Shape and function of Alien head

Thinking about the xeno's head. How does the Xeno see and hear? what instinctive/intelligent functions arise from/in that head? what sort of brain would a cranium like that carry? why does it have that double mouth? why is it so smooth compared to the rest of its body? what does it eat and how does it withstand/handle its own acid? just curious

How the creatures see is uncertain. In Alien 3, a fisheye lens was used to illustrate the Alien's point of view. In the novelization of the movie Alien, the creature is held mesmerized by a spinning green light for several minutes. In Aliens, the adult creatures have a more textured head rather than a smooth carapace. In the commentary for Aliens, it was speculated that this was part of the maturation of the creatures, as they had been alive far longer than the original Alien. The smooth design of the carapace would be used again in Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, although made narrower with a longer muzzle and more prominent chin. This design would be kept in Alien versus Predator,[17] and abandoned in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in favor of the ribbed design. The Aliens' inner jaws are powerful enough to smash through bone and metal. Referenced : http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Xenomorph_%28Alien%29

its a big dick directly evolved from Hans-Rüdi Gigers dark, sexual and occult fantasies..;) He added an inner set of Pharyngeal jaws because he found it more horrifying.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_%28creature_in_Alien_franchise%29

in the xenopedia it states some fans believe the eyes are in the mouth, which I find stupid. I think it doesn't need eyes and uses a form of sonar like bats, and the smooth head is an antenna/receiver...makes more sense what I don't get is, if the creature is so 'perfect' then why does its mouth look like mangled string balls at the sides as for acid for blood, it must be exoskeleton throughout, with no soft tissue or muscle...remember this creature is biomech, not organic

i watched a bunch of behind the scenes stuff from ALIEN and the zeno has eye sockets wit ha large jelly like "sensory organ" thats what the round head thing is in the front. it covered the eye sockets and the nostrils. i assume this big organ sees and smells, it might even hear. so i guess its head on the top isnt hard how it looks, its squishy like a big eyeball. at least in alien, the head changes a lot in other movies n isnt see through anymore n looks hard. http://deathtocgi.blogspot.com/2011/08/what-if-was-cgi-instead.html you can see the eye sockets. im looking for the video i saw of them saying its one big sensory organ over the skull. ill post it if i find it.

I remember Ridley Scott on the Alien commentary felt the creature not having eyes was more terrifying, hence the final look in the film.

In Alien they used condoms for the jaw tendons, you'll never look at them the same!

It would be obvious that you've thought about it even if you hadn't said as much - so why you don't you actually say what you think? For myself, those are questions I do not ask - nor do I ever want to see them definitively addressed inside the story, under any circumstances. The specifics of it's anatomy should remain a complete mystery or you start to undermine its value. I would just take it as a whole. I'm pretty sure you'll discover soon, anyway, that not one answer you are given on the road you've set out on, will really seem to add up properly, or will really leave you feeling completely satisfied. That is because the real answer is very simple: "It is nothing, at all, like what we know". I wish you luck. [Only your very last question doesn't seem to fit in the general theme and seems strangely redundant. Whatever evolutionary direction it has taken and however strange the eventual creature is, from our perspective, how and why, would or could, anything at all evolve, or exist and survive, in the first place: that could not tolerate it's own blood? That seems senseless - it couldn't survive. Blood is a fundamental component in an organism that uses it at all, and that organism could not exist at all if it's own blood was harmful to itself: the organism is its blood and its blood is of the organism. They are one. Under normal circumstances, I do not find my own blood toxic, anymore than my own arm poisons me. Nature and evolution could not allow that to be the case because I could not have existed in the first place].

Don't feed the troll. @ allinamberclad - Posting a well written post may make you feel intelligent, but putting someone down with a personal attack on their own intelligence shows truly how much class you really have and what level your on. There's no need for any of that here.

the fact that the alien has eye sockets means nothing..there are certainly no eyeballs there...it's probably just an aesthetic feature as a result of genetic host 'mimicry' The long head definitely has telepathic abilities to further strengthen the advanced sonar theory, as demonstrated in Aliens. The reason for it's length has also to do with the fact that the retractable tongue/mouth requires space to coil into, sort of like the barrel of a gun

Point was he was trying to sound smart and then quickly lowered himself afterward by trying to insult you. Well, it was more intelligible than the Aliens head is a giant dick. LOL. Amberclad- I'm just trying to say there was no need for the personal attack on Bella and its against forum rules.

@ Alien DNA I wasn't "trying to sound smart". I'm not even sure how that is achieved, if it is actually possible - nor even what it actually means: I'd be interested to know where I and how I am supposed to have done that. Neither have I "put anyone down on their own intelligence". These are both fallacies. Furthermore, it does seem at odds, to adopt a posture of moral superiority and make somewhat arch references to "Forum rules" and "personal attacks" while, in practically the same breath, you publicly defame my "absence of class"? Would you not agree? That aside, and for the sake of clarity: I replied to a reasonable question, in a reasonable manner. I received some kind of reply to that answer, from a third party. To which reply, I replied, in kind. I hope that does, clarify.

The Alien is a completely artistic creation. What it does or can do is whatever they wanted it to do. It functions according to Giger logic. Why does it have a long head? Because Giger likes penises. Why does it have a double mouth? Because Giger likes penises inside of penises. Why does it have two arms and two legs? Because they couldn't get the horse to wear the suit.
