MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 8:05 AMI don't think the "Engineers" exist any longer, other than perhaps in genetic goo.
It seems, if the scene, in the trailers, with the "saucer" shaped ship can be taken as a literal opening shot, the engineers had a much more symetrical, familer idea in the design of their vessels. I beleave these where higher beings that maybe had benevolent intentions but finally becoame victims of their hubris.
The shots we have been offered in the trailers can give the impression of a higher cast of creature being overthrown. For example the SJ suit laying on the floor and being examined by shaw, also what appears to be a debris-dump of techno-organic remains in 2:31 of the trailer.
Perhaps the whole messages trail on earth was always intended to invite the human-race to move the "Engineers" plan foward with our DNA but not counting on the "synthetics" intervention along the way.
I also suggest the blue aliens are simply maintenance -drones, designe to protect the "Engineers" legacy. The face in the "Ampule Chamber" would seem an ideal temple for these minions to be reminded of "The Gods" and there is an uncanny resemblance to the style of heads on Easter Island, a location still waiting to be repopulated?

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 9:59 AMThat's an interesting idea that the blue guys were just drones. I'm definitely thinking along the same lines about the overthrowing. What if the other class was benevolent at one time and the ship was sort of like an ark containing the genetics of every species the true gods created? The ampule room could be all the species/monsters the blue guys produced after they stole their tech and weaponized the Promethean fire.

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 10:40 AMI think thats right, the "Engineers" where more than likely benevolent, there would be not much sense in creating somthing just to be a complete git later. I reckon the blue aliens are, as you suggest, some sort of drone cast, although I would think they would not be mindless as bees and be intent on protecting the DNA treasure of the original "Engineers".

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 11:19 AMInteresting ideas. Thanks for posting. Why would machines need to be reminded of who they serve though? That's what their programming is for. I take Ridley to be a more realistic (in the fantastic/realistic sense, not in the 'insulting your theory' sense) director/writer when it comes to elements like this.
What do you think?

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 12:09 PMWho said they were machines?
There's plenty of ancient records, modern too, that relate how cults spend their time waiting for "the gods to return".
Christians are waiting around for Jesus to put in another appearance and "Islamists" defend their faith at the cost of life itself. So whats alien?

MemberOvomorphApr-09-2012 1:12 PMYou are missing the hints Ridley Scott has given since the Prometheus project began. He always thought that the alien ship (the "derelct") was a bomber full of weapons. According to Scott, The civilization discovered by the Prometheus crew will show some very uncivilized behavior. These are the ideas of the director, given during the making of the film and I doubt he will have changed his thoughts on these points. The engineers are very much alive and well when the Prometheus crew arrive on the alien planet. They are godlike, but nothing like the benevolent gods of human religions.

MemberDeaconApr-09-2012 3:33 PMWe dont know for sure, but i would and have though before that indeed the SJ need us for some reason.
Maybe there is just one left and he is in hybernation?
Whats interesting is if you read the plans Giger had for the Dune Temple and Castle, that never got used in the movie.
The Dune Temple looked like the ones in Prometheus only they had a head ontop and not inside.
Their purpose was to turn Matter into Energy and so thus maybe indeed the Space Jockeys need Mankind for some purpose, be that our DNA or Spirit/Soul

MemberDeaconApr-09-2012 3:40 PMSorry wrong thread...
It could be interesting that maybe the Blueguys are indeed not the actual Engineers so to speak?
Some could say that those dead boddies are the real SJ and the Blueguys have overthrown their creators...
Interesting idea, but then to me why would the Pilot Chair seem to have a helmet on in that the Blueguy heads over to and then another scene we see what looks like the SJ in the seat. Which i think is the Blue Guy who puts on the Helmet and then also gets strapped into the Organic Chair.
