, I just wanted to say that it wouldn't look right to me if the relationship between a robot and human was very romantic like "Don't be afraid sweetie, everything will be okay". That definitely would be the worst scenario of android relationship. But I really really doubt it'll be this way. I was just thinking about it.
A.I. did sexual robots pretty well. Everything else, not so much. Well not really, AI had some good ideas just poorly executed.
WOW...sorry But I have a real problem with this...I think EVERYONE who did not like A.I. did not understand how AMAZING THAT FILM WAS FROM BEGINNING TO IT'S END. IN FACT THE VERY THING YOU SAID..'IT DID EVERYTHING ELSE NOT SO GOOD' IS WHAT I OBJECT TO THE MOST...I THINK EVERYTHING ELSE IN THAT FILM WENT OVER EVERYONES HEAD...LIKE DAVID DYING/KILLING HIMSELF BEING REPRESENTED AS A TEARDROP FALLING OUT OF THE STATUE OF THE LION. THAT FILM DID EVERYTHING SO WELL I WAS MOVED TO TEARS AT TIMES IN IT...I VEHEEMENTLY DISAGREE...like robin williams as dr. who....and on and on and on this likst goes of stfuff people just did not intellectually grasp in this film and just how special a film it was/is. IMO.

I agree with you! I really liked AI. I almost cried when I was watching it for the first time. Really sad.

You know, thinking about this has reminded me of the rumored "Pinnochio" story parallells - the aspect of android sexuality may in fact be at the very heart of the story - David could in love with Shaw but she may be replused by his feelings for her, which might drive him to the point of desperation "stealing fire from the gods" - or the technology that may turn him into a fkesh and blood human - but this has unforseen consequences. Just an idea. And regarding AI - please, I'm not bashing the movie in any way. I did like it, like I said it had some very POWERFUL ideas, I'd just rather have seen what it would have been like if Kubrik would have directed it & not Spielberg.

Rick...1st off, Parker breaks wind on the Nostromo, you need DTS or Surround Sound to hear it and it is a FACT. 2nd of all A.I. was one of the best Sci Fi Films I have ever seen, one of the best written, and one of the best acted as far as android behaviour goes. next...read and participate in my threads too, it hurts me when you don't...and lastly as usual, any and all theories you come up with regarding prometheus are AWESOME. Your Theory ion David here is wonderful...Personally I love you...and think they shoudl make a RICK android. LMFAO.

If not shown it may be expressed in a subtle way or.... if laid out as plain as day and his android mechanisms are like that of a child in love then he may indeed desire to be human more than anything for this reason to be able to feel that he would be acceptable to the one he loves and desires.... I can't think of a better reason actually for why an android would want to be human if indeed presuming that they could feel "Love" that is... This would actually lead me to believe that if he does transgress from android to human say shaw would find him even more repulsive due to the analysis a few days back about Niezche and the Ubermench character that David would become in perhaps this transgression as a total niahilist renouncing god and would have no consciouss for his actions as by being human he has become god himself atleast for his perspective.

Wow, so after all his efforts and possible tortures to become human she still rejects him and this causes his mutation to go totally the opposite way - he turns into a monster. Damn that's some good stuff, we are probably way off, maybe not - still good stuff.

yep probably way off but to further explain he would be a super being / monster infact better than human in many ways... Super strength and senses deadly killer with no conscious for his actions only to reach his objectives no matter what the cost

guys...lookit...I was thinking, odds are...what we are seeing is the beggining stages of the Xenomorph Developing for the first time with strands of Human DNA in it and that as the film progresses or rather by the end of it we will, in those last 8 seconds "prolly", be somehow reminded of the exact XENOMORH we are used to seeing from the past...it HAS to be this...in my mind there is NO OTHER possible explanation for what is going on there, ove time, in the film, this thing is gonna get closer and closer to looking like a Humanoid based Xeno.

the xeno is like the beast... It's an ultimate predator... But it does not appear to have any motives other than to steal another lifeforms dna and mix it with it's own.... Interesting that In a game of numbers everyone in a city say would become xenomorphs but when theres no dna left to steal they sit and wait it out for somthing else to come along to again steal some more

I would find any "robo-love" subplot to be absolutely ridiculous. From an engineering standpoint I cannot imagine a designer wasting time to program the exquisitely complex behaviors involved to simulate "falling in love" and "getting busy". In fact I have a little trouble believing that a company would devote the resources to implementing functioning sex organs on a robot designed for a scientific deep space research mission. Even if you suspend your disbelief and take it as given that the great scientific minds behind this mission plan opted to toss a fuck-bot into the mix, then considering the sex ratio of the crew wouldn't it make more sense to make the sexy robot female or hermaphroditic? Sorry, it just doesn't wash. When you go into space you are concerned with life support and mission critical equipment and having a "robot that loves" is not only frivolous but potentially damaging to the mission.
