The function of the TURNTABLE Mechanism

OK, I had first posted a rough starting point on this thought in someone elses topic, but since I will probably lose track of that thread at some point, I am starting this new one here so that I can develop this theory more over time as we get closer to the movie release date. I dont think that I have ever seen anyone, anywhere, mention this observation yet. The first post of this OT will be me just cutting and pasting my thought from the other thread. Here goes.... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ OK, Im still not going to give you my whole take on this, but I will try to give you a couple hints as to what I am thinking. Food for thought... The "Jockey" is the literal "Prometheus" of our story. He is a Titan, but not quite a God. He is subservant to the God's (and there may be several different ones!) Now, Im going to skip over a lot of the in between for now, but think on this..... The turntable/gun mechanism of the alien vessel has been designed as BOTH a means of life creation/birth while at the same time being a method of CRUEL PUNISHMENT for the poor "Jockey" who has done wrong! And he and his fellow kinsmen are going to have to endure this punishment over and over again until the end of time! Now my first clues for you... I wont put direct picture attachments in this for now, but most of you will probably be familiar with what I mean when I describe it... Notice how the tube like devices/attachments at the bottom of the "Jockey" chair spin along with the chair and actually LINE UP with connecting points at the bases of the 4 Sarcophagi attached to opposite corners of the turntable. Now, do you see how adjacent Sarcophagi LINE up with each other on each diagonal... As if one is an ENTRY channel and one is an EXIT channel? Does that get your little hamsters on their treadmills going yet?? Hahahaha

It's interesting that there are steps up to the centre of the turntable, which I assume is for access to the chair when it's raised. I also assume that the other seat is for flight navigation. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to have to get out of your seat, walk around the turntable, walk up the steps to get into the chair. It doesn't seem practical to get out, over the dashboard to reach the chair either. All that is assuming there is only one pilot or Space Jockey. Maybe it's designed to be crewed by at least two.

@Phil ... I did go down that route about the chair and sargophagi but I couldn't see how they would be able to be used like that ... hence didn't post it ... I always thought (possibly read years ago) that the big tubes were vents for the movement of the chair itself ... we never really got to see the whole front of the chair ... ANYWHERE ... I get what you're sayin fully though ;) ... I posted it may be a RAMP on the right as opposed to stairs? ... Here's a brighter picture of same image ... I think the chamber produces the holographic map we see David standing in.

Hey GEM, Yes I know what you mean. It just seems to me now that they have put a lot of thought into what this thing is now... and I am sure they are going to have to know show it in "action" to some extent so its function will have to be revealed in this story. And to clarify a bit more... We know that the ends of the tubes on the "chair" base curve slightly up at both ends... And we can see that the "channels" at the end of the Sarcophagi curve slightly down... So they DO MATCH UP with the chair swivels to directly face the Sarcophagi. I didnt want to post my full theory yet... because we are still a long way off.

I love this thread. hilarious AND informative, with some great posts. That would suck, to travel across the universe searching for God and instead you meet Daft Punk- lol. Svanya, I love the pics in your posting and yes I believe you are on to something. Whatever creature we are presented with in 'Prometheus,' will no doubt be deigned by Giger himself. I absolutely LOVE Giger's work... the key to what we will see in the movie may very well be coded in his previous artwork. I love it!

OH! and WHAT IF... Imagine a sticky substance that can essentially create a living organism out of ANY material it comes into contact with... just think about it. The derelict we see in Alien could be the result of the SHIP becoming infected with the goo after the crash on LV-426, and it subsequently begins to write the ship's structure into a living organism. The eggs would be a product of the ship trying to make a way to reproduce itself, as any living thing must have in order survive more than one generation. And the original Xenomorph only comes into being after the impregnation of Kane by the facehugger, which mutated again in Kane's stomach, with HIS DNA added to the mix... you get a part-man, part machine organism that is, apparently, extremely pissed off. Or maybe not!

Yep.. Im partly in agreement with that too. At first I was thinking DAVID was there to upset the apple cart, but now I believe that its OLD (and now very deranged) WEYLAND who is calling the shots here.

@Necrofan ... I believe about Vickers too mate ... I don't think that is Shaw on the table with the worm ... I reckon that's Vickers ... because its a different colour to the one in front of Shaws face ... it is Shaw with the (green like) Tenticles though obviously ... so I reckon there's possibly two different scenarios going on here ... we don't actually see Shaw's face on the MedLab scene with the umbilical cord shots ... we don't see Vickers face either ... Now ... I have come to that conclusion by the following ... look at the thighs in the MedLab Squidly scene ... too muscly (as in powerful thighs) compared to Shaws thighs as she's struggling down the corridor ... now look at Vickers while she gets into the escape pod (damn that's an arse right there) ... sorry where were we? ... oh yeah ... see her powerful thighs? ... now go back and check Shaws ... also those hands look a bit big? ... could be the angle shot but they nearly look male ... sh!t don't wanna go there lol ... I know what ya gonna say ... what about the bruising? ... well ... bugger ... I didn't think of that ... but I needed to get that out because that MedLab scene has been bugging me for weeks now ...

The following is a comment I posted in another thread, but just wanted to add it in here as well so that I can keep track on all my points related to this topic... ============================================== One thing I have found disappointing about everyones "theories" that I have seen so far is that all of you totally do not even attempt to touch upon the purpose and function of the CHAIR & TURNTABLE mechanism... which is strange since this piece of Alien tech. is going to figure very heavily in this story. No other theories on what it ACTUALLY DOES and how it ACTUALLY WORKS ??? Food for thought.... - The URN material is loaded into the mechanism as just 1 piece of a specific DNA production/manipulation cycle. - The EGG is a "by-product of nastiness" that is left over when the process has completed.
