MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 2:21 AMI was just sitting here thinking, even intellectual giants haven't had even a fraction of the fictional success of the films anchorman, Peter Weyland. Now just think about it, Days after his 14th birthday, Peter Weyland is granted a Method Patent for a synthetic trachea constructed entirely of synthetically-engineered stem cells. It is his 12th registered patent to date.
Eleven years later,Weyland Industries launches first industrialized space mission to install solar panels that align and move in Earth’s orbital plane but at an axial tilt, imitating a perpetual summer solstice. The renewable energy gathered in the months following this expedition made Peter Weyland his first billion
Once again a year later,Using a precursor to the atmospheric processor of his own invention, Peter Weyland is able to generate a localized synthetic atmosphere above the polar ice cap, effectively ending global warming.
Between 2017 Using capital from his 2015 success, Weyland acquires copyrights to technology developed by NASA’s innovative but poorly funded Project Prometheus. With Weyland’s significantly augmented funding for the project, JIMO became a reality and proves the existence of simple life in Europa’s ocean. Then in 2023 a cure for cancer using some sort of extraterrestrial components, which I will bet you came from those SIMPLE life forms in Europa's ocean.
Something about it just doesn't seem natural, Perhaps Weyland is the real DNA somehow channeling intellectual prowess akin to the Engineers incalculable abilities in order to get OUT there. Like some kind of Alien Salmon that has to return home to spawn no matter the cost. Weyland orchestrates the entire evolution of a PLANET to enable the events of this film. Something is going on.......Hmmmm.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 2:35 AMVery interesting post. Maybe Weyland found something on earth at a very young age that were a set of the Engineers engineering designs and has profitted from them over the course of his lifetime! Or maybe you are onto something. What if he is an Engineer himself and has been hiding on earth waiting for his opportunity to return to Z2R to exact his revenge for some reason.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 2:38 AM@Chimera, exactly what I was thinking. Just way too many domino's falling for one man. Perhaps it's that genetic memory phenomenon triggered by some sort of event. He'll turn out to be descended from one of those Giant Blue men in the pictograms, and carvings.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 2:41 AMMakes me think of my earlier post about a Prometheus sequel leading into a something akin to "Forbidden Planet."

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 2:43 AMDo you remember how the machine on Altair in Forbidden Planet made Morbius super intellegent??

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 3:02 AMGhost Solitaire, that's an absolutely fascinating concept.
I hope for a really subversive reveal like this. The 'genetic memory'
thing is radical.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 3:02 AMYes, that movie had a charm, and innocence that cannot be duplicated, at the same time it was sinister, and forboding. I sent you a PM, let me know what you think.

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 3:28 AM@Ghost Solitare, It closely resembles the story of the mysterious character of Samir Duran of Starcraft Brood War (a Xel'Naga infiltrated?). Very interesting post and extraterrestrial life simply reminds me of 2010: Odyssey Two.
By the way @Chimera "The forbidden planet" would be a great source of inspiration for a sequel to Prometheus, In fact, quite a classic as "first spaceship on venus" or "Planet of the Vampires" or the classic novel "The Voyage of the Space Beagle".

MemberOvomorphApr-14-2012 6:14 AMIt's all about Weyland. Think about it...the Nostromo just happens to stumble upon the derelict's distress signal, not a coincidence they were in that region of space. The fact WY didn't know exactly where the derelict was (and send a mission directly there) is a clue to events that may be explained in this film.
Secondly, why does WY want to terraform LV 426 (Aliens) knowing the xenomorphs are there? What possible benefit is there in putting a live able atmosphere on a planet where your unlikely to survive?
And if Peter Weyland is dead, long before the events of Alien and Aliens who is still pulling the strings for the corporation, who knows something that no one else does? I'm with Ghost Solitaire on this, Weyland the man is not human, or certainly the Prometheus elect in this story. He is obsessed with this region of space for a reason, maybe returning, and I'm not sure he's entirely benevolent towards who he finds there
