It’s A Shame Dan O’Bannon Did’nt Live To See PROMETHEUS

It’s a shame that Dan O’Bannon didn’t live to see many of his original ideas for ALIEN…finally coming to life in PROMETHEUS. I wonder if he would’ve been moved to tears again…as he was at the ’79 premiere. What do you think? I miss that old Irishman…the true father of ALIEN. Here are some of his original ideas…as rendered by the great Ron Cobb. Anything look familiar? It's a real shame! I wonder if Ridley ever got his blessing for this movie or atleast mentioned the idea? Has Ronald Shusett seen a early screening of the movie? He is the other father of Alien if you ask me!

I remember having the first Alien book of concept art with Rons work in it, I was only 11 and my Dad snuck me in to see Alien at the local cinema a couple of months later. Rons work inspired me to become an artist and later a teacher of art. From what I've seen so far, trailers I mean, I just hope that we haven't seen all there is to see artistically wise...I'm quite sure we haven't and that there will be some mind blowing images that will hopefully make us all hold our breath just like the first reveal of the space jockey in 1979.

You're welcome Macrobot! We can't forget about that suspender wearin'...quite genuine, "Dark Star" of a man. Whatta visionary! If he never received enough respect in his career...we should show it here. Where else, if not here? ~N

I think the last shot of Prometheus should be a fade to black screen with the words "For Dan..."
I think the last shot of Prometheus should be a fade to black screen with the words "For Dan..."
It'd be neat if after "For Dan" we got a shot of a facehugger leaping at the audience. As in, "For Dan, here's a facehugger!" I know, I know, tacky and cliché, but I'm sure the man would have had a sense of humor about something like that. In all seriousness, I wonder if the movie will have some kind of easter egg send-off for him. An ancillary character named Bannon or O'Bannon, or any number of things.
Fall down seven times, get up eight.

@Jones I think what you suggested there is brilliant and Dan himself would have absolutely LOVED this.

@Neurion In principle, this is such a very important and deeply respectful thread. Well done. @Synthrimonger94 I understand - [ I forget my reference - I'm sorry about it ] - that 20th would have been obliged to advise the creator of the original intellectual property, (or, as in this case, surviving kin, or Estate), what they were planning to do with it, in some form or other. I understand O'Bannon's widow, Diane, was provided a little bit of detail about what was planned and that what she heard met with her approval. And so. There it is.
