And of course the spacesuits ... identical at least ...
Your thoughts ?

I vaguely recalled that Dan O'Bannon mentioned in one of his interviews (Alien DVD/Blu-Ray extras?) that 'Planet of the Vampires' was one of the influences on Alien.
Planet of the Vampire is an Italian science-fiction made by Mario Brava and it conatined a scene whereby the crew of two spacecrafts crash landed on an unexplored planet containing bodies of the crews who died during the crash. The corpses became animated and began to stalk and kill the remaining survivors.
But more specifically the spacesuit in Planet of the Vampire and Prometheus shared similar design concepts. Alien drew in from a lot of old B-Movie science-fictions/horrors and Prometheus in turn is based on some of the idea in Alien that were not fully realised in 1979.
Fiy, Planet of the Vampires is on Youtube. Here's one such link:

Ain't no way anybody gonna tell me the scene where the two main astronauts enter the alien ship/find the remains of a huge pilot in Planet of Vamps (favorite scene, and scarier than the vampires) did not directly influence the little trio meeting the Space Jockey in Alien.

No discussion of space vampire movies is complete, without a mention of "Lifeforce".....and Mathilda May.

@artyoh
I would love to "discuss" Mathilda May. More than once.
But wow, that movie. I had read the book (originally titled just that, "Space Vampires") about three years before the movie came out thinking it was going to be something similar to Bava's flick. But it was actually very somber and philosophical. Scott would have had a field day with it, I think. I mean I know it is a cliche to say the book is better but my gawd this one may be blue ribbon material for making a flick that bears almost not resemblance to its source. I think that was Tobe Hooper's last stab at mainstream success.
All in all, worth it for Mathilda May. But would love to see a closer adaptation of the book.

of course you cant compare the two movies, but they share the same genes for sure! i have nothing against hommages or inspirations, true it is troubling how much the two visuals and themes connects: alien planet/cew infected/"bad vampires" wanting to go back on earth" U shape spaceship, derelict alien ship, giant skelletons...

Guys you have to take something into account i think you are all missing. As far back as 35+ years ago people like Dan O'Bannon were already trying to explain to everyone how saturated mainstream Science Fiction had become.
It is 35+ years later and I can tell you he was right on the money, there isn't an idea in films, movies or television, even ones made by enthusiasts in their own homes that doesn't lend itself to some other idea that came first or was presented before it...it's what they refer to as a "tired genre", one that is "done to death." I disagree with it being "tired" but the point is you can find the influence if you look hard enough or imagine influences if you look hard enough that aren't even true or there at all.
