You have my sympathy
MemberOvomorphOct-12-2012 11:59 AMTHE "KIDS" FOUND ALL THESE PICTURES WITH THIS GUY POINTING AT A PLANETARY SYSTEM, COOL.
MS. SHAW TELLS US IT'S AN INVITATION, EVEN COOLER.
IT TURNS OUT TO BE A WEAPONS FACTORY LOCATION. DOH!
SCRIPT COCK-UP? WHY INVITE SOMEONE, AFTER THOUSANDS OF YEARS OF EVOLUTION, TO HAVE A LOOK AROUND YOUR WEAPONS FACTORY THATS NOT EVEN NEAR YOUR HOME WORLD?
DON'T EXCUSE THIS CRAP SCRIPT COCK-UP EITHER BY SUGGESTING THEY LURED US THERE TO KILL US, THE ENGINEERS WERE LEAVING TO COME TO EARTH 2000 YEARS EARLIER, BEFORE THEY GOT STUFFED THEMSELVES.

MemberFacehuggerOct-12-2012 12:06 PMI guess they could have decided not to create us?
Then, there would never be a Prometheus movie, or fan website, so I do not want to ever imagine a world like that!

MemberOvomorphOct-12-2012 4:27 PMCerulean, don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
There would still have been a Prometheus movie, but You Have My Sympathy is right: the Engineers leaving a map (or give information to humans to make a map) about their weapons facilities makes about as much sense as the U.S. government contacting a primitive tribal culture and leaving them a map of Area 51. You'd just have to change the story enough for it to make sense; say they went off course, or misinterpreted the map, or something.
That just gave me an idea for a funny story! Imagine a bunch of bushmen showing up to the outer gates at Area 51 and they're met with heavily-armed guards. When asked what the bushmen are doing there, they reply "we have an invitation" and hold out the map.

MemberOvomorphOct-12-2012 5:32 PMI agree with you Sympathy! It's hodge-podge science fiction. The visuals are nice, but the story sucks the more and more I delve into it. If the Engineers only had eyes to harvest our DNA and used humans as nothing but fodder in their schemes as one person posted, then why leave a map at all! The heroine, who btw must always be right with few exceptions, says the pictograms were an invitation. If so why to their wepons depot. If the map was to some other place, then why do the Engineers now want to kill earth's inhabitants? We're just minding our own business. I think that Ridley Scott stepped in some black goo, and can't seem to scrape it off his shoe.

MemberFacehuggerOct-13-2012 9:23 AMI did see the maps as an invitation, because I am human & want to believe the Engineers are our friends, but does it not make it totally sinister when we find out 'We were so wrong'?
Maybe the Engineers did not create us at all?
We never see what comes from the sacrifical ritual, in the opening scene, other than cellular division?
Did they invite us to LV-223 to kill their younger siblings (us)?

MemberOvomorphOct-14-2012 4:36 AMIt was a warning, not an invitation. Shaw admits her mistake. Which part of that don't you understand, CAPS-LOCK BOY?
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent
