Just read another thread about why put the big blue man approaching the chair thats raising out of the base with its telescope thingy into the trailer. We all wanted the Space Jockey to indeed be the creautre we saw in Alien. Why indeed has Ridley put this in the trailer.....something hes not telling us maybe. Plus....why would big blue man need a short trunk on a helmet? Whats its function? Giger gave the Alien a jawed tongue to give its long head a purpose. Whats the purpose of the helmets trunk? And why are the eye holes of the helmet not inline with blue mans eyes? If it IS a helmet at all?

Yes... I had mentioned that just from the ergonomic standpoint, that "helmet" would not jive with the not-quite right in height, "Blue Meanie". AND, I had always thought the the little Alien mouth was an extroplation of the SJ "trunk", but who knows.

I did go this route with the Alien being a parasite sort of thing a while back ... so why can't their be TWO species working together as ONE? ... The images below are mental and are FACT here on Earth ... When I first heard the rumblings of Ridley calling the SJ fossil a suit, it made me think of flight suits for fighter pilots and their breathing apparatus. It would make sense, especially if the SJ is meant to carry out terraforming on various worlds. The telescope is still what puzzles me though.

Yes, it's a bit disappointing - that it's going to be some giant Greek Man-God or something. I suppose the trunk could well be a breathing apparatus? Perhaps the problem all along was that Giger could paint a design like that, but in practice: the creature would appear to be fused with the chair. Unless he was part of some sedentary race that fused itself with it's occupational equipment and was happy to be totally imprisoned if you like - it just lacks believability. -------------------------------- alienage11.com Sight Unseen

@Time Well, believe it or not, in Gigers freaked out vision the "telescope" is in fact a giant you know what that literally inseminates life into other worlds!

Now that fish tongue thing IS very interesting isnt it? I still cant get away from the fact that the trunk is still too short in relation to the original. In Alien the trunk was part of the rib cage and quite long. Perhaps Ridley hoped we wouldnt notice lol........remember he hates it when we look too deep lol.

Yes, I thought that penis/telescope thing wasn't necessarily a telescope but acted in the same way a penis did, if you get my drift. But how and for what purpose, I can't be sure.

Ok ... add that to my list as a possible embarrasing/shock factor Ridley was on about lol ... Mind you we did discuss this a few threads back that it was some sort of inseminal hyperdermic device ... but not a giant c*ck :) ...

Also, in seeing how the SJ is totally locked in to the chair, obviously it is to keep the SJ from moving around, but either for the rough movement during space flight, or for when that thing bursts from its chest, I don't know. But if that's the case, the SJ knew it was "infected" and locked itself into the chair because of the inevitable. Then, that's when the giant penis comes into play....I don't know, I can't figure it out. Just thinking out loud, so to speak.

Man, I'd hate to be that fish. I always thought, well, always suspected, that the trunk coming from the jockey's helmet worked as a breathing mechanism. Just another part of his space suit.

Interesting, Gem, because I was curious to see what others said about the giant space-dick theory. What thread was that, if you know? I'll check it out.

hahaha GEM ... Yes, but weirdo Giger's visions are sort of really apparent. People have been discussing the phallic nature of everything depicted in the Alien films for years. And there really is no denying that if you look at the Xeno's head in profile... Its a big penis.. seriously. Another curious thing on this discussion line is that it never occured to me until recently, but the SJ control/chamber/chair is DIRECTLY behind the "giney" slits. Somehow, I had I been confused in that one of the "arm booms" has an obvious canopy structure, but I see now that the the control room and its canopy are directly at the center mass of the vessel, right behind the "giney" slits.

K... stick with me a sec here... So further to my topic on the DNA idea, what if the ENTIRE universe is like a GIANT LIVING THING, and the "tele-gun" firing through the you know what slits is akin to the the act of procreation. I think everyone was always taking the idea that the "slite" were entering into the vessel, but what if its really meant to be the OTHER way around... that the penis-gun is inseminating its by-design genetic material out INTO the universe which is in effect like a GIANT WOMB?? lolz.. I need a coffee... My mind is racing today.. Hahahaha.

Sounds legit @CanadaPhil, my belief-sticking to the whole bio-mechanical/living tissue idea, as we see in the trailer that the S/J suit kind of materializes around the pilot when he is in the penis chair (cockpit) and would become a fixture into the ship, organically. He would be able to fly the ship with his brainwaves and know if there was an issue with the ship somewhere because in theory, he would be part of the ship-(keeping with the original parasitic origins of alien) I posted in another thread about the S/J helmet being skull and organic flesh that encases the pilot like the aliens in ID4, therefore being a bio-organic spacesuit cable of protecting the pilot from all environments alien to his own. (ideas on my opinion)

@Gem, That alien prototype pic you posted really coincides with the mutation of the synthetic human David theory. And the transformation of David into part living/part android monster. Well done!

I have been thinking this sort of thing at the very back of my mind since the 'R' rating thing has beeen raging - it's not about blood and guts but very PROVOCATIVE symbolism suggestive of the very fundamentals of procreation as you say in all living things - a penis and a vagina and multiverses as wombs etc - VERY radical! Seriously, you could be onto something.

Thanks. I have to believe that there is way more than meets the eye to this. There is no way in hell that R.S would give away the entire premise of a blockbuster movie in a 2 minute trailer spot. I mean, if thats the case, and its as utterly simple as some people are describing with a big blue guy in suit... Oh, and the SAME ship from 1979, than that is just completely lame to be blunt. Any second rate director/screen writer could come up with lazy themes like that. I have to believe, like you said that is going to something very provocative... a completely mind bending experience.

I'm going to put a giant penis chair in the bed of my f250 and have my wife dress up like a robot and drive it while I inseminate the town I live in!! HAHA---(all jokes aside, I totally agree with the penis/vagina theory about the universe-they probably do that with the penis gun so they do not have to land on the Planets-sort of a drive-by -?)

See, that's why I'm not a good sci-fi person. I would not have thought about the SJ becoming part of the ship and driving it with his/her mind. That's why I rely on you folks to do my thinking ;) "Any second rate director/screen writer could come up with lazy themes like that." Any second rate director/screenwriter did: Aliens, Alien3, Alien4, AVP, etc.

Lolz TK... Your Ford must have a fold flat steel floor in the rear cab like my Ram Quad cab does! hahaha But yeah... These "whatever" are thousands of milenia beyond us.. maybe millions??? I think they have advance to the point that they dont have to literally stop, park and get out with a suitcase full of samples. If anyone takes a look at the Holo-Map pic, the suggestion is that that Engineers have mapped and done who knows what with 1,000's of worlds. There are literally billions of stars in the Universe.

I'm amazed at just how easily we can all say what will or will not be from a handful trialers adding up to no more than 7 minutes or so and then determine its probable value as quality storytelling or not, qaulity 1st rate directing or not, unique or not, original or not..........I'm read to say that none of us knows didley Jack spit and it's time we accepted, in spite of the fun of speculation, that even if this film is some of the things we fear it will be, we know NOTHING about what the final product will be and it;s time to swallow our keyboard infused pride and give 'Prometheus' the chance be whatever it is... I;m as guilty as the next fan, but let's just agree to give a rest already.......and I'm not saying stop speculating, just this idea that we know what we're talking about with a movie we've 7 disparate, re-edited, vague minutes of.... There, there's my rant...I hope I wasn't too harsh on us.......but it had to be said.

The series grow so much into kiddie-marine-fanboy territory that Giger's original phallic adult art was completely buried for 33 years. No-one saw beyond the attack-with-pulse rifle and decimate plots which smothered everything. Now if Aliens had a bit of the 'Heavy Metal' mags content and Cameron had kept the erotic and symbolic themes, it would've been a FANTASTIC sequel and not just a good sequel.

Calling Giger a weirdo is a bit of a stretch, seeing as how without his original art as inspiration, there would be no Xenomorph influence at all in the Alien films.

@craigamore Agreed. But for me, the "fear of" and the "what if's" are what make this site so fun. I love reading about everybody's ideas and theories to see what conclusions so many different minds come to. And the simplicity of the xeno coming about from a mutated human, is down right creepy. To look back on the other films and think- "we did this to ourselves!" Is scary man. But part of me agrees---shut up and wait for the movie!! Lol

@Craigamore... Granted, but the simple fact is, this franchise is completely full of overt sexuality. That is what is Giger's "art" is based on. He doen't DENY that. So this is either going to be a scenario where R.S finally says, "you know what, lets go with this now" or lets just keep this is simple as frightened people battling the retro '50s blue or green skinned tall fella in a glorified smash and bang fight. Everything in organic reality has a purpose. So its either going to have to come do them simply saying, you know what, it doesn't mean anything.... its all just a weird look that our art department prefers, or they are finally going to have try to explain, the phallic this and the opening that. Oh and @Necro... Giger is a "weirdo". Probably even very emotionally disturbed as many "genius artists" are. I think his only wife in the 70's killed herself not even 1 year into their marriage. I dont think I have ever seen a pic of him where he doesn't seem to have dark, crazed eyes. He was probably refered to the "loney weird one" by kids in his school growing up as a child.

There's nothing wrong with speculating, I just want want us to pull back on the reigns of saying we KNOW what this is, how good it is, that Ridley's a genius or not becuase of what we haven't even seen yet and start acting like mature adults who can argue and specualte without that smarmy, 'well, I know it's this, just because' attitude or 'it won't and can't possibly be good, just because it won't be what I want it to be.' We sound like spoiled, insolant brats at that point....

I have to admit it's sometimes difficult to curb my tongue but only in expressing or relating something not clanking on somebody or their views. I wouldn't be here if it was all about flaming people or trying to top someones clearly perverted ideas (plenty of sites for that elsewhere). The operative word in all of this is taste, or tact, if you will

ZetaReticuli You have to admit Alien 3 tried to take us out of video game marines, even if it failed. But I am with you on Aliens -- going even further into obscene Giger, sexual depravity, implied and explicit, would have made Aliens truly superior to the original. I mean, imagine the marines finding many colonist still alive with the most gruesome experiments/mutations being conducted on them instead of just one big Queen. Imagine Newt seeing her father, mother or brother with some . . . oh, I'll let it rest there, don't want to get anyone turned on or off.

Interesting with that fish it looks a bit Alien in 2nd photo. I know they found that Moray Eel have a 2nd pair of jaws to pull prey in, like the Aliens have. And scientist only discovered that a fair few years after the Alien/Aliens movies.

@craigamore If Ridley has a lot of say on what the Trailers contain i dont think he would to give nothing away, he comes across to me as a guy who gets very defencive and proud of his work and would want to keep a lid on any spoilers. So if he had a influence on what we see, well he has shown a fair amount. A fair amount that leads to a potential Story with many explanations and Speculations. I think he has done this to throw us off and i think compared to what we may be thinking or expecting, i think he will give us something thats a little out side the box. Thats a big risk and one that could be great or back fire... so who knows Slime that changes into Space Jockeys and Changes Humans into Space Jockeys and Shaws Baby Squid becoming the Mother to all Alien Xenos are a bit way out ideas. Maybe those strange ideas could be close, or who knows Ridley could have a even more bizare Story for us. I expect us to be suprised and him to be giving us a thinking outisde the box Story.
