It seems to me that the temple is shorter in distance from the drop ship here than in those shots in the trailers. Then again this may be a photoshopped image for marketing. But I love the tone of the shot. Two crews are seen with duffle bags so this probably takes place after they steal the "fire of Gods."

hmm nice little image there, quite avatar in a way, possibly from the beginning of the film

Can't be from Avatar, it all rocks, no jungle, Pandora is jungle planet, plains it has, but no desert.

EGR101March 22, 2012
I also appreciate the fact that the planet looks real, not a CGI fest like AVATAR

Is the planet LV-426? I know everyone assumes it is, but where are the bone-like rocks and steam vents? And how come the crew of the Prometheus can breathe in the temple?
wookie_falconMarch 22, 2012
I don't see how it could be LV-426 unless there is some catastrophic event that makes it even more uninhabitable? It looks far too different from the world portrayed in Alien and Aliens. Perhaps the Jockeys activate something that messes with the environment.

looking at the full size picture there even appears to be snow on the mountain behind the temple, very nice

No, the planet is not the same one as Alien. This has been done to death and settled by deductive reasoning as well as the write flat out telling us.

Vickers looks like she's waiting to check out what they found.
I may work for the company, but im really an OK guy.

genjitsu17March 22, 2012
Did they officially say the planet was different? Good, that makes me happy.

takka takka - it may well have been 'done to death', but I didn't know this, hence my question. The resigned tone of the post would suggest you think I'm stupid for asking!
DropyourlinenMarch 22, 2012
But if this isn't LV-426, does this mean two ships crash on different planets? Is the crashing ship in Prometheus not the same as the derelict in Alien?

DropyourlinenMarch 22, 2012
Also - in Alien - on LV42 when the sun came up, the sky was still black behind.. confused..
travesiusMarch 22, 2012
Let's not forget about that sandstorm in trailers. Maybe the planet just goes to hell and dies. Honestly the planet in the film looks like earth to me atmosphereically.

That is one gorgeously realistic and beautifully plausible landscape.
Thanks for that image, EGR101.

I don't think it could be LV-426 because if unless in the thirty or so years between prometheus and Alien the atmosphere is totally ripped out of it like a Supernova or super nuclear weapon etc. Then it is just not enough time to go from an Earth like planet to basically the moon.

ZetaReticuliMarch 22, 2012
And it simply looks TOO big, this planet. Wasn't LV426 a 'planetoid'?
Again, people are clinging too much to Alien.
