Giger's Alien Life Cycle
The question has always been where did the first egg come from that spawned the xenomorphic Alien in the '79 sci-fi horror of the same name. We've technically had out answer all along i believe with this piece by Giger. The figure on the outskirts of the portrait is humanoid looking while having the classic bio-mechanical feel that Giger is known best for. It is giving birth to an egg which is carrying the Facehugger, however, notcie that the egg seems to be coming from the mid section or stomache of the humanoid giving birth.
Shaw is seen in leaked video and stills to have been empregnated, She then enters the medical table. Its an automated surgical bed patented by Weyland, check Weyland Industries Website to see further info and other patents(many of which we will see in the film im sure).

This is the creature that Shaw gives birth to, it has its umbilical cord attaches and has been removed via cesarean section aka C-section. Although it isnt an egg per-say it couldve been a metaphor for what this squid like creature could eventually bring about i.e the facehugger and the xeno we already know.

Here is an image which i think follows the Birth as you can see Shaw stublling through the hallways obviously bleeding and a would can been seen on her mid-section. There is a thread with photos and stills showing what appear to be staples closing the wound and or it appears to have been cauterized.
According to the original design by Giger for the Aliens Life Cycle this would fall perfectly into place seeing as how both Shaw and the Humanoid depicted in the portrait are giving birth by what appears to be a form of C-section.
