Why destroy Earth? Therebe speculation here...

I don't get the impression the Engineer is scared in the slightest. If indeed that's whats running this whole show, it's something they were doing for EONs before we showed up and laid our cards on the table. Never play poker with an opponent that invented the game, you'll only find out that the rules have changed. To more directly address your question, it's not supported yet by what we've seen, but what the Engineer does best is alter/manipulate. I should clarrify and say that his technology does that. By whatever means neccessary, I think the Prometheus survivors are thinking that whatever has been happening to them will be echoed on a planetary scale back home if that ship reaches Earth.

It's only going to get loopy from here on in kids, buckle up for a nasty ride.

Food for thought... What if we HUMANS ONLY exist on Earth and virtually no other place throughout the entire Universe, and this secret has somehow been kept from the "Gods" or Engineers until we literally show up one day and they realize that a part of their actual "essence" has been stolen from them in order to create us. The "essense" of the Blue Meanies was taken by their servants or slaves, the "Jockeys" who "moulded us from clay" so to speak... so the Jockey is the literal "PROMETHEUS" of this story... we humans are just that... HUMANS... and the Engineers are the "GODS".

I think they have a fair point. But everything would be cool if the ship didnt embark on a couse with Earth to begin with! If they engineered us in the first place; why then try and destroy us. Looking forward to.the answer On another note, I always thought that RS was being emotive when he said this film would share the same DNA with Alien, ie it would simply be in the same universe and explain the SJ for example, but not be a prequel as such. That was my first impressuon at least, but it looks more and more likely he has been quite literal all along?

@ JP - Maybe they created us for slave purposes...or for science purposes. We humans create various lifeforms and then destroy it without thought all the time. Just because they have created us(if they have), doesnt mean they have to care about us. Im really looking forward to finding out too.

The space jockeys/engineers are our creation in the first place.I think Pw visited the planet prior to the prometheus armed with a bit of nanotech,beotech and some synthetics as per the "Ted" trailer. Either Pw dies or the synthetics take control. The large head is their God/Creators- Us! In the sense that we created synthetics i think that they have now evolved so much and and trying to create their own creations-the xeno morphs. They dont see what they are doing as wrong and are trying to get back to Earth to where their beginnings are, but if they do will ultimitaley lead to our destruction.

My belief is that it was Punishment for Theft ! The SJ Race Were going along all fine and dandy with their universal plans and seeding the galaxy and even considering NOT TERRA-FORMING EARTH until we stuck our noses where they did not belong, and went even further and took something{s} that did not belong to us!

I really hope that Terra forming has nothing to do with it as that was part of the plot for "Aliens". I mean thats what all these families were doing-trying to make the planet habitable. By the sounds of it,they werent very good at it as no planet in the "Alien" series as far as i was aware was habitable. Again, i dont think these Sj's/Engineers are nothing more than our own creation- Just that they are Synthetics which we have created and have evolved so much---Certainly no Gods!

An early draft script rumor had the Jockeys at first delighted that we had progressed as far as we had as we were the first to find them. They gave us a tech gift and sent us home. That was not enough and someone stole the terra forming tech and set the bad chain of events into motion.

Might add that i dont thibk SJs and engineers necessarily need to be seperate species but the rationale and motive for going to Earth to wipe us out seems bang on. Still dont understand why it failed. Only one SJ? The shot of the humanoid with the saucer leaving is interesting. Were humans created or engineered by him at this point? Ws he left there as punishment, hence the warning or pictograms to us from him? Bring it on boys, stoked we might have an epic on our hands here!

WoW, @ those that say the SJ's are OUR creation... I respectfully say THAT HAS TO BE COMPLETE B.S. If that were the case we would have the technology the Space Jockeys do ourselves. We would have our own little Derelict Machine and Star Map and "ampules" ...lmfao...somewhere on earth.

I was thinking about the whole stole their technology thing......sounds plausible....if they were like omnipotent ..perhaps they deem having technology to advanced for us like dangerous for evolution..of the universe...a bit like the prime directive in star trek. And maybe they've had to punish before..think sodom and gammora...i know daft isn't it.

I've been trying to reconcile the ( apparent ) end of this movie, with the fact that we're still here afterwards. Unless the pilot of the ship is really stupid and KIA when it stops rolling ( not buying that ) why doesn't it just send out a transmission to any other living SJs that it's time to drop the proverbial bio-bomb on our watery abode? Unless there's only one SJ left lurking about, and the ship actually can't take off again.......or what's left of the crew, offs it.....but then, that would dead-end the entire story-line. Something isn't adding up.

Spartacus, Only my opinion mind but does Peter Weyland not say in the "Ted" trailer that "We are the Gods now"? I think that if the Sjs do get back to Earth with this technology it will be the End as this technology would lead to Imortality by means of a Synthetic race. The xeno morphs we see in "Alien" i think will also turn out to be our creation (created by "Prometheus") as a means to wipe out the Sjs. Are you saying that it is too far fetched..lol that Pw arrives on LV426 in say 2050 with a few Synthetics armed with nanotech a bit of biotech and helps create these Sjs?? Or These Sjs are really Gods going about with a large human head in there Space ship Tera forming planets? and by all accounts are not very good at it. Just my opinion mind.

the reason I do not think this is possible {what you just wrote up there}is that I am positive Scott has stated many times and I have it in print as well, that the Xenomorphs were/are a Weapon of the SJ's design, the idea being the eggs are nothing more than deliberate Cargo like BOMBS to be used in Terra-Forming {also that the Xenos were derivative of them}and even later...potentially dropped on Earth. But specifically that the Xeno was another races creation and who's intended primary purpose was for use as Weapon!

with regard to what you wrote above Ridley Scott has stated for the record many many many times that his take is that the SJ race is using the Eggs primarily as a Terra-forming Weapon. That they are little less than cargo-Like Bombs intended to use their contents, the genetic code of the xenomorph, primarily as a type of WEAPON.
