Someone tell me if this is inappropriate to share here. http://www.firstshowing.net/2012/ridley-scott-talks-prometheus-rating-alien-universe-with-empire/ Ridley Scott Talks 'Prometheus' Rating & 'Alien' Universe with Empire by Alex Billington March 28, 2012 Source: Empire Now that we've seen numerous trailers and learned a lot about Ridley Scott's Prometheus, there are a few pressing questions on our mind. One of them is what will it be rated, considering the Alien series began with two R-rated movies, but has gone PG-13. So will it be the same? Ridley answers that, and much more, in a new feature in Empire magazine on Prometheus. The mag recently debuted their shiny cover, and with the issue hitting stands a few websites have posted scans (see here and here) of the full article, with photos. However, Empire online also posted a few pertinent quotes, like the one about the movie's rating. Read on! Ridley first addressed the idea of revisiting the Alien universe, touching on another question still on many fans' minds, about just how connected to Alien this is. "[I've wanted to revisit it for] years! Years, years, years," Ridley tells Empire. "I always wondered when they did [Aliens] 2, 3 and 4 why they hadn't touched upon that, instead of evolving into some other fantastic story. They missed the biggest question of them all: who's the big guy? And where were they going? And with what? Why that cargo? There's all kinds of questions." So it kind of is an Alien prequel, but still existing in its own story. "The idea of having lots of facehuggers and xenomorphs running around -- we've all seen that, it's all been done. It shouldn't just be a progression of the events you totally expect. There should be some surprises in there," Damon Lindelof says. He then addresses the question of the rating, skirting a direct answer (since they still haven't announced it / shown it to the MPAA just yet), but at least satiating us—I think—by hinting that it'll be a hard PG-13, but it could go either way. As far as I know, we're still waiting for them to get a rating, but his answer in full states: "Right now I don't know where we are. The question is, do you go for the PG-13, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Financially it makes quite a difference, or the risk makes quite a difference, and yet you also have to apply the question -- if you soften it, will you financially suffer? As opposed to just going for the throat and gambling. Essentially, it's kinda R. The little bastards will still get in anyway, so what's the difference? It's not just about blood, it's about ideas that are very stressful. I'm not an idiot, but I'll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can." At least we'll be getting an "aggressive film", but it sounds like it'll be PG-13. From what we've seen in the trailers, the footage, I don't think we have to worry. We know that Christopher Nolan can deliver amazing movies at PG-13, and it's likely even The Dark Knight Rises will be PG-13, so if Ridley can do the same with this I think we're fine. He's aware of at least "what it should be", which is R, so he'll try to get as close to that as possible. "With science fiction you have the opportunity of being able to do anything you want, with the digital assistance, and it's up to you to not do anything foolish or silly or daft, or non-credible. Within that universe, you have to stick to your own rulebook," Ridley says. There's a lot more in the full Empire article. If you can't tell, I'm incredibly excited for Prometheus, and I honestly don't think I mind what rating it is, especially considering all the footage looks amazing so far, and I trust Ridley is headed down the right path. Ridley also reveals a tease in the magazine article at what one of the future Weyland Corp viral videos will be, but don't ruin it if you don't want to, as I'm sure we'll get to see it soon and it sounds awesome. We'll be sure to keep you updated on Prometheus, in the meantime visit Empire to grab the full Prometheus issue. *edited courtesy of craigamore........nothing in the article, far as I could see, is offensive, vulgar or perverse...therefore, especially considering its relevance to 'Prometheus', is pertinent to the content of this site...also, the site of origin is listed at the top, so, proper credit is given..........It is appropriate Necrofan*
