MemberOvomorphMay 18, 2012One of the things I hope we get in Prometheus is death scenes that are very realistic with respect to the reactions of the dying character and the witnesses. It's not that I enjoy watching people die, but what's a roller coaster if it doesn't really dangle you over a precipice? Anyway, the point is the more real it feels, the more of a thrill it will be and I rarely see a movie with death scenes that freak me out.
How do you guys feel about this subject and which scenes in which movies are your favorites?

There are plenty of more obvious answers but here's one lesser known one that kind of freaked me out.
Sphere when one of the divers is attacked by a school of jellyfish, or crushed by the giant squid
Pretty cool creepy deaths IMO. Leaving quite nasty cadavers

Not the most disturbing, but certainly my favorite of all time...

Chrissie Watkins in Jaws...the fact you dont see whats happening and you're forced to use you're imagination is terrifying, I still have a phobia of swimming
Frank Cotton in Hellraiser (2nd death) is very graphic
Even Lambert in Alien, its the imagination thing again

O.k. Lets get Busy !
IMO
This...Is the single most disturbing scene in any sci fi horror film i have seen in the last 49 years and approximately 328 days. {I will be 50 June 15th} This is the only clip I could find of it, but I think all it is missing is right before what you see, a troubled man finds the place where his wife is being quarantined after being discovered hiding in her own home in London. She is an infected Carrier of a Zombie Like Virus but unable to get infected by it herself just carry it...and He sees her bends over and kisses her on her hospital gurney, and then this happens... I will never ever be able to shake these images from my mind., it is beyond any doubt, was, the single most enduringly disturbing scene I have ever seen filmed.

Only watched this once before. Knew there was a reason why. Not Sci Fi but definitely horrific, Fire extinguiser scene from Irreversible.

I'm a Flight Paramedic by trade, so I've seen a lot that I'd like to forget! I can tell you that reality is a lot worse than fiction (as usual), so it takes a lot to impress me. Sorry Spartacus, didn't even phase me. A shotgun blast to the face in which a patient survives is about as bad as it gets.
That being said (and don't flame me), I'll never forget Dallas' plight in the vents. I saw it in the theater, I was young and impressionable and I was scared $h@!less for years. I just saw a glimpse of something nasty grab him from the dark so quickly that he couldn't scream! Instant death! He was the Captain, the cool guy, the one who could kill it! I was left to use my imagination and endlessly went over horrible scenerios. The death left to you is arguably the worst! Of course it was resolved (spoiled?) later by the director's cut.
Just IMHO!

Oh yeah, on that note (my post above). How much would it suck to be snatched, manipulated, likely injured by that nasty creature, then totally immobilized in it's nest, injected with ??? (or doused) and then left to disintegrate/transform over a day or to into an egg? THAT is pretty gruesome. Not quick, nice and slow and painful. You're concious AND you can't even comprehend what is happening to you. If a team flew in and zipped you away to hospital (impossible in the movie), Staff would just stand around in disbelief and likely not want to touch you. That's a pretty horrible way to go!

you rock man, this world needs more people like YOU and I guess in the end sadly for us, lol, Nicolas Cage !
Spartacus! oh man, thanks for the fury, when the guy explodes you see a flame come out of his rear like a fart igniting! I think it might have been a real snuff video! That was one real dumb
So incredibly pleased that you saw that my dear trusted friend !

The scene in the original "The Fly" where the guy is trapped in the web about to be eaten by the spider scared the crap out of me as a kid.
I know by today's standards the effects are poor but the sheer look of horror on the guys face still sends chills up my spine.

In 1958 that probably had people running out of the theaters.
Remember, in 1979 the chest burster scene in Alien had people throwing up in the aisle heading for the exit.
To me a most memorable death scene in a movie is one that forces you to leave the theater.
