MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 4:26 PMAfter checking out all the great threads and ideas presented here i began to coalate had to sign up to join in. Considering the movies title and obvious story of Prometheus and Zeus, the fact that Lindelof is involved, i am beginning to visualize and hope that the movie is going to be about a horrifying time loop. Indulge me and tell me what you think....
Earthlings find star map on Earth, plan to go to "creators", Go there.
Realize a horrifying Truth, try to escape and subvert it, actually do escape... only to realize that by escaping, they have actually continued the chain of events they were trying to prevent
Then its revealed that Earth and Humanity are Stuck in this repeating and overlapping (FTL travel/time travel) loop, doomed to repeat it by the very actions they take to avoid it.
Humans are the "Prometheus" and the punishment is being stuck on Earth reaching a certain point and regressing again having its liver torn out each attempt.
This can easily be done by the Engineers who seem to able to manipulate matter and time.
There is alot that can though about.....is David our Hercules? or the humans' Promethean Fire? or Both?
Please add and dissect and critisize, i got all these ideas flowing and its getting rough:)

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 4:39 PMNow Hercules was a son of the God Zeus, and embodied brute strength over mind. I may bee al too literal but how is David a new Hercules?

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 4:47 PMHercules Freed Prometheus. In this case David being an android/demigod/Hercules
and humans being Prometheus (the product of using the fire of the Gods)
My view is that David could be the metaphorical Hercules and free humans from the "time loop".

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 4:51 PMNOOOOOOOOOO.......NO....no.....Nooooo...NO NO NO NO....NO time loops, no time travel, no stories wrapping in upon themselves like a chinese puzzle box/Russian nesting doll of an endless paradox nonsense....Please, no more time travel ideas related to this film.
Nothing personal Galzu, and welcome to the site, I'm glad you could join us in cavorting here, I just HATE the bare minimum of that concept even considered in relation to this film. Time travel has been done, redone and overdone. Ridley Scott using it here would be trite and it would come off as lazy; especially in a story with the epic potential of 'Prometheus'. Science Fiction hasn't had anything this potentially viable in decades and I cannot tolerate that potential being wasted in such a fashion.
Warmest regards new member.....I AM glad when anyone new arrives to revel in our fun.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 5:57 PMI agree that Time travel has been overused and/or used poorly. But the fact that the movie was a "prequel" until Lindelof submitted his version, that it "changed" and is no longer "a bookend" has me actually worried. I have complete faith in RS but none whatsover in Lindelof. I guess im just trying to prepare myself mentally for Lindelof's ability to ruin intrigue.

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 7:13 PMIt still is a prequel....Ridley said it himself....we have it in our news archive....Prometheus is a Prequel Says Ridley Scott. 'Prometheus' simply has the unique distinction of a prequel that stands, in and of itself, on its own two legs to tell a story that exists as much as 'Alien' in that universe, yet goes its own way....I find that fresh and fascinating...
As to your concerns about Lindelof, I'm neither agreeing or disagreeing, but I would say this......His so called "ability to ruin intrigue" is always atributed to the perceived decline of 'Lost'.....whatever you feel about the endof that series, there's no denying the quality of its beginning and 'Prometheus' is NOT a five year run of 'Lost'. It's 2 - 3 hours of one story by Spaiths, Lindelof and ...OH YEAH, Ridley Scott.........I think we can relax....

MemberOvomorphMar-25-2012 11:07 PMLike it or not, the story of the Prometheus in mythology is a recursive time loop. Not sure how you can argue with that direction of the film when this is a pretty blatant and obvious possibility.
Personally, I like Galzu's idea here. It's the only idea that I've seen that deals with that aspect of the Prometheus myth. And we aren't actually dealing with time travel within the film, just the suggestion of it--if I'm understanding this as I imagine.
