Ripley Clone 8
MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 1:29 AMWhat did you find in the trailer that you didn't suspect before?
What are you expecting in the months to come of the release of the film on June 8th?
What do you think of the advertising for Prometheus?

hopefully many, many more TV adverts, they really need to expose the public,
to what appears to be a genuinely original hardcore sci-fi film. it's been a while
i think the viral marketing and ALL the concepts it conjures up is quite intelligent
the TED talk / the Weyland site / now the mysterious "Project Prometheus" site
i've never seen anything like this before,
it's unique, and so appears to be this film. when i first read that Ridley
described this new film as having a "profound new mythology" it didn't sink in
now...i get it - - or at least i think i do

AdminEngineerMar-20-2012 1:46 AM1. That white worm-like Alien.. didn;t think they'd show a glimpse of the actual thing in the previews. But I must say I'm pumped.
2. What am I expecting? Not so much new videos, but certainly some new production stills, but that's about it. Definitely expect that ProjectPrometheus.com site will soon be accessable.. can't wait to see what that gives us.
3. What do I think? Too much too soon. The IMAX trailer was awesome and could've kept us all speculating for weeks on the new footage in it alone. But for them to release 3 new trailers all at once, its crazy. So much and so many spoilers. (I still think there are MANY mysteries not even touched on in the trailers however)
All in all though, as an ALIEN fan, I'm stoked. Wanna know what part got me the most excited with the new trailers? The original ALIEN score and the original ALIEN title fade... Made it all seem so incredible. Just hearing that music sends chills up your spine.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 1:51 AMFunnily enough, everything I've seen so far I've expected. That's a good thing. Even down to the steamroller that is Peter Weyland. He cares not for what or who he destroys on his quest for success, power and money. I loved both versions of the trailer, but for me the "motivational speech" via the viral 'ted.com 2023' spot by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) is absolutely fantastic and gives you an insight into the machinations of 'The Company'.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 2:34 AMI was questioning the lip service to the scope of the film, and now I largely expect that it could be as big and profound as we imagine. Without a doubt, this film is beautiful to look at, like the potential of creativity was truly realized.
Very intrigued by the possibility of some slight misdirection in these trailers. There is still quite a bit to learn.
And this is why the huge flow of imagery is a great thing for the film. People are talking about it and they will continue to talk about it. Fox knew that these trailers were amazing, and it would be silly to keep them in the bag. They are turning a big film into an event film. Awareness marketing complete, and now they likely focus on capitalizing on this success.
As a fan focused on this film, there might have been more than enough revealed with the IMAX trailer, but I can see why they are going for the wide audience--they have the goods.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 4:22 AMgood things in the trailers:
1) the acting seems great. Wide range of emotions from Rapace (and definately very un-ripley like), Theron's character gives off some scary vibes, Elba will have a great presence and Fassbender seems very 'androidy' indeed.
2) gritty feeling in alot of scenes
3) Gigers labia-wrapped 'angelxenomorph' taps right into the subconscious sexual horror of the original Alien.
Things that make me skeptical:
1) I suspect they will pull their punches a bit. I think whatever comes out of Shaw will come out of her bellybutton. I base this on one of the last frames of the imax trailer + the fact that its the top of her panties that are soaked in blood. This is not very original and much tamer than the oral rape of Kane, the chestbursting and the implied (and heard) horror of Lamberts death.
2) It seems they give the whole story away in the trailers. Hopefully this means that they have something very different up their sleeve, but i worry this is in the spirit of movie-trailers these days.

MemberOvomorphMar-20-2012 4:49 AMI absolutely loved it... as I was expecting.
The tech looked astonishing, as the FX. Quite frankly, Weta Digital are now the masters of visual FX. Quite an acomplishment for a company based on the other side of the world!
Questions...
a) where are Shaw's father and herself as a young girl? Can we rely on Imdb?
b) Is there really a Magellan ship?
c) Who decided to ram the Prometheus into the Derelict? Janek (thus comitting suicide to save Earth)... or Vickers, overriding the ship's controls?
d) It seems that only Vickers and Shaw survive in the end. How will (IF they will) return?
And many more...
In the next 80 days, I'm sure we'll get more viral videos, tons of new photos and maybe a few TV ads
