MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 1:22 PMIt is time we men spoke up for ourselves. For too long, men have been given shallow roles, needing to be rescued by the smarter, tougher, more pragmatic women. It is unfair, unright, ungood, and unacceptable. Look at how men are portrayed in the original Alien--dim (Brett), lazy (Parker), lazy and dim (Dallas), or even British! (Kane and Ash). This blatant sexism has to stop. It reinforces stereotypes that have damaged men for generations. I fear we will see more dim, lazy and British men in Prometheus. Act now! Tell Scott his old fashion views have no place in 2012 or 2087!

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 1:30 PMThis is intersting. My wife thinks it's hilarious because I get worked up with the constant stereotyping of the imcompetent male in movies, shows, and ESPECIALLY in commercials. It's annoying to those of us who hold our own, and then some, to keep our society moving forward. Ahhh.....gotta stop here lol

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 1:32 PMAnd also Kane being raped! That's outrageous! We (men) are tired of being treated like goods!
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born.
Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

Yes! Commercials are the worst! My personal favorites growing up were ones for board games, usually with the family gathered around . . . the Dad/husband/boyfriend always loses. Like he's just too stupid to keep up with the wife and kids. Too funny.

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 1:55 PMYou're not serious. You can't be. Let me just say this: With the character of Ellen Ripley RS was the very first director in movie-history who established a female action hero. I can't overemphasis this achievement. Before Alien, women in action/horror/sf-movies are just helpless, screaming sex-objects to be saved and protected by the male hero, totally unable to care for themselves let alone being able to make the right decisions in dangerous situations. Sadly, this clichee lives on and on in modern movies and I am SO SICK OF IT, because it has absolutely nothing to do with real life. On the other hand I'm well aware that even in 2012 there are males existing in real life, that still find helpless, screaming sex-objects in movies entertaining.

MemberFacehuggerApr-12-2012 1:58 PMdallas!dallas! - and similar to the discussions about the rating for 'Prometheus', there were grumblings about hearing 'Expendables 2' would be PG-13. After Stallone initially saying the rumors about it being PG-13 were true, there was a tremendous backlash, which caused him to come back and say it will be R. I wonder how 'Prometheus' will hash the rating stuff out.
And I'll leave you with this gem from Stallone about the movie... "this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry".

Lighten up, Francis. lol.
But on a serious note, I would disagree that the cliche (one e) lives on and on. Resident Evil, Underworld, any flick with Angelina Jolie . . . since Alien, the kick-ass woman has become something of a cliche itself. Although, I would say that Hollywood can't seem to make a really good sci-fi/horror/action flick with kick-ass heroines. Actually, the same goes for ones with kick-ass men. At least, we're equal on that count.

You may think Prometheus is numbskull summer popcorn fare but I would disagree. Look deeper.

dallas!dallas!
MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 2:14 PMalteredstate, even funnier (when thinking about expendables) is that Stallone wanted to play Edgar Allen Poe, I mean seriously wanted to write, direct and star in a bio-pic about Poe. And you know what, I would actually pay to see that.

Women should go back to be between a fist and a stove.
Women are like Facehuggers, their only purpose is breeding.
Women can't drive cars, why do I see women drive succesfully cars in movies, escapes me!
Ok, all this was pure sarcasm, and my views are almost exactly the opposite.
But I hope all you others were being sarcastic too.
Cheers

MemberOvomorphApr-12-2012 5:03 PMYou scared me there for a second Ghorgul.....but seriously, can't we just come to a point where people accept that there are capable members of both sexes just as htere are complete and total morons of both sexes and...guess what....shit happens and sometimes guys look stupid, sometimes women look stupid in film because THOSE CHARACTERS HAPPEN TO BE THAT WAY.......who cares? I mean, really...Sure, 'Alien' tore down that barrier for women to an extent, so there it is...whatever happens is whatever happens......I realized a long time ago that I should be respecting an individual for who they are rather than the nature of the genitalia, skin color, etc., etc. etc. It isn't that hard to just let things be....it really isn't....
